Different alcoholic coffee drinks
Does anyone have any recommendations for liquor coffees? Everyone knows that 'Irish coffee' is with whisky, 'French coffee' is with Brandy etc, what others do people know and like?
Why do I ask? Well, last year I was on holiday in Cuba, and someone in front of me in the queue at the hotel coffee bar asked for a 'Brazilian', so I did the same, and it was great, if a little sweet for my taste. I think it had a lot of Triple Sec / Grand Marnier in it, not sure what else, I think coffee liqueur, but it was certainly a good way to wake up with caffeine, alcohol and sugar at 7am to watch a premier league game (time difference obviously). So this year I might experiment further - does anyone have any others to recommend?
Irish - whisky
French - brandy
Spanish / Caribbean - rum
Brazilian - orange liquor, coffee liquor
I've found a few lists on Wiki, with lots of variations, but would be more interested on ones which people have tried (or perhaps heard of from friends etc)

Different alcoholic coffee drinks
I'm quite partial to a coffee with a generous helping of Disaronno (Amaretto).

Tia Maria works well
But sugar and brandy plus double espresso is the best wake up hit IMO
If you want to add cream and make it float the key is plenty of sugar and slow pour over the back of a spoon - the sugar makes it float so you can't do without it

Re: Different alcoholic coffee drinks
Hmmm Amaretto sounds interesting. I thought that might be called an 'Italian Coffee', so I clicked on a few Google hits, and discovered that no one is that clear on the names - if you order an Italian liqueur coffee, it might contain Ameretto, or Sambuca, or Galliano - so I'd better just ask for precisely what I want!
Tia Maria sounds good too. Perhaps I will just order by the name of the spirit - would rather be cool and know the names though... lol
I did sometimes have two double espressos to wake me up after a hard night - I'm sure the brandy and other ingredients could only improve that.

Having read the article, I might try Café Belmonte first, work my way towards carajillo by trying it with milk first.Groomyd wrote:I used to have these in Spain - carajillo

Ahh... but yes you can.Groomyd wrote:Tia Maria works well

Put the cream in a seperate short glass, cover with a few paper napkins and shake vigorously to froth. Then pour slowly "over the back of a spoon" and you got yourself a sugar free 'Bernie' (/Burni).
[The air bubbles reduce the volume-weight enough to make it float]

Re: Different alcoholic coffee drinks
@Groomyd - this is a perfectly good English drink served for many years now in one of Oxford's leading (translate: longest standing) pubs. It is offered sugar-free for those more discerning clients who actually prefer the taste of coffee & whisky/brandy over sugar.
This cream frothing trick is a well known bartenders' technique...

After Eighteen recipe
2 oz Kahlua® coffee liqueur
2 oz white creme de menthe
chocolate milk (A Latte might work instead?)

Are all these suggestions for waking up?
Fook it, may as well replace the morning ciggie with a spliff while we're at it

Breaks my heart reading this thread, just hope a good coffees not used if you must have something with coffee get a second glass, in it put a nice brandy in it, after appreciating the coffee, put cup down, lift second glass and enjoy the brandy.

Baileys coffee - but use the Baileys as milk (e.g. make it a Latte with three quarters of cup with Baileys)

Re: Different alcoholic coffee drinks
To be fair, I was originally asking for recommendations for waking up on holiday, and mainly in preparation for watching EPL games kicking off in Cuba at about 8am! I don't intend to have any of these before work next week!bigsheff wrote:Are all these suggestions for waking up?
Though there are some ideas here to keep my busy when holiday time does come. (Espresso Martini, really Zim? I'll try it, but I'm dubious about that one... lol)

Re: Different alcoholic coffee drinks
Obviously missed this thread first time round.
Truly shocking. I'm with mikeg13, other than using a decent single malt rather than a brandy. Anything else suggested is plain wrong.
Red bull already contains caffeine for starters!
