Life of Pi

Post by Zimmerman »

I know this isnt strictly the right forum, but will probably have more meaning to the folk who frequent this corner of FISO;

I have just seen ad advert for this being at the cinema's at xmas.
Im apprehensive… really want to see it (one of the best books ive read)… but due to that (and the nature of the story), really cant help thinking the film will be a disappointment.

Hopefully the CGI etc. available nowadays, should ensure it has a chance.

Not sure what the angle will be, looked a bit like its appealing to the childrens market (based purely on the tiger i saw and the fact its out over xmas).

Fingers crossed.

I loved the book and have seen the trailers and it looks pretty spectacular. I think if possible it probably needs to be viewed as a separate entity without trying to see if it lives up to the book.

I want to see the movie but I did not know it was based on a novel. I might read the novel first before I see the movie now.

I'm struggling to imagine how this (very good but over-rated) book could be presented as a film.

More intrigued than worried...

You are right there Murf - I remember thinking "it's a good read but not worth the hype"
Will be fascinating to see how it works on the silver screen.

Book was amazing, hopefully the film matches up to the book.

Just got round to watching it.
Was tragically bad.

Sure some scenes would have been stunning in 3D... But huge swathes of it just looked like a guy in a boat in a studio. TERRIBLE acting (akin to a token Asian family you might get in Eastenders). Films pretty much alway disappoint after the book, but this managed it in spectacular fashion.
