Yet another EPL prediction game (but different)

Post by bspittles »

Anyone interested in a prediction game, but with a twist? All you need to do is predict the score for each game that your team plays.

Each EPL team will be represented by a FISO member (hopefully), so each time your team plays, you'll be trying to out-predict your opponent. You score goals dependent on how accurate your prediction, and whoever scores the most points picks up three points, a draw being worth one point.

Easy-peasy.

Here's what you need to do:

1) Put your name down against the team you support. Sorry, only one FISO member per team. If you support a non-EPL team (or your team is already taken), add your name to the waiting list at the bottom and any untaken teams can be allocated to you.

2) When all teams are supported, send me a PM with the predictions of your teams results for the entire season. This can be in any format, but I would prefer:
Arsenal (h) 2-2
Arsenal (a) 3-1
etc
If you don't specify exactly the score for away games, it will be assumed the first score will be for the home team (so in the above example, you are predicting your team will draw at home but lose away against Arsenal).

3) Before each game, the supporter of the home team can predict a different score to the one sent at the start of the season if they wish. This gives the home team a slight advantage. Deadlines for these amendments are 12 noon on a Friday for Saturday/Sunday/Monday games, and 12 noon on the day of the game for any midweek games. This should allow me to post all the predictions on a Friday (or midweek) lunchtime.

4) Scoring:
A correct score = 3 goals
Correct result but score wrong = 2 goals
Incorrect result and score but correct number of goals = 1 goal

5) Three points for winning your game and one point for a draw. League table to be produced sorted by points, goal difference and goals scored.

If I understand correctly you want everyone to send the predictions for their team's scores for the whole season? If so, then wouldn't it be easier to split those predictions in parts instead of sending them all at once(for example, to split whole season in 4 quarters or something)? (Just because it's quite hard to tell how your team will do at the end of the season when the season hasn't even started and it might mean that many of the scores(predictions) will have to be changed later) Of course I don't mind to do it the way you proposed, but just sayin'

Guessing the idea is to have something entered for every game even though you can change it week by week?

Will be going 4-0 wins across the board which may or may not get changed on any given week.

I'd suggest for anyone likely to be making changes each week that they do something similar, a default score for both home and away, but not necessarily 4-0 :D

Only the supporter of the home team each week can change their score, so little point in having a default score for your away games.

We'll see! :D

edit: might go 3-0 away to be on the safe side!

This is deliberate as I won't have to chase people for predictions and also gives the home team a little extra edge each week.

Well, that bump didn't work! How about a Monday bump?

Does anyone have any decent ideas about attracting more people? It would be a shame not to run :-(

I'm put off by having to predict May's games in August.

Yeah, that's what I was talking about before here - I think many people don't want to think that far ahead as nobody really knows even how some of the teams will do at the start of the season

Fair enough. I was just trying to find a away of giving home managers an edge.

If there are any spaces by next Monday, I'll take them. But I don't want to take too many!

(Also, I don't support an EPL club)

Thanks very much for your interest guys, but I just don't have the time to run the other 14 teams by myself.

Maybe next season...
