Re: egg world cup game?
Ok peeps, Ive thrown together a team this morning, adhering to Darbyands request for a 442 with Strikers from Groups A-D. In egg Cup stylee, Ill explain my reasoning.
GK: Muslera
Fernando Muslera was well on-track to becoming one of the world's top-five goalkeepers while at Lazio, before his move to Galatasaray knocked him off the radar of most football observers. Muslera has been a penalty-saver throughout his career. On his first start for Lazio, Muslera saved a penalty from Antonio Cassano, which helped him earn more playing time for Lazio. Muslera's prominence as goalkeeper really comes from his international performances however. At the 2010 World Cup, Muslera's first international competition, he kept a clean sheet in all three of Uruguay's group games, before saving two penalties in the shootout with Ghana to qualify Uruguay for the semi-finals of the tournament. In his next tournament, Copa America 2011, Muslera once again demonstrated his prowess as a goalkeeper with a master class against Argentina, topped off with a save against Carlos Tevez in the penalty shootout to win the game for Uruguay.
DF Zhirkov
The Russians are hard to break down at the best of times and I think they are good value for their ability. With Fabio Capello at the helm they are sure to be as organised as possible. Zhirkov is a defender who plays in midfield and has a wicked shot.
DF F Rodriguez
Mexico's no 2 comes in primarily as a make weight, a budget pick to free up cash for better players elsewhere - but lets not forget this WC is in South America - The Mexicans have plenty of experience and are well acclimatised. Is there a better budget pick? In over 20% of teams so far, as THE most popular defender - I doubt it.
DF Vermaelen
A gamble possibly, based in this seasons performances for Arsenal the big Belgian has goals galore in him. In fact, quality is emerging all over the young Belgian team, only experience perhaps stands in the way of an outstanding tournament.
DF Rojo
I fancy Brazil and Argentina as favourites for this WC. An Argentina defender at a good price is for me, a lock & leave player freeing up transfers to rotate the strikers.
MF OSCAR
The creative hub of the Brazilian team who, along with Neymar should be at the centre of everything creative. And that group...
MF Muller
Got to have a German. And with only Klose as a recognised striker I fancy Muller & Podolski to be playing as 2nd strikers. Miller, however, is listed as a midfielder. And that means points.
MF Dempsey
Bo-Kyung or Ruiz were the only names cheaper than Dempsey I paid much heed too. Strictly a group game man, everything the USA do will funnel through Clint. I mean, I wouldnt give the ball to Jozy before Clint - would you? Almost certainly playing as a 2nd striker Clint has the potential to reap a few goals in the group stages and is a safe pick until better bargains emerge.
MF Rakitic
Sevilla's Captain has come into his own this year, free scoring for club and Country and under Niko Kovac the Croats are looking much more organised than under Štimac - and are yet to lose under the new manager. A replacement of this quality for the money will be hard to find, and I fancy another key player will have to be sacrificed for mediocrity to find the extra 1m plus needed to upgrade him.
STR NEYMAR
Say no more. This is Neymars Brazil, in Brazil. The stage is set.
STR Sanchez
The key man in the South American side that took England apart. Fingers crossed Vidal is fit and Chile will look a force to be reckoned with. I fancied Suarez from grup D to begin, but at nearly 1m less Sanchez allowed more options elsewhere.
So there it is
................Muslera
Zhirkov Rodriguez Vermaelen Rojo
Oscar Muller Dempsey Rakitic
..........Neymar Sanchez
Go for it

OK we are live. All the details are in the first post...first time I've done this for a FISO league so if any old hands wouldn't mind giving it a once-over for anything I might have missed I'd appreciate it.
Thanks to happyhoppy whose rules I have copied chapter and verse from the 2010 comp.

Armero COL 2.9M
Yepes COL 3.3M
Vidal CHI 4.4M
Okazaki 3.2M
Total 48.4M
Everything might well go through Dempsey for the USA, but all of the square root of F@@k all is still f@@k all - I much prefer Okazaki as a midfield enabler for.2M less.
I agree that a German needs to appear somewhere, but i would rather wait till after the Dutch game to choose which 1.Vidal is the main man for Chile, costs 1.2M less and starts with a much friendlier fixture v Australia.
Rodriguez may well be selected by 20%, but i'm much more confident in Colombia's ability to keep clean sheets and qualify for the last 16 than Mexico. Amero well worth the extra .6M to me.
I don't really want to start with anyone who's opening fixture is v Brazil, plus i want to go 5-3-2, so a second colombian defender for me saving another .8M
