Art? At Paddington Crossrail

Post by Zimmerman »

Have finally caught up on the crossrail documentary (very good watch if your mildly interested in mega engineering feats). The 15 Billion Pound Railway.

Anyway, the Paddington station has a 90 meter glass roof; a rare treat for any subway station. They decided to adorn the glass canopy roof with some art. What did they choose you ask?

Clouds. #%^*+=% clouds. In England.

Do artists purposely take the piss?

In this country is it really necessary to have clouds as some sort of feature?

It is a permanent installation or are different artists going to have their take on it as time goes on?

No, I think it permanent.

Just don't get it.

a) is it really 'art'
b) how many days a year will it be that we don't have real clouds
c) on the days we don't, do we need faux clouds to compensate for the real ones? Bonkers.

On the topic of art; there was a documentary on last night about a fella called Jean-Michel Basquiat (who' had a painting sell for over $100m recently.

Some of it does look quite interesting... but it also looks like my 5yo did it. But all the critics and experts fall over themselves to say what a genius he is/was. I know art is subjective but it's also racket if you ask me.

Fake sun would have been more popular and effective...

Maybe they will eventually make the fake clouds produce rain or even snow, for the true outdoor experience!
