..........................Friedel
Walker...Vertognhen....Dawson....Ekotto
..............Sandro................Parker
Lennon..............Sigurdsson...................Bale

Yeah, they'll take gametime off each other for sure, think Caulker may get a few as well. I think THudd may get a few starts ahead of Sandro if he's fit again, but that formation seems to be the 'AVB' formation & how I see our players fitting in. Any other thoughts?

Anyone have any good bit of instinct that Vertonghen is a guaranteed starter? No chance for a Dawson/Kaboul pairing?

That's not a stupid question but I just don't see Vertonghen being bought as a back up.

Good to hear, pending the pre-season minutes he should be in my opening XI

The Torygraph is reporting that Tottenham Hotspur facing competition for the signature of Emmanuel Adebayor from Lokomotiv Moscow.

Just a case of wait and see... RVP is due to start training with Arsenal and Modric will probably do a few laps round Spurs Lodge before he hops off to Real Madrid.

The addition of both Adebayor and Moutinho would represent a good summer's trading for Spurs. They might also need a deputy for Bale if Pienaar goes back to Everton. Adebayor is cruical though, as Spurs have 3 players (Defoe, VDV and Sigurdsson) who can play off him - actually, I wouldn't be too disappointed if VDV left as he just doesn't stay fit for long enough.

I expect Spurs to be a lot tougher in central midfield next season and, hopefully, Vertonghen will bring a big improvement at set pieces, at both ends of the park.

Line-ups for tonight's first friendly, at Stevenage...

1st Half:

Cudicini; Walker, Dawson, Kaboul, Naughton; Jenas, Livermore; Bentley, Lennon, Pienaar; Kane.

2nd Half - with debutants:

Friedel; Walker, Gallas, Vertonghen, Bassong; Carroll, Jenas; Lennon, Sigurdsson, Townsend; Kane.

Most of the squad excluding those in Euro 2012, Olympic squads or injured (Huddlestone still?, Bale, BAE).

Wonder if AVB will find any use for Jenas, Bentley and Bassong - players sidelined by Harry?

I actually think Jenas is a reasonable player - I don't rate Bassong at all and unless Bentley has a total change of attitude then he will just run his spurs contract down and dissolve somewhere else. Shame, he has talent.

No question that Spurs need a striker that can hold it up, play back to goal and run the channels. When Adebayor is in the mood there are few better at that, it's just that he isn't in the mood as much as he should be. Especially when he's just been given, as opposed to playing for, a new contract.

I can also reveal that Tom huddlestone has big hair

Spurs won the game at Stevenage 2-0 with goals from Gylfi Sigurdsson 8-) and Yago Falque (late sub - an attacking, Spanish, midfielder back from loan at Southampton).

First goal was, reportedly, made by Andros Townsend also back from his (umpteenth) loan period; it will be interesting to see if AVB sees him as Bale's deputy - lots of talent and has looked good in his few first team outlings.

Question marks over a few other players as well - Gallas, Gomes and Dos Santos. I expect that the later 2 will probably be sold, but Gallas may see out the final year of his contract.

As for Huddlestone, there have been some rumours that Fulham are Keen to sign him and he only has a year left on his current contract. However, I would be surprised if Spurs sold both him and Modric - but much will depend on the state of his ankle.

From his side profile - a little bit like Glenn Hoddle. :)

Actually, I didn't see the game (hence the use of the word 'reportedly' WRT to the assist for the first goal) - apologies if I gave the opposite impression  , Hamilton NZ to Stevenage, Herts is just a bit too far to travel for a pre-season friendly.

Yes, that name also prompted a few comments on the Spurs FB page - but, not surprisingly, no one there suggested that he might have been exchanged for Bale. :) Of course, the Spurs version is Tom Carroll - a name also familiar to Derby fans as he was there, on loan, last season.

Just seen some brief footage of the game...nice goal from Sigurdsson and a substitute appearance from Tom Huddlestone, complete with the 'afro' hairstyle alluded to by Groomy.

Interesting that Pienaar played a half... but also that he was apparently booed by the Spurs fans.

I don't blame them for that given his comments about wanting to return to Everton and, to a lesser extent, his congratulations to Chelsea.

So your fans don't want him and ours do. Surely there's a deal somewhere in there?

Have commented my respect for him on another thread, pleased he has called it a day, to me would have been awful to see a player of his quality struggle.

Latest on the Modric 'situation' is that Real will only pay 35m euros for wantaway Spurs star.

Seems that Spurs want a miniumum of 35m sterling - so that might mean that he goes to PSG (or stays at WHL) as I can't see Man United paying that much for him.

Yeah especially after the purchase of Kagawa. I hate to see him leave the prem though, enjoyed watching him play the last few seasons. Of course I would rather him leave than sign for UTD

Anyone on here know what's happening with Adebayor? I believe you agreed a fee but seem to be contract rumblings from his agent since?

I ask from a fantasy football perspective as expect him to be great value if finally signs!

The Sun is reporting that... TOTTENHAM target Emmanuel Adebayor is threatening to see out the remainder of his contract at Manchester City.

Seems to be the small matter of a 3m quid salary shortfall. Maybe Spurs should directly fund an orphanage and/or football school in Toga, just in case that extra dosh isn't all being used for the common good. As it stands, I don't see how they can pay him more than Gareth Bale and the other senior players...so it might depend on how desperate City are to get rid. Pretty desperate, one would think, judging by the size of the 'agreed' transfer fee of 6m - that's akin to a free in Cityland.

Do think City are in a hurry to bring wage bill down, otherwise the do face problems, so would not be a surprise to me for a way round to be found.
Do hope you watched Caulker tonight, played well against a very impressive Brazil side, will he be as good as King probably not, but in my view the difference at same age not that big, he is a talent.

Unfortunately not, mike, but thanks for the glowing report. Caulker certainly looked good at Swansea last year and it will be interesting to see how AVB ranks him in the CB pecking order - along with Vertonghen, Kaboul, Dawson and Gallas. Either way, there are bound to be some injuries there - and Kaboul is also Kyle Walker's deputy - so Caulker will get his chance, although initially it might only be in the Europa League and Carling Cup.

Really surprised by that considering Naughton is now back and had a great season on loan with us at Norwich last year.

Maybe if KN gets sold that would be the case, but can't see Kaboul being selected over KN in a right back slot tbh.

Another case of 'wait and see' with the new manager; I don't think that Redknapp really rated Naughton, but AVB may see things differently and he played Naughton at left back in the first friendly. Kaboul is actually a really decent right back - very strong going forward.
