Week 10 Results

Cornish Tinners 95 @ 99 X-Men
Putney Gooners 101 @ 98 Bookhouse Boys
Fulchester Fish 92 @ 143 Forest Tigers
Luck Skywalker 105 @ 96 Chingford Gingers
Bruschii 54s 82 @ 73 Yorkshire Dragons
Barry Crockers 111 @ 108 Get It Right Next Time

Forest Tigers with a stonking score this week - and even including a zero point scorer! Coupled with their seasons-best equalling score of 133 points last week, I'm guessing that a two week total of 276 is by some distance a record for this league.

Week 11 Fixtures

Cornish Tinners (6-4) @ Luck Skywalker (7-3)
Forest Tigers (5-5) @ Putney Gooners (7-3)
X-Men (4-6) @ Barry Crockers (3-7)
Fulchester Fish (6-4) @ Bruschi 54s (7-3)
Yorkshire Dragons (1-9) @ Chingford Gingers (6-4)
Bookhouse Boys (4-6) @ Get It Right Next Time (4-6)

Week 12 Results

Forest Tigers 143 @ 99 Cornish Tinners
Bruschi 54s 107 @ 86 Barry Crockers
Chingford Gingers 81 @ 104 Bookhouse Boys
X-Men 103 @ 72 Fulchester Fish
Putney Gooners 88 @ 80 Get It Right Next Time
Luck Skywalker 81 @ 110 Yorkshire Dragons

Forest Tigers still crushing it...

Week 13 Fixtures

Cornish Tinners (6-6) @ Bruschi 54s (9-3)
Barry Crockers (3-9) @ Forest Tigers (7-5)
Bookhouse Boys (5-7) @ X-Men (6-6)
Fulchester Fish (6-6) @ Chingford Gingers (7-5)
Get It Right Next Time (5-7) @ Luck Skywalker (8-4)
Yorkshire Dragons (2-10) @ Putney Gooners (8-4)

With only 2 weeks to go, time for a little play-off scenario discussion.

Sanders Division
Bruschi 54s in prime position to win the division, needing just one more win - and even two losses might be OK depending on Forest Tigers results. Still not technically qualified yet even for the wildcard - in fact, with 2 games to go I believe that no-one has cemented a play-off place yet.
Forest Tigers - could do with 2 wins in the last two games - 1-1 would leave them on 8-6 and relying on either of the two heavyweights in the Brown Division to lose out from here.
Cornish Tinners - technically still in with a shot at the wildcard, but an awful lot of results are going to have to go their way. (Winning both games with big scores, Tigers probably losing both games (due to a massive difference in points scored, which is the first tie-breaker), and either Luck Skywalker and Putney Gooners losing both).
Barry Crockers - done for the year, sadly.

Payton Division
It's perfectly possible for all 4 teams in this division to finish at 7-7 so I'll just leave it at "still all to play for"! A faint chance of a wildcard for whoever finishes 2nd.

Brown Division
Luck Skywalker and Putney Gooners neck and neck on 8-4 - and they play each other in the last game of the season. The loser of these two will still be in good position to claim the wildcard.
Get It Right Next Time and Yorkshire Dragons - out of contention this year.

A reminder that the tiebreaker is Total Points Scored - Fulchester Fish hold a decided advantage in the Payton Division, a bit too close to call in the other two. (Although I note that Get It Right Next Time have totalled 1203 points, only 7 off the leader, yet somehow find themselves with a 5-7 record)

Finally, thanks to all teams so far for setting legal line-ups throughout all the bye-weeks - and the traditional reminder to those teams who haven't qualified that next year's draft position depends on this year's table, so there's still something to play for.

Week 13 Results

Cornish Tinners 125 @ 72 Bruschi 54s
Barry Crockers 88 @ 79 Forest Tigers
Bookhouse Boys 62 @ 99 X-Men
Fulchester Fish 65 @ 95 Chingford Gingers
Get It Right Next Time 87 @ 77 Luck Skywalker
Yorkshire Dragons 81 @ 88 Putney Gooners

Week 14 Fixtures

Barry Crockers (4-9) @ Cornish Tinners (7-6)
Forest Tigers (7-6) @ Bruschi 54s (9-3)
Fulchester Fish (6-7) @ Bookhouse Boys (5-8)
Chingford Gingers (8-5) @ X-Men (7-6)
Yorkshire Dragons (2-11) @ Get It Right Next Time (6-7)
Putney Gooners (9-4) @ Luck Skywalker (8-5)

Playoff scenarios.

Sanders Division - Bruschi 54s confirmed as division champions, Forest Tigers and Cornish Tinners in the mix for the wildcard - both need a win. Barry Crockers eliminated.

Payton Division - a win for Chingford Gingers would give them the division, but a loss and they might not even make the wildcard spot. X-Men need a win to join the potential logjam of the 8-6 wildcard. Fulchester Fish and Bookhouse Boys done for the year.

Brown Division - Putney Gooners have qualified for post-season - a win gives them the division title, but a loss still guarantees the wildcard. A Luck Skywalker win, and they will also be guaranteed to play weeks 15 and 16, but a loss and they will also finish at 8-6 and may be at the mercy of Total Points Scored tiebreaker. Get It Right Next Time and Yorkshire Dragons are out of it.

For reference, the total points scored at present for all interested teams are:
Forest Tigers 1233
Cornish Tinners 1191
Chingford Gingers 1170
X-Men 1204
Luck Skywalker 1216

If we get to the situation where we need a 2nd tiebreaker, the next is head-to-head records, then inter-division records, then points against.

And a final commiserating note to Get It Right Next Time who have now outscored every other team on their way to a losing record...

Update to week 14 games..

Bruschi 54s confirmed as Sanders Division champs.
Luck Skywalkers win (they already lead by 8 points with 2 still to play, and the opponents Putney Gooners are all played out) and will take the Brown Division on total points scored, with the Putney Gooners grabbing the wildcard spot.
X-Men needed to beat the Chingford Gingers by 34 points to leapfrog them to the top of the Payton Division - that's not going to happen, it's only a 15 point margin at the moment, with two of the Gingers Team still left to play.

The match-ups are still up in the air though.

Edit - bit in italics is wrong (summary cock-up due to commissioner incompetence  )

Three teams through - X-Men were 34 points ahead of Chingford Gingers, not 34 points behind - so a win will give them the division title. Gingers need 15 or 16 points from Dalvin Cook tonight to win the match (15 would mean a tie and it would then depend on bench scores - and the Gingers have no fewer than 3 players tonight on the bench).

But I’m the one who’s 34 points ahead in total points scored so don’t I qualify if I win the match up? Or am I missing something?

There’s 15 points in it...and Dalvin Cook still to play. :o

Week 14 Results

Barry Crockers 89 @ 116 Cornish Tinners
Forest Tigers 89 @ 108 Bruschi 54s
Fulchester Fish 71 @ 73 Bookhouse Boys
Chingford Gingers 92 @ 94 X-Men
Yorkshire Dragons 81 @ 83 Get It Right Next Time
Putney Gooners 53 @ 77 Luck Skywalker

X-Men won their winner-takes-all matchup, and in doing so, knock previous division leaders Chingford Gingers out of the playoffs completely (and sorry again Stuart for the error in the previous summary). Dalvin Cook nearly brought it home for the Gingers but fell 3 points short. Luck Skywalkers win means they end up division winners, with Putney Gooners taking the wildcard spot.

Week 1 Playoff Fixtures

X-Men @ Luck Skywalker

Consolation ladder (the traditional reminder that winning these games moves you up the draft order for next year)

Both semi-finals look done and dusted without the need for any input from MNF games - Putney Gooners, having battled their way into the playoffs unaccountably left an RB slot empty, with Derrick Henry's 29 points sitting wasted on the bench. Fortunately for their peace of mind, the rest of the team performed so poorly that it didn't make a difference. Likewise, X-Men have only scraped 30 points together from the 6 players who've been involved so far - an unlikely but technically possible 57 points required from Mark Ingram, DJ Moore and Wil Lutz tonight.

Wow - the final's finished at 100-100 . I'll avoid any write-ups for the moment just in case there's a score correction, but as it stands, Bruschi 54s will take the title on better bench score (and incidentally, a mighty fine bench score it was as well :)).

Forgot Rivers playing early. Hollow victory, if I win. Gurley would of been a massive difference, even with Foles off the bench, like he should of been.

OK, stat corrections are in, and none that make any difference to our scores, so...

it's congratulations to this year's champ, Mark Gillespie's Bruschi 54s - the founder of this league makes it to the top spot! The narrowest of victories, scores level at 100 with the unlucky Luck Skywalker, who would surely have won but for Todd Gurley's last minute no-show.

Week 16 results

Re: FISO NFL ESPN Season 12

Post by Rick Spangle »

A little summary of season 12.

1st. Bruschi 54s - the founding father is the champ! 4-3 after the first 7 weeks meant that Mark was always in a handy position, and then 5 successive wins shot him to the Divisional Championship, 1st team through to the playoffs, and the number 1 seed. A crushing win over Putney Gooners in the semi, and then that narrowest of victories in the championship game.
Just an interesting side note - although the final was as close as it could be, when the two teams met in week 9, it resulted in the biggest blow-out of the year, a 90 point win for the 54s.

2nd. Luck Skywalker - 9th in Marc's debut season last year, up to 2nd spot and within a whisker of the championship this time around. In a comfortable position for most of the year, by the end of week 11 they were standing at 8-3 and almost certainly already in the playoffs. Two losses in the next two weeks allowed the similarly powerful Putney Gooners to make things a little more interesting. Like the 54s, an equally one-sided semi in their favour, but Todd Gurley, who had such a big hand in getting Marc to the playoffs was an unfortunate no-show in the game that mattered. Great season Marc, though!

3rd. Putney Gooners - after losing a high-scoring game in week 1, Olly went on a 5 game win streak as he and Marc's "Luck Skywalker" took early charge of the Brown Division. A week 14 loss took the divisional title off the Gooners, but like Skywalker, post-season qualification was looking good some way out. A bit of a disaster in the semi though, Gooners mustering all of 38 points, the second worst score of the year behind (ahead?) of the aforementioned week 9 disaster for Luck Skywalker.

4th. X-Men - starting a season 0-4 and reaching the playoffs is some feat - when 5 weeks later you're still only 3-6 it becomes even more impressive. Stuart reeled off 5 successive wins to the end of the regular season to finish 8-6 and nick the Payton division title off the Chingford Gingers. Unfortunately that's where the magic ended as the X-Men stumbled badly in the post-season. Reaching playoffs is never a bad season though.

5th. Chingford Gingers - Nick's squad, although just missing the playoffs, won both consolation ladder games to give them the number 1 draft pick next year. It was nearly so much more though - leading the division and needing a win over the X-Men (even a loss might have been ok depending on other results) in the final regular season game to qualify for post-season, they fell to a soul-destroying 2 point defeat and out of the playoff picture completely.

6th. Forest Tigers - last year's cellar-dwellers, this year mid-table respectability - a streaky season for Philip beginning with two wins, then a run of five defeats followed by a run of five victories. Sanders division champs Bruschi 54s were always just a little bit out of sight however, even before the Tigers finished with another two straight losses. I should point out that between weeks 9-12, the Tigers managed the top season score of 143 - twice!- and when you add in the other two weeks totals of 133 and a relatively pedestrian 104, the four week total of 523 is probably some kind of record.

Just interrupting these summaries, I was becoming aware that a lot of teams had done better than last year - I've just checked last year's history and amazingly these 6 teams who finished in the top half are the same 6 teams who finished in the bottom half last year  - I think it's called parity?

7th. Fulchester Fish - 6-3 after 9 weeks looked promising for Andy's team - 5 winless weeks later, that had turned into 6-8 and a blank season for the Fish. Two wins in the consolation ladder at least moved them up the draft order for next year.

8th. Cornish Tinners - last year's champs unable to defend the crown as Stuart's team also made it to 6-3 after 9 weeks, but were unable to finish the season off. Technically they were still in with a shout entering week 13 off playoffs, involving them getting 2 wins and lots of other results going their way - Tinners did their bit with the required two wins but other teams didn't co-operate. Two losses in the two consolation ladder games dropped them down the draft order a bit.

9th. Get It Right Next Time - never really in contention this season, bumping along at or just under .500 which was never going to be good enough in a division containing both Luck Skywalker and Putney Gooners. Two wins in the last two regular season games at least put Alan's team with a non-losing record, finishing at 7-7. Points scoring didn't seem to be the problem as they finished 2nd highest scorers of the season - just an unfortunate combination of opponents and close games giving them more losses than they might have deserved.

10th. Yorkshire Dragons - sadly a rather miserable year for Dean, who never really got out of the blocks, starting with 6 straight losses, and only notching up two wins through the season.
At least the Dragons improved their draft position a little bit for next year with the consolation ladder results.

11th. Barry Crockers - like the Yorkshire Dragons, Scott's season never got started, beginning with a run of 5 defeats in the opening 5 games. X-Men managed to rouse themselves after an almost-as-disastrous start to make the playoffs, but Barry Crockers had the added handicap of being in the same division as heavyweights Bruschi 54s so there was never really a chance to claw back the damage.

12th. Bookhouse Boys - runners-up last year, wooden-spoonists this time. Phil started the year reasonably promisingly, standing at 4-2 after 6 weeks, then the wheels fell off with five defeats in a row. By the time the next win came around, both Luck Skywalker and Putney Gooners were out of sight. Two losses in the consolation ladder dropped the Bookhouse Boys to the bottom of the pile.

PS - never too early to think about tweaking rules - I would propose next year reducing the bench by one spot as we now have an IR slot - and looking again at ways to find a winner of tied games. I've never been a fan of total bench points - I for example would prefer the win to go to the team who had the best individual performer of the week's matchup - but that's for another day, just putting it down here to remind me.

Thanks for another great season everyone - it has always been a straightforward league that is highly competitive but fair (in the sense that everyone competes in every game, no matter if they are not going to qualify for the play-offs).

I had a very poor draft and some bad luck at the start of the season with injuries (but that happens to everyone) and key gaps on my roster. I thought I was done and dusted after four weeks. I managed to scrabble together a few waiver wire pick ups and gradually plugged some of the holes. The quality was paper thin though and I never had any real confidence of getting through into the play-offs, so 4th was a lot better than I hoped for.

Very competitive as always - it was rare to be able to pick up obvious players on waivers.

One suggestion for next year - it would be good to be consistent about the number of keepers - I would prefer that it be the same for everyone rather than a choice, but perhaps that ship has already sailed. If not, my preference would be just the 1 - in order to provide a bigger pool in the draft.

If that isn't a runner then we need to make it very clear at a relatively early stage how many and who are being nominated as keepers. One of the main reasons for my poor draft was that I hadn't kept track of who was taken at the start, so my initial plans for drafting went out of the window because the draft jumped all over the place with some people not entering until Round 3 but others staring in Round 1...my fault I know but it was difficult to identify who had chosen which keepers because it wasn't confirmed until the last minute...

Hi Stuart, thanks for posting.
Regarding keepers, I think that ship has sailed - it was the majority opinion only last year, so we'd better stick with it. Point taken regarding the keeper deadline though - I think that's a great idea, so from next year the keepers will have to be fixed at least a full week before the draft takes place to give people more time to reassess their draft strategy.
