Christmas day meat

Post by sted »

Anyone thought about this yet?

The only reason I have is I've just been given half a Loaghtan lamb (it's a Manx breed)

So the leg is going to be on the table this year.

I've thought about it. Been invited to the in-laws so as long as it comes with a case of beer and a nice red it'll be fine.

Turkey crown for us again with three layers of bacon on top, less waste and doesn't take up the whole oven.

The left hand side.

I wouldn't have minded if it was the top half, the bottom half, it's arse or it's head to be honest. Freebies are always nice. (price of bloody meat nowadays)

My missus cant eat Turkey so we will be having the usual rib of beef, purchased from the local farm butchery.
Along with a Ham bought from the supermarket.

Not forgetting the 100 odd pigs in blankets I usually make :)

Dont overcook it. Do you have a meat thermometer ? 60° is about right for a nice pink medium roast.

A massive turkey here - lucky to get a free one from work - and it is massive - any weight upwards of 25lb.

Keeps us going for a while - hard to keep it anything approaching moist - but it tends to find itself into any number of curries etc.

Sausage meat stuffing too - mmmmm.

Misread the title and thought someone was planning a FISO Meet.

I've never really like the whole Rosemary / Lamb thing. I think it overpowers the meat. Then again, Loughtan is quite gamey so I might try it with the other leg (shoulder)

As far as I know it is a Southern US thing but if any of you have never deep fried a turkey I assure you it will change your life. Had my first 7 years ago and every turkey since then has been a complete let down. They are usually injected with some sort of Cajun marinade and fried in a giant pot of peanut oil. Added bonus is that cooking time is less than an hour in most cases and it is a good excuse to get outside and way from the in laws :)

That sounds pretty good to me but cooking outside on Christmas Day in the UK won't be very pleasant.

Got to be a whole turkey so that you can stuff it. Stuffing is one of my favourite Christmas things.

Will cook a turkey crown and a leg of lamb. May do a honey glazed gammon as well (tho a small piece) just for a bit of variety.

Can't beat the cold meats and pickled onions :D
