TFF chit chat 25th, 26th, 27th and 29th January
SATURDAY 25TH JANUARY
FOURTH ROUND
Brentford 12:45 Leicester
Are you feeling lucky punk? That’s right, it a round of FA Cup games where luck is more important than judgement. First up, Leicester against a high flying Championship team in Brentford. Could this be the last FA Cup match at Griffin Park? The Foxes will be without Vardy, but for how long?
Burnley 15:00 Norwich
The first of the 3 o’clock games is an all Prem affair between Burnley and Norwich at Fortress Turf Moor. Burnley will be buoyant after beating Man U at OT. Norwich might be too distracted by league survival to field a full strength side.
Millwall 15:00 Sheff Utd
If you go down to the Den today your sure of a big surprise. Millwall are a hard team to beat and won’t be afraid to take the game to Sheffield United. Not sure what strength side Wilder will field today but expect a blood and thunder tie.
Newcastle 15:00 Oxford Utd
Newcastle against Oxford Utd next. Newcastle are more than simply surviving in the Premier League so you’d hope Stevie Bruce would fancy a Cup run. A strong team was fielded in the last round. Oxford lie 5th in League One.
Southampton 15:00 Tottenham
The second of the all Prem games had José's Spurs travelling to St Mary’s to take on Southampton. The Saints are in good form and relatively safe in the League so could field a strong side. Spurs may try to concentrate on a top 4 finish so could rest a few first teamers. Lloris is back fit.
West Ham 15:00 West Brom
It a West derby next, with Brom visiting Ham. West Bromwich Albion are top of the Championship (even above the mighty Leeds) but are in poor form. West Ham United are slipping towards the foot of the Premier League so might prioritise survival over the Cup.
Hull 17:30 Chelsea
Saturday’s late match sees Chelsea travelling to Hull. The Tigers are a mid table Championship side so Frank would hope for a win, even if he fields a team of bench warmers and kids. No Abraham for the Blues.
SUNDAY 26TH JANUARY
FOURTH ROUND
Man City 13:00 Fulham
A 1pm kick off for Manchester City against Fulham. Pep isn’t scared to field strong teams in Cup competitions so there could be a number of first teamers fielded today, even Aguero. Fulham are Championship contenders so might be tempted to rest a few for this one.
Tranmere 15:00 Man Utd
Just the one 3pm game this Sunday and this one will be all about United. Ole is under huge pressure at the moment so perhaps a decent Cup run will deflect from United’s League form? Fortunately they face a Tranmere side who last played on Thursday evening.
Shrewsbury 17:00 Liverpool
The late kick off sees Liverpool visiting Shrewsbury. The Reds have all but won the League so how will Klopp treat the FA Cup? Regardless, you would expect a Liverpool second string to beat a Shrewsbury side that lies in 16th place in League One.
MONDAY 27TH JANUARY
FOURTH ROUND
Bournemouth 20:00 Arsenal
The Monday Night Fixture takes Arteta's Arsenal to deepest darkest Dorset to take on Howe’s Bournemouth. Both teams had hard fought games in mid week and the two sides could be distracted by League affairs. Tough one to call.
WEDNESDAY 29TH JANUARY
West Ham 19:45 Liverpool
Just tacking Wednesday night’s Premier League game on to the back of this write up. This game was postponed from before Christmas and sees a lowly West Ham welcome table topping Liverpool to East London. Form says that this should be an easy away win but Liverpool have got to lose sometime (haven’t they?)

Klopp said Liverpool will have lots of fresh legs. Adrian definitely in nets. My interpretation = expect 10 other changes too.

Is is possible to request that the Telegraph disable your transfers for a weekend? Asking for a friend.

Distraction needs to be the tactic. I might even agree to go shopping.

Re: TFF chit chat 25th, 26th, 27th and 29th January
Matip and Lovren fit again and need game time. Slim chance one of them or Gomez will play full back I guess (Williams near guaranteed at RB unless he switches to LB??) but more likely Larouci who came on for Milner last time.
Could be a reasonably senior team without any of the recent starting XI. Origi, Minamino, Lallana (if well), Fabinho, Keita (if fit) and Curtis Jones and/or Chirivella and/or Elliot filling any gaps.
Adrian
Williams, Matip, Lovren, Larouci
Fabinho, Keita, Lallana
Minamino, Origi, Jones
Options - Chirivella, Elliot, maybe Ox and Gomez on bench???

Could be. Klopp said Minamino overdid it in midweek (to paraphrase and a bit)gutshot wrote:murf wrote: ↑25 Jan 2020, 10:48Matip and Lovren fit again and need game time.
