FISO NFL Game - Year 3

Post by Alchemist »

It Appear AKNel is no longer actively posting - But this was a great game so (providing nobody objects)......

It's back for a 3rd year, the NFL game with no name game

Relive last two years epic finales here - and brush up on how to play the game...

new-nfl-season-fiso-game-just-for-fun-t105795.html

viewtopic.php?f=77&t=112635&start=270

The season kicks off on Thurs Sept 10th with defending Superbowl Champions New England Patriots playing host to the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Here's what you have to do. Pick one team each week to win and the winning margin will be your points score for the week. However you can only pick each team once.

Anyone who fails to make a weekly entry (ie before LO of the final game of the week, will be score -20pts or the the score associated with the biggest points differential of the game week (irrespective of that team being a valid pick) which ever is the most negative.

Selections must be made before the KO of the selected Game each week

If your team loses, the margin of defeat will be subtracted from your overall score.

As an added twist you will need to save the better teams for the playoffs. If you are unable to select a team during the playoffs you will be penalised either 30 points or the biggest losing margin of the week +5 points (whichever is greater) for each week .

Please feel free to reserve your entry below, however entry will be confirmed by week one selections. Entry in weeks 2 and beyond will carry a penalty of the loss of the highest defeated team in terms of points, and the opportunity to pick the highest scoring team of week 1 (etc etc)...

Excellent, I was going to set this up, but more than happy to have someone else put in the leg-work.

Not sure about that Thursday night rule, can't see any advantage in waiting until Sunday midday at least.

Its only a minor loop hole, but...

Should you not pick, and Atlanta (say) play Thursday and romp home with a huge differential - you need not pick, as that is your alphabetical default...

Will drop it if it is seen as a major put off.......

Agreed, minus 30 even. You don't pick, you should suffer, not get a jammy alphabetical win

I like the 20points or highest losing margin if above 20 rule. Picks before midday Sunday rather than Thursday would help too (obviously, you wouldn't be able to select the Thursday night games and playoffs would be midday Saturday)

If it's ok, I'll play this year. Not around FISO much these days but fondly remember this as one of my better creations

Also think you should be penalised by losing a future selection or some will get to the latter stages with more options.

If being harsh, the highest margin winners not previously selected. If lenient the lowest margin winners not previously selected.

OK, I'm off now, see you next week

Glad to have you back AK.

I did think that too - what are other peoples thoughts?

I'd like to think nobody would be that devious, after all its not as thought this is a web-based forum frequented by people who specialize in maximizing differentials and marginal gains.

Another option could be that you have to forfeit the equivalent number of teams that you have left come post season as you have had missing entries...

Considering there is a -30 (I think) penalty for not having a team in the final rounds, losing the same score for a missed week would make sense.

Agree, it would be pointless (!) to 'gain' those 30 points by having an extra team later on so losing one team would work, but which team?

How about this...

If you miss a week, you lose 30 points and lose the chance to select the most popular pick of that particular week (or if ties - alphabetically).

Therefore you are probably only losing the same team that most have used that week, and instead of gaining x points you are losing 30 and the same team.

Therefore you are probably only losing the same team that most have used that week, and instead of gaining x points you are losing 30 and the same team.

I see where your coming from, but would cause problems, as a) we are few so the populous pick could be impossible if we all pick different, or all pick team the missing person has already used... b) would blow my tiny mind.

The more I think about my option, the more I like it. It means the person has to hold back one more team that reaches the play-off per round they miss (granted they may have opted not to use that team anyway), else they will get double bubble - (anybody missing multiple rounds is going to struggle) - holding back 7 instead of 6 "play-off" teams is not that much of a handicap but is enough to be thinking about. Last year we had between 5-9 left each....
