2018-2019 UEFA Nations League

Post by Ralfbergs »

So, what the heck is Nations League which has recently been approved and from which some teams will be able to qualify for Euro 2020 (even though there still will be qualification for Euro 2020?!)

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2018%E2%8 ... ons_League

I don't really understand the format (I admit, I skipped through it as I don't have time to thoroughly read it at the moment) - does it mean there will be more international games than now? Can a team from League C or League D qualify to Euros?

I guess this will be running before actual qualification for Euros, so some teams which qualify through this won't have to participate in qualification? I'm confused, can somebody who has more knowledge of this explain layman's terms what this league will really mean?

There is a Thread somewhere here where someone explained it to this idiot - well tried to as it seems nonsensical to me.

allegedly, UNL games will mostly replace friendlies (although you can still have other friendlies provided you still have free dates in the FIFA international calendar

Can a team from League C or League D qualify to Euros?
regular Euro Qualifiers give 20 berths from 10 groups
four groups in each UNL league: winners go to playoffs (Semis+Final) for each League, to grant 4 more berths

I guess this will be running before actual qualification for Euros, so some teams which qualify through this won't have to participate in qualification?
will have to check Uefa site and wiki again... off-the-top:
UNL groups before regular qualifiers
then regular qualifiers before UNL playoffs
if a team qualifies for UNL playoffs, then also qualifies thur regular qualifiers, they'll pass on their UNL playoff berth to not-qualified teams "next in ranking"
NOT CLEAR (to me) whether in "UNL" ranking, i.e. according to UNL group results, or by Uefa Euro Ranking, and at which date
whichever, there are 12 teams in UNL League A and League B
whichever ranking is used, it's very likely (barring upsets) that all League A teams and most League B ones qualify regularly, so that in worst case there will be 4 L.B teams in one playoff, 8 L.C teams in two other playoffs, and 4 teams in the League D playoff granting the 24th berth

ask Finisher1, he's the expert

Thanks MoSe, you made it much more clearer to me, even though I am still not sure about some aspects. Will have to read about it in more detail I guess

This is what I was banging on about ages ago: in theory 20 Seeds from the top 24 qualify directly, shirley? (Or no more than 1 from Group C\D will qualify).....

It's a pile of steaming turd for Int Football to be on TV during Non EC\WC summers - you now the ones where we have a break from overpaid Primadonnas, and idiot commentators hyperboling tat.....
