Week 3 – Stokes saves the Ashes

Man City won (3-1) at Bournemouth, Sterling again on the scoresheet and a brace for Aguero. VAR was again prominent, this time deciding that David Silva’s foot hadn’t been stepped on hard enough to result in a penalty

Liverpool brushed aside the Gunners at Anfield (3-1) with a brace for Salah but still no clean sheet. Liverpool are the only team with a 100% record after 3 games.

Another 3-1 result with a brace was West Ham’s victory at pointless Watford, with Haller ‘at the double’. The Hornets are the only team with zero points after 3 games.

Chelsea won (3-2) at Norwich with a brace for Abraham and another goal for joint top-scorer (with Raheem Sterling) Teemu Pukki .... did I mention he was in all of my teams?

Two major upsets for this week .... Newcastle won (1-0) at Spurs, despite the home side having 80% of the possession and 17 shots – but only 2 on target. VAR was also called into question in this game as Harry Kane was taken out NFL-style in the penalty area, which was apparently 'ok'
Palace won (2-1) at Old Trafford, United were awarded another penalty and this time Rashford wasn’t going to let Pogba mess it up, so he took it himself – and messed it up. PVA’s winner in the 93rd minute was the first 90+ minute winner against United at their place in Premier league history .... and made me smile

Just the 3 clean sheets this week - Villa, Saints & Newcastle .... nope – me neither.
With 3 games played, there are 10 teams who have W1, D1 & L1

Top TFF scorers after 3 games ....

Pukki 34
Sterling 29
Aguero 25
Barnes 25
Salah 24

We have our 3rd different leader in 3 weeks.
Leader on 248 pts - averaging 82.7.... Avengers Assemble A (Wayne Brignull)
100th on 213
1k on 187 (ish)
10k on 162 (ish)

Week 4 – Bury expelled from the league

Big scores this week with some of the most selected players getting in the points.

Liverpool continued their 100% start to the season with a 3-0 win at Burnley, Mane scored one but could have had more if the ball hadn’t got stuck to Salah’s boot  Man. City remain in 2nd place after a 4-0 win v. Brighton – Aguero with two goals. The only other team to remain unbeaten after 4 weeks is Leicester with a 3-1 win v. Bournemouth – Vardy also grabbing a brace.

Tammy Abraham made it 4 goals in 2 games as he scored both of Chelsea’s goals in a 2-2 draw v. Sheff United .... both teams on 5 pts in mid-table .... one will be happier than the other for sure. The other 2-goal hero this week was Richarlison in a 3-2 win for Everton v. Wolves.

The North London derby ended 2-2 at Arsenal, goals for Aubameyang, Lacazette, Kane & Eriksen would have pleased many TFF managers. Arsenal are in 5th spot just behind Palace, who won 1-0 v. Villa. The Eagles are 4th in the early table (7 pts) – Spurs on the other hand are on 5 points in 9th spot – already 5 pts behind Man City and 7 behind Liverpool.

Looking back at week 4 for last season, Watford were flying high – this year they remain stuck at the bottom (on 1 point) after a 1-1 draw at Newcastle.

Aguero, Vardy & Abraham were joint top TFF points scorers this week with 15pts each. Aguero leads the way after 4 weeks with Man. City having 4 of the top six ....

Aguero 40 pts
Pukki 36
Sterling 31
Salah 29
KDB 28
Mahrez 27
.... not much going on for defenders so far this season – early days though.

Last season we only had 4 different leaders of the TFF table after 13 weeks – this season we have our 4th in 4 weeks ....

Lead position up 94 to 342 pts - averaging 85.5.... Johns Jokers XI (John Hill)
100th up 73 (286 pts)
1k up 63 (250)
10k up 58 (220)

The early table shows the tracked positions in the top 1k are below last seasons early pace (the grey lines) which may be due to lack of clean sheets. I've also added the black dotted line which shows the progress of last years winning team - so, no need to panic yet, unless you've used 'several' transfers :?:

For the red dotted 'target' line this season I have used a weekly average of 57 points plus 24 pts for the F.A. cup final. This will give you a score of 2,361 which is the average of the last two years' winning scores .... go to it :)

Week 5 – Abraham hat trick

Liverpool’s 3-1 defeat of Newcastle at Anfield meant they kept up their 100% start to the season, 2 goals from Sadio Mane in this game .... but no clean sheet for the 4th time in 5 games. That won’t worry them too much as Man City were beaten 3-2 at Carrow Road with Teemu Pukki continuing his great start to the season, he now has 6 goals and is headed by only Aguero & Abraham (both on 7). Liverpool now have a 5-point lead at the top .... early days but that’s a very good start.

Another player who is on a roll is Son Heung-Min, he’s only played 3 games but has 28 points, he scored 2 and had 2 KCs in the 4-0 defeat of Palace. The only team to score more was Chelsea who won 5-2 at Wolves .... Abraham scored a hat-trick and popped one into his own goal for good measure - his last 3 outings have brought him 7 goals and points tallies of 12, 12 & 13 .... surely a must-have now alongside Pukki up front... :?:

Remarkably, only the top 5 clubs have a positive goal difference  There is only 1 point separating Spurs in 3rd and Palace in 12th.

Watford drew at home, 2-2 with Arsenal after being 2 down to an Aubameyang brace. The Hornets were the first club to blink this season in the managerial stakes .... they have dispensed with the services of Javi Garcia in favour of Quique Sanchez Flores .... or was it the other way around – I can’t keep up :? Flores is Watford’s 11th manager in 8 years.

The top TFF scorer of the week was Son with 18 pts, with Abraham & Aurier on 13pts.
The overall leaders are Aguero (47), Pukki (46) and Abraham (39).

Once again, we have a new leader, our 5th in 5 weeks. Congratulations to Maggie Low whose team, Summer Daisy, hit the front.

Lead position up 75 to 417 pts - averaging 83.4.... Summer Daisy (Maggie Low)
100th up 57 (343 pts)
1k up 51 (301)
10k up 43 (263)

Week 6 – Bernardo Silva hat-trick

Liverpool maintained their 100% record in the league this season with a 2-1 win at Chelsea, they’re not getting the clean sheets but the defenders are still racking up the points with KCs and goals. Liverpool have won their last 15 league matches - the only team with a longer winning run in top-flight history is Man City (18).

Man. City were back into winning ways with an 8 (eight) nil demolition of Watford at the Etihad. City were 5-0 up after just 18 minutes  Aguero’s goal (just the one :( ) in that game means he has scored in his last 7 Premier League games. Sterling watched it all from the bench

Spurs went down 2-1 at Leicester and were on the receiving end of the VAR offside microscope this week .... VAR giveth, and VAR taketh away. Leicester have quietly moved up to 3rd in the table.

Man. United lost 2-0 at West Ham. As a result, Manuel Pellegrini has become the first manager to beat United in the league vs. 4 different managers (Moyes, LVG, Maureen, OGS) .... and OGS has probably moved a step closer to the door.

10-man Arsenal managed to come from behind to beat Villa 3-2 and remain in 4th spot, level on points with Leicester and West Ham. Bournemouth won the South Coast derby 3-1 and are up to 6th.

Elsewhere, a Wood brace saw Burnley beat Norwich, and Sheffield United had a 2-0 win at Everton – both victors are comfortably in mid-table after 6 games .... alongside Chelsea and Man United.

Top five TFF scorers this week were Man City players; the top of the pile was Mahrez with 19 points.

The top five in the season-long table are ....
Aguero 57pts
Pukki 48
Mahrez 47
KDB 45
Aubameyang 43

Once again, we have a new leader, congratulations to Archer BarryAnthony .... one of many 'Archers' in the top 100.

Lead position up 70 to 487 pts - averaging 81.2.... 3 Barrels Dudley (Archer BarryAnthony)
100th up 60 (403 pts)
1k up 50 (351)
10k up 46 (309)

Week 7 – Liverpool still 100%, Watford still winless

Liverpool maintained their 100% start to the season thanks in no small part to a bit of a howler by Sheffield United goalie Dean Henderson. Winning on a day when you’re not at your best is what the top teams do, and Liverpool are flying high.
Man City won 3-1 at Everton, more points all round if you are prepared to play the Pep pick ‘n’ mix merry-go-round .... Mahrez is still flying. David Silva’s cameo appearance means he is the fastest player to get his 200th Premier League win (298 games)

Leicester thrashed Newcastle 5-0 with Vardy ‘bagging a brace’, they remain 3rd and are only 2 points behind City, but they travel to Anfield next week for Brendan Rodgers’ return to his former home.

Arsenal remain in 4th place after a dour 1-1 draw at Old Trafford, VAR came to their rescue after something of an aberration by the linesman who must have thought there was a train coming – he can’t have been flagging for offside – surely  Man United are only in the top 10 on goal difference, their worst start (after 7 games) in 30 years :?

At the bottom, Watford are still winless after a 2-0 loss at Wolves. The Hornets (2 pts) are only 3 points off Newcastle & Villa but they need to sort themselves out .... maybe a new manager would help

This week it was Leicester’s turn to top the TFF charts – well done if you have a Foxes block defence ....

Periera & Doherty 15 pts
Mahrez 13
Chilwell 13
Vardy 11
Evans 10 (along with 4 others)

The top 5 season-long have all scored 50 or more TFF points ....
Aguero 61; Mahrez 60;
Aubameyang, de Bruyne & Pukki (all on 50 pts)

Someone who looks like they had a Leicester block was our leader, lots of points but surely only a handful of transfers left :?: I almost took it for a new team but there seems to have been a name-change -

Leader up 106  to 593 pts - averaging 84.7.... Little Barrel Dudley (Archer BarryAnthony)
100th up 55 (458 pts)
1k up 50 (401)
10k up 47 (356)

More European games midweek and then one more round of the good stuff before another infernal break .... be on the lookout for an outbreak of pendulum plumbosis next week :)

Week 8 – A very strange week

First to the parts of this week that weren’t strange .... Liverpool won again and Watford didn’t .... again.

Liverpool beat Leicester 2-1 at Anfield with a last-minute penalty which, in time-honoured tradition was described by one manager as ‘obvious’ and by the other as ‘not clear and obvious’ Mane scored his 50th Premier League goal in his 100th league appearance .... not too shabby.
Watford drew 0-0 at home with Sheffield United, it’s not looking good for the hornets.

Now on to the results that will have pleased many a bookmaker up and down the land. First of all, Man City lost for only the 4th Premier League game out of 61 under Pep Guardiola as they were beaten 2-0 by Wolves, Traore with both goals. City are now 8 points behind Liverpool, that’s big gap at any stage of the season.

Spurs went to Brighton hoping for a positive result after being dumped out of the League Cup by Colchester and being thrashed 7-2 in the Champions League by Bayern Munich. They lost Lloris in the first 5 minutes to a freak injury and were beaten 3-0. Aaron Connolly with a brace on his full debut.

Another player who scored on his debut was Matthew Longstaff (brother of Sean) who scored the only goal as Newcastle beat Man United. It was suggested that OGS might not make it to Christmas as United manager, now I think he will be lucky to survive the international break.

Aston Villa scored 5 (five) at Norwich .... what’s happened to Pukki :?: Chelsea scored 4 at Southampton with Abraham and Mount on target again. Arsenal’s 1-0 win v. Bournemouth moved them above Leicester into 3rd.

Only 5 points currently separates 14th and 4th so it’s still early days but Man United are 12th and Spurs are 9th

Top TFF scorers this week were not the usual suspects at all ....
Wesley 13pts
Traore; Luiz and Connolly - all on 12 points

The top 5 season-long are unchanged from last week.

So – some strange results in the real world of football but even stranger goings-on in the TFF table this week as our leader has vanished – as have multiple other teams with the same manager’s surname. I was about to pen a glowing report as he/they were ‘all over’ the top 20 places but when I checked my figures prior to posting – they were gone :?

All of this means that, for the first (and probably last) time, our lead position has actually gone backwards, by 10 points; I told you it was a very strange week :!:

Lead position DOWN 10 to 583 pts - averaging 72.9.... Summer Daisy (Maggie Low)
100th up 30 (488 pts)
1k up 33 (434)
10k up 30 (386)

The scores of our tracked positions reflecting the poor performance of the ‘top’ players.

About the only thing tff have got right this year.

Wonder if someone did complain or if they just realised the extent themselves. Hardly tricky given the previous state of the Leaderboard.

Week 9 – Liverpool drop points!

In a low-key week there is very little to report. Liverpool finally dropped points managing a 1-1 draw at Old Trafford, thanks to/despite VAR, depending on your allegiances.

Man City won 2-0 at Palace to cut Liverpool’s lead to 6 points. Leicester beat Burnley and Chelsea managed to beat Newcastle 1-0 at the Bridge to move above Arsenal, who lost 1-0 at Sheffield United. That win for the Blades moved them from 15th to 9th .... moving Man Utd down to 14th

At the bottom, Watford drew 1-1 at Spurs with a thumping effort from Dele Alli .... to control the ball that is (a little handball joke there  ). VAR was the star of the show here too as they announced that the Spurs effort was NO GOAL .... as the ref pointed to the centre circle to award the goal .... no confusion there then! Still no win for the Hornets but they’re only 4 points from ‘safety’.

Terrible scores all round this week and it’s not difficult to see why when you see the top points scorers for the week were ....
Alonso 11pts; Grealish 10; Mendy 10; O’Connell 9

Vardy’s goal this week moved him into the top 4....
Aguero 63 pts; Mahrez 62; Aubameyang 54; Vardy 53

There are 25 players in the game with an ownership of more than 10% – this week their combined score was 64 points – at an average of 2.5
No wonder the scores are so low ....

Leader up 30 to 613 pts - averaging 68.1.... Summer Daisy (Maggie Low)
100th up 33 (521 pts)
1k up 32 (466)
10k up 31 (417)

Our 100th placed manager this week has 521 points – in the same week last season that score would have just scraped into the top 1,000. The team currently in 1,000th place has a score of around 466 .... the same score was in 10,000th place last season :!:

Scoring this season is proving to be difficult – maybe we need to ride out the storm and save those transfers because none of the big guns are firing at the moment so jumping between them is pointless

Week 10 – Pulisic, Vardy & Perez hat-tricks

Performance of the week goes to Leicester City who equalled the Premier League record for biggest ever win with a 9 (nine) - 0 win at Southampton  This equals Man United’s 9-0 win v. Ipswich in 1995 .... bizarrely there was a Schmeichel keeping a clean sheet in both of these games – if you made it up for a movie you’d be laughed out of town! Vardy & Perez both with hat-tricks for the Foxes.

Another man who got to take the match ball home with him was Christian Pulisic who scored the ‘perfect’ hat-trick (left foot, right foot, header) in Chelsea’s 4-2 win at Burnley.
Just 4% of TFF managers own Pulisic and only 1% own Perez – if I remember my maths correctly that’s .... ‘not many’ people who have both! :)

Another player worthy of a name-check is Tim Krul – the Norwich ‘keeper saved two penalties in the first half v Man United but unfortunately still ended up on the losing side (1-3). Man United became the first team to score 2,000 Premier League goals.

Liverpool came from behind to beat Spurs (2-1) at Anfield and Man City beat Villa 3-0. Arsenal had an interesting match v. Palace, 2-2 the final score but there was (the usual) VAR shenanigans, the captain (Xhaka) getting booed off and I’m sure I heard chants of ‘Wenger in’ :) . Arsenal are in 5th, four points behind the top 4.

Watford, who managed another draw (0-0 v. Bournemouth), are still winless after 10 games, but as Brighton were the only team in the bottom third of the table who managed a win this week, the Hornets are still not too far from safety.

Nine players managed double figures this week, 5 of the top 7 were Leicester players, Chilwell was the top scorer with 21 points, the three hat-trick heroes were next, all on 17.
18 players managed to get a minus score this week .... including 8 from Southampton and 5 from Burnley

Vardy (70 pts) has jumped to the top of the season-long table, ahead of Aguero (64); Mahrez (62); KDB and Abraham (57).

Average-ish scores this week .... and a new leader, Oliver Clifford with the fabulously named Suspicious Mince.

Lead position up 40 to 653 pts - averaging 65.3.... Suspicious Mince (Oliver Clifford)
100th up 49 (570 pts)
1k up 50 (516)
10k up 48 (465)

Week 11 – VAR :!: What is it good for :?: Absolutely nothing .... say it again.

Liverpool and Man City both came from behind to win 2-1 (at Villa and home to Saints), Mane’s goal was in the 94th minute .... it’s what champions do. Chelsea also won 2-1, at (still) winless Watford. Leicester remained ahead of Chelsea on goal difference after a 2-0 win at Palace.

The top 4 now have a 6-point gap to Arsenal (drew at home with Wolves) in 5th spot.

The bottom 3 teams (Saints, Norwich & Watford) all lost, and are looking in trouble even after 11 games. Newcastle enjoyed a good 2-3 win at West Ham, the hammers are winless in 5 league games after a good start.

Man United and Spurs are currently in 10th & 11th place respectively and it’s surely a matter of when, rather than if, they sack their managers this year. In Spurs’ 1-1 draw at Everton there was a nasty injury to Andre Gomes .... the ref/VAR sent Son Heung-Min off .... I haven’t seen the incident .... and I think that’s the way it shall remain – get well soon Andre.

John Lundstram scored twice in Sheff United’s 3-0 win over Burnley .... the Blades moved up to 6th in the table! What are the odds of them ‘doing a Leicester’ this season:?: .... probably not on the cards though – the way Leicester are playing :)

I was going to have a rant about VAR – but you’ve all seen it, so you already know

The aforementioned Lundstram was top scorer of the week with 12 points, Soyuncu & Mousset just behind with 11 and six other players on 10.
It was a ‘good’ scoring week this week, with some of the ‘usual suspects’ amongst the points ....

Leader up 69 to 722 pts - averaging 65.6.... Suspicious Mince (Oliver Clifford)
100th up 56 (626 pts)
1k up 53 (569)
10k up 51 (516)

.... but, the scores are still well down on last season.

Liverpool v Man city next week .... I hope VAR has it's straight-edged ruler at the ready :?

Week 12 – Liverpool 8 points clear .... Watford win!

Big news from the top & bottom of the table this week. First of all, Liverpool extended their lead by brushing aside Man City at Anfield (3-1), the reds now have a nine-point lead over City who drop to 4th!

Chelsea moved into 3rd spot after a 2-0 home victory v. Palace and Leicester continued their great form, beating the Gunners 2-0 and jumping above Man City and into a well-deserved 2nd spot.

Unai Emery is not going very well at Arsenal .... his first 50 matches at Arsenal: 87 points. Arsene Wenger's last 50 matches: 88 points .... not a favourable comparison

Sheffield United moved above Arsenal into 5th with a 1-1 draw at Spurs, and indeed were unlucky not to get all 3 points. I’m a supporter of the idea of VAR, we’ve all seen terrible calls by officials in the past and they need help from time-to-time, but ... VAR spotting a toe offside ... out on the wing ... about 4 passes before a ‘goal’ ... after 4 minutes of slide-rule geometry ... I think not. Clear & obvious people – CLEAR & OBVIOUS :!:

The more acceptable side of the new technological age was on display at Molineux where Trezeguet’s last minute consolation goal for Villa was awarded by the Goal Decision System.

Watford managed to find an opposition in even worse form than they are, when they went to Carrow Road and won 2-0. Norwich are now bottom of the table. The Canaries haven’t kept a clean sheet at home this season .... then again, nor have Liverpool, and something else they have in common .... they’ve both beaten Man City!

Only four players managed to get double figures this week, Vardy, Pereira, Deulofeu & Tarkowski .... and they all scored exactly 10 pts.

The top 5 season-long scorers after 12 weeks are ....

Vardy 87
Abraham 74
Aguero 73
Mane 69
Chilwell 69

Leader up 56 to 778 pts - averaging 64.8.... Suspicious Mince (Oliver Clifford)
100th up 55 (681)
1k up 58 (627)
10k up 52 (568)

There now follows another infernal break.

Week 13 – The ‘special one’ returns

Spurs were the first to blink in the great pre-Christmas managerial merry-go-round as they have swapped Pochettino for Mourinho. Jose may not be everyone’s cup of tea but he is certainly good fun – I’m pleased to see him back. I have a feeling that there will be a couple more new (or old) faces adorning Premier League benches before too long.

The old adage that there are only two things that are certain – death & taxes - needs to be updated .... Liverpool won again, Watford lost again and VAR is still ridiculous .... there, that’s that out of the way.

Liverpool have now moved to 30 Premier League games undefeated after a 2-1 win at Palace. That is the third-longest run after Chelsea (40) and Arsenal (49). They are still 8 points ahead of Leicester (won 2-0 at Brighton) and 9 clear of Man City (beat Chelsea 2-1). Aguero will be out for ‘a few weeks’ after an injury in that game.

Burnley had their 2nd consecutive 3-0 win (at Watford) and are now up into 7th spot. Sheffield United also scored 3 .... against Man United .... in a 3-3 draw.

Spurs got the new-manager bounce with a 3-2 win at West Ham, Pellegrini is one of those under fire managers as the Hammers are now in 17th, and only 3 points ahead of the drop zone.

Norwich won 2-0 at Everton, with Cantwell back in the points, now that we’ve all got rid of him  Everton are just a point above West Ham and remarkably, only 6 ahead of Watford (bottom)!
I don’t think Marco Silva will have to worry about finding time to do his Christmas shopping .... surely, he’s next to go :?:

Talking of Christmas shopping (segue!), here’s a handy guide on when to fit yours in .... we have games on 30th November then 1, 3, 4, 5, 7, 8, 9, 14, 15, 16, 21, 22, 26, 27, 28, 29 of December and 1, 2 January .... maybe just order on-line between games :)

Ten players made it into double figures this week. John Fleck top-scored with 13, Tarkowski & Lacazette got 11, and 7 others got 10.

Vardy was one of those ‘others’ and is romping away in the season-long stakes ....

Vardy 97
Mane, Chilwell, Abraham 76
Aguero 75
KDB, Pereira 71

Average scores this week and we have a new leader ....

Lead position up 54 to 832 pts - averaging 64.0.... NO BLEeding chance (Matthew Assiratti)
100th up 51 (732)
1k up 49 (676)
10k up 47 (615)

.... the scores are still lagging well behind last year.

Week 14 – Black Friday clearance on managers

Unai Emery & Quique Flores have both exited, presumably not pursued by a bear  Marco Silva may not be far behind them.

At the top Liverpool won again (2-1 v Brighton) .... the 7th time they have won 2-1 in 14 league games. This week it was the TAA & VVD show as the pair combined for both goals. Allison was the only fly in the ointment for the reds, as he saw red.

Leicester had a narrow (2-1) win at home to Everton. Iheanacho scored in the 94th minute with the help of VAR to keep the Foxes on the tails of Liverpool (8 points behind mind) and to probably ruin Marco Silva’s Christmas. It seems a long time since Iheanacho was the beneficiary of the first ever VAR decision.

Man City slipped further behind the top 2 with a 2-2 draw at Newcastle. I know I view the World through blue-tinted glasses but it seems Liverpool can’t lose, even if they aren’t at their best, and Man City can’t win, even if they perform well .... I think it’s Liverpool’s year, even at this early stage (sorry Leicester).

Chelsea suffered a shock defeat, (0-1) at home to West Ham, a result which bumps the Hammers up to mid-table and leaves Chelsea in 4th spot - 2pts behind Man City. The only other team to keep a clean sheet this week was Crystal Palace who won 2-0 at Burnley.

Spurs won 3-2 v. Bournemouth with a double for Dele Alli, who is finding some form under Mourinho. Harry Wilson scored both of Bournemouth’s goals.

At the bottom it hardly seems worth remarking that Watford lost, but losing 2-1 (after leading) at lowly rivals Southampton was a bad result .... still not Christmas, and still only 6 points from safety but that must have hurt.

Only 5 players made it into double figures this week ....
Dele Alli 15 pts
Aubameyang & VVD (12)
H. Wilson & Cresswell (11)

Jamie Vardy scored again .... anyone NOT got him? He leads the way for the season ....

Vardy 104 pts
Aubameyang (82)
KDB, Mane & Chilwell (78)

Oliver Clifford has snatched the top spot back after just one week, the top 3 are only 2 points apart.

Lead position up 40 to 872 pts - averaging 62.3.... Suspicious Mince (Oliver Clifford)
100th up 46 (778)
1k up 45 (721)
10k up 43 (658)

The team in 1,000th position is on the same score as the team in 10,000th position in week 14 last season!

Fine work Bren, but just on a point of John Bercow-type "ordaaaaaaah", wasn't it week 17 just gone, or has there been a diaphlectic split in the space/time continuum?

Best,

Diaphlectic split? Happened to me too once old chap. Costing a fortune since the CSA caught up with me.

I refer the honourable gentlemen to my previous answers, namely .... for the sake of comparison from season-to-season, I count each block of 10 games as a 'week'. Otherwise we have international breaks (which TFF counts as a week) and weeks like this one with 20 games - and over the next month it gets even whackier

Week 15 – Hi-yo Silva .... away!

Four Premier League managers have lost their jobs in a 16-day period, the latest of which, Marco Silva, was the most obvious. Everton’s 5-2 thumping in the Anfield derby was the final nail in his coffin. Saido Mane continuing his great form in that game.

Liverpool are now unbeaten in 18 games v. Everton (their best against any opposition in the EPL), they are also unbeaten in 32 games in the league, their longest run in the top-flight, and Klopp has reached 100 Premier League wins in 159 games, the second fastest (Mourinho, 142).

Leicester & Manchester Cities both won, Jesus scoring twice in a 4-1 win at Burnley and Vardy scoring again, in a 2-0 win v. Watford. Vardy has now scored in 7 consecutive league games, chasing his own record of 11. Nigel Pearson has stepped in as the Hornet’s manager until the end of the season .... I’ve just watched his ‘ostrich’ news conference again .... cringeworthy!

Arsenal also have a caretaker manager, old boy Freddie Ljungburg has stepped into the breach, the new-manager bounce isn’t yet apparent as the Gunners lost 2-1 at home to Brighton. Arsenal (10th), who are winless in 9 games in all competitions, are so bad at the moment - they are even below Spurs (8th) in the table

Spurs lost at Old Trafford, Delli Alli on the scoresheet again, but a brace from Rashford saw OGS beat Mourinho. United are now up into 6th – with the Etihad derby this weekend.

Wolves are going along nicely in 5th place, after a 2-0 home win v. West Ham. Palace are in 7th after a battling 1-0 defeat of Bournemouth despite having 10 men for most of the game.

Ten players made it into double figures this ‘week’ with the aforementioned Mane the pick of the bunch ....

Mane – 13
Rashford, Jesus, Origi - 12
Schlupp – 11
.... and 5 players on 10 pts.

Vardy is still running away with the season-long competition ....

Vardy – 110 pts
Mane – 91
Rashford – 87
Abraham – 86
Aubameyang - 84

We have a new leader in the TFF table, Michael Adlam is clearly a good fantasy football player but not, apparently, a fan of apostrophes :)

Lead position up 57 to 929 pts - averaging 61.9 .... Micks tricks (Michael Adlam)
100th up 57 (835)
1k up 57 (778)
10k up 53 (711)

In previous seasons the Tele software didn't allow apostrophes in team names but mine are now, happily, variations on "murf's mob"

Week 16 – Manchester is red

Noisy neighbours United had a party at the Etihad with a convincing 2-1 win (it could have been more). Rashford scored again and United are now up to 5th, just 8pts behind City :?

Liverpool won again, 3-0 at Bournemouth & second-placed Leicester kept up the chase with a 4-1 win at Villa, that was Leicester’s 8th consecutive league win, a club record. Vardy has become the second player to score in 8 consecutive league games on more than one occasion (van Nistelrooy in 2002 &2003).

Chelsea lost at Everton (3-1) which was a great start for caretaker manager Duncan ‘Big Dunc’ Ferguson, more ball-boy hugging amid ‘scenes’ at Goodison.

Arsenal scored three times in 10 minutes to win at West Ham 3-1, Aubameyang still getting points despite the Gunners poor run. The new-manager bounce has kicked in at Spurs, with Jose’s men winning 5-0 v. Burnley .... Kane with a brace and Son with the goal of the game.

Vardy marches on in the season-long competition and is as much a must-have as the Palace defenders (3 clean sheets in a row and a good run of fixtures ahead of them).

Vardy - 122 pts
Rashford & Aubameyang - 94
Mane - 91
Abraham - 88

Average scores this week with the ding-dong battle for TFF leadership continuing ....

Lead position up 46 to 975 pts - averaging 60.9.... Suspicious Mince (Oliver Clifford)
100th up 47 (882)
1k up 46 (824)
10k up 45 (756)

Week 17 – Unbeaten Liverpool go 10 points clear

It was top v. bottom at Anfield and 2 goals from Mo Salah saw the reds home, although Saido Mane should have had a goal, but his armpit was judged to be offside .... another shocking VAR decision  . Apparently, Liverpool are after Takumi Minamino from Salzburg – so they could then potentially play a midfield of .... Gini, Mini, Mane & Mo (‘courtesy’ of Jim Beglin)

Second-placed Leicester slipped up at home to Norwich (1-1) so Klipperty’s boys extend their lead to 10 points. Man City won 3-0 at hapless Arsenal, the Gunners slipping down to 10th in the table. Chelsea lost for the 4th time in 5 league games  (0-1 v. Bournemouth) and are now 6 points behind City, but still hang on to 4th spot.

At the bottom, Watford have still only won once this season and are on 9 points, Norwich are next on 12 and Southampton lost 0-1 v. West Ham and have slipped into the bottom 3, on 15 points.

Only three players made it into double figures this week ....
KDB top-scored with 2 lovely goals and 15 points,
Mo Salah with 12 pts and
2-goal hero John Fleck with 10.

The season-long table is still headed by the Foxes front man ....
Vardy 127 pts
KDB & Mane 99
Aubameyang & Rashford 96

Once again, the lead of the TFF table changes hands ....
Lead position up 54 to 1,029 pts - averaging 60.5.... Micks tricks (Michael Adlam)
100th up 51 (933)
1k up 50 (874)
10k up 50 (806)

There are League Cup quarter finals for the next 2 days and then the Christmas madness begins. I hope you have saved plenty of transfers for the ups-and-downs of the next 2 weeks, plus some of the tasty FA Cup ties in early January :?:

Another way of interpreting the graphs.... I'm only two and a half weeks behind the leader and less than a week behind 100th!

Week 18 – Liverpool have ‘completed’ football

Whilst the rest of the Premier League battled on through the floods and (relative) cold, Liverpool nipped over to Qatar for a Winter break and to win the Club World Cup. This means that Liverpool have now ‘completed’ football as they have won everything available to be won .... hats off.

In their absence, Man City did Liverpool a favour, by winning .... who saw that sentence coming a few months ago :!: :?: City’s 3-1 win over Leicester means that without playing, Liverpool effectively pulled further ahead in the title race. They are now 10 points clear with a game in hand .... it is going to take more than a slip-up for them to muck it up from here.

The apprentice beat the master in the final game of the week, Frank’s Chelsea beating Jose’s Spurs (0-2) with Willian turning in one of ‘those’ performances he produces every few months .... don’t be tempted, it won’t last. The game also saw a red card for Son, physical assault by Gazzaniga, racist abuse from the crowd and objects thrown onto the pitch – Merry Christmas everyone

At the bottom, Watford beat Man United (2-0) with the help of a comedy David De Gea flap, at a shot your granny would have saved  United are really ‘Jekyll & Hyde’ this season, beating the top teams and losing to the ‘others’. That 3 points for Watford moves them level with Norwich (on 12 pts). Southampton’s 3-1 win at Villa was a big result for both teams as it moves Saints ahead of the Villans and out of the bottom three.

Two incoming managers watched from the stands as Arteta’s Arsenal played out a ‘bore draw’ at Ancelotti’s Everton .... there’s another thing that you never thought you’d read ‘Ancelotti’s Everton’ :!:

Sad news this week as Martin Peters MBE has died aged 76 . He scored the 2nd goal in England’s 1966 World Cup Final victory, one of the 20 goals he scored for England in 67 appearances (1966-74). He was described by manager Alf Ramsey as ‘10 years ahead of his time’.... RIP.

This week there were just 5 players who made it in to double figures .... two of them are Watford players :!:

Willian & Ings with 12 pts
Alonso, Kabasele & Sarr with 10pts

.... that 12 points moved Danny Ings into the top 7 of the season-long table .... how did I miss this happening :?:

Jamie Vardy is 30 pts ahead of his rivals after scoring again this week, he is owned by 41% of managers, the rest must have given up already.

Vardy 134 pts
KDB 103
Mane 99
Auba & Rashford 98

For the 5th week in a row our two pace-setters have swapped the lead of the TFF table ....

Lead position up 34 to 1,063 pts - averaging 59.1.... Suspicious Mince (Oliver Clifford)
100th up 28 (961)
1k up 31 (905)
10k up 29 (835)

The fact that Liverpool didn’t have a league game will have had an effect on the scoring but it is still very low compared to last season.

Thanks for these weekly reviews - always informative and amusing.

Minor points - have Liverpool won the rebranded Europa League? One to target next season after a spectacular 2020 collapse

Don't think Kepa assaulted anyone - it was at the other end of the pitch!

Of course it was at the other end of the pitch! I have updated to show Gazzaniga was the culprit - thanks :)
