a win now would really put us in a strong position. Lallana from the bench to win the game?

Re: FISO's WC2014 Thread
Uruguay really were pish, and I don't think England should have too many concerns even if Suarez is back.
I don't rate Uruguay at all, but that result was still a surprise. Some goal by Urena. Wow.
And yeah, Arsenal would be foolish not to give that boy Campbell a look next season.

I think I read that Costa Rica to win was 1/1000.

Does that mean both England and Italy will be (even) happier with a draw?

No chance. Uruguay were only about 1/2 to win, so I reackon Costa Rica would have been 10/1 tops, probably less.GregsEggs wrote:I think I read that Costa Rica to win was 1/1000.
Maybe about 1000/1 to win the whole thing.

Honduras resorting to the predictable thuggery they displayed in warm-up matches. Will be lucky to end up with 10 on the field here.
With a coach called Luis Suarez, not surprising their tackles have a bit of bite to them though...

Getting like Uruguay of 1986. Thought the days of teams resorting to this in the World Cup were in the past, I suppose Holland did in last time's final...

Honduras just a horrible bunch, glad that they don't seem to have injured anyone more talented yet. Ref needs a talking to, could easily have given them another handful of yellows second halfforestfan wrote:Honduras resorting to the predictable thuggery they displayed in warm-up matches. Contrast to Honduras, Bosnia look a lovely side and matched Argentina comfortably in the first half, pity they don't have more depth in the squad. Expecting better from Argentina after the break.

Re: FISO's WC2014 Thread
Well, I suppose we were overdue a crap game... it's taken until day 5 and was one you would expect to be crap anyway!
I did have reasonably high hopes for Nigeria rediscovering some of the spirit of those '94 and '98 teams, but they were very flat and expect them to be rolled over easily by Argentina and Bosnia.

Re: FISO's WC2014 Thread
So, the third time in four World Cups that the defending champions have failed to get past the group stage... doubt they will even manage a consolation victory over the Aussies now, guess they will play the reserves anyway.
We've probably seen the last of Xavi, Casillas and Alonso at least in a Spain shirt... like the French in '02 it's the end of one of international football's most dominant eras.
Brazil won't be relishing potentially coming up against Chile next though, if the draw was kinder to them they would be a good bet for the last four - beat the Dutch and it really could be on for them.

I thought the after match analysis particularly poor, it just seemed to consist of regrets that an era has ended said in a few different ways by a few different people, didn't tell me much.

Three World Cup red cards for that family then... that's some record! Perhaps only the Zidanes could challenge it in the future...
