Mrs Spiny has just randomly picked between the letters F and A and chosen A which means Alchemist.

She remains rather mystified. :P

Ok Things are very simple now.

A result no worse than a 6 point reverse for Atlanta, and Reds363 will hold on.
A result better than a 23 point win for New England and Forest Fan will steal it.

Maldini will finish second, unless its somewhere between the above two scenarios (he has the best % age so wins on any tie) - unless New England win by 88 or more, in which case Filmstar40 would steal 2nd........... hang on, wrong game!

in the other thing, Reds363 vs Alchemist, Superbowl Points difference + Touch Downs - I will post mine to Spencer4.

I'm quite looking forward to this.

Hoping the Falcons Offensive plays as it has been, as they are a thing of sporting beauty (which is why I like sport).

My guess is that one QB\Offence cracks, and the other side wins by 15+ in the 1st half and sits on it.

Apparently these two Franchises only play every 3-4 years. How does that work?

Well, you play each team in your own division home and away which leaves 10 other regular season games for each team. Divisions are paired on a rotating basis season by season and I think you just play the teams from one division in the opposite conference each year, not sure if the rotation is fixed but it means teams from opposite conferences will only meet every four years on average.

Ah, I thought there was some sort of equalizing ranking thing going on with top teams playing other top teams.... (How Socialist\protectionist of me, lol.)

I think there's an element of that as well, where say teams who won their division last season play other division winners - maybe only 2 or 3 games though and probably within same conference.

In any case, you don't play an individual team from the other conference very often!

Many years ago when I was more into this, I thought that was how it worked ie a Ranking thang to help the pants Francises win a few matches by playing each other...

Definitely an added twist (the not having played each other for yonks), which allegedly throws the Pats a favour due their Headcoach, but I hope Ryan buzzes and they win in a blaze of throwing amidst the odd run to keep the Pats confused.

1978–1994 NFL scheduling formula
The scheduling formula before 1995 was very similar, except in a modified format to fit not having fully balanced divisions. During these years, teams in five-team divisions who didn't finish last would not normally face a 5th place team outside their division, whether or not those teams were intraconference. There was a special so-called "last place" or "fifth-place" schedule for teams who finished in last place in a five-team division. In addition to their division games, a team who finished in last place in the previous season would also primarily play the other teams who finished in last place in their respective divisions

So the shit teams used to get more of a scheduling advantage (though only really in the 5 team divisions?) :?

Obviously the draft and salary cap etc. are meant to even things up - 12 of the 16 NFC franchises have made a Super Bowl since 2000 (remarkably, Dallas and Washington are among the four who haven't). The AFC has seen far fewer teams make it, largely due to the consistent presence of the Patriots (and when it hasn't been them, it's usually been the Steelers or whoever Peyton Manning played for at the time). That and some consistently failing franchises like Cleveland, Jacksonville and (until recently) Oakland, which have tended to narrow the AFC field from the start.

Yeah, I knew there as something to favour the rubbish ones ie help them get a win or two.

I've never liked the All American Cowboys, even before their spanking new Stadium etc, so that is good - Washington used to be doddie do hot with Riggins et al.

What happened to the next great big thang QB of the last (?) Superbowl? (Eagles bod?)

Apologies for modern day ignorance.
