Miss classification of players

Post by skiffer »

Each year there are players that are in the wrong position that give value.

Strikers down as midfield and midfield who are classified as defenders.

This year Martial is a midfield but is playing striker and Dohetey (sp?) down as defence but playing midfield.

Other examples that may offer value ?

Jeff Schlupp is still listed as a defender, despite playing in midfield throughout last season. Would only offer any value if he reclaims a starting place and Palace's form drastically improves.

Could be argued that Salah and Sterling are strikers now and not wingers/ attacking midfielders in the traditional sense. It seems a players previous historic position not changed unless it is obvious. In Contrast Heung Min tends to play deeper now days but is still classed as a forward.

Others include Perez at Leicester who is playing attacking midfield role but is down as a forward. Or course they were not to know this given he played more forward role at Newcastle

The trouble is that the classification system has its roots in 4-4-2 which was prevalent at the time FF took off here. Maybe it’s time for a complete rethink of it.

In a lot of cases it’s not clear what a “striker” and “midfielder” should be defined as now. But I certainly think anyone who plays in a front three and gets more goals than assists should be classed as a striker.
