Michael Valentine writes: 'I've heard a striker from the Bundesliga has been booked in for a Tottenham medical today, hopefully this means Lewandowski? And skybet have trimmed him from 13/2-2/1. Maybe wishful thinking, but I have heard very strong links on Twitter and the Spurs forum that this one could be true. On the game last night I thought it was another terrific advert for the EPL, and it looks as though 10 teams could fight it out for 3rd and 4th, exciting season ahead, can't wait

My only take is i bet it aint Lewandowski....

IF... Spurs bring in a new striker, when is the deadline for his registration, so he can play against WBA on GW2?

The Mirror says that Spurs are after Dzeko - The Sun states that the Adebayor will be concluded this week (links on BBC Football Gossip page). Would have to say that the later is far more likely; perhaps The Mirror is no longer a decent source now that Harry isn't feeding them titbits. The Chamakh rumour is scotched elsewhere (please).

Don't think that Andy Carroll is an AVB-type; although would be useful as a Plan B type player in a team with decent wingers.

Agree with Dot that Everton were very impressive last night - but not sure that 10 teams are competing for 3/4 place?

Poor Canaries as Bassong goes for the relegation treble (Newcastle, Wolves and Norwich). By all accounts he was highly recommended to Redknapp by Alan Shearer, which tells you a lot about the later's credentials as a punter.

Even though Shearer represents the lethal combination of being a bore and a pr*ck at the same time, I have to admit to agreeing with him regarding Carroll. One day when in the right team, Carroll will be a revelation.

Well he was certainly doing fine at Newcastle - but moving to Liverpool for such a ridiculously-high fee was never going to work (and I did state that on FISO at the time...we're all entitled to the odd correct prediction, except maybe Achiles). FWIW, I'd say that Villa might be the best club for Carroll at present - if they've got the cash.

BOT - Soccernet are repeating The Sun story about the Adebayor deal being back on (and I think that's always been likely). Bassong has passed a medical at Norwich - without it going straight to the opposition - so that deal is back on; no mention of any fee - perhaps Spurs are paying them to get him off the books (what a way to treat poor old Chris Hughton)?

The hardest thing to fathom is why AVBM ( A VERY BAD MANAGER) makes Dawson club captain pre-season, throws a spanner in the works for FF managers by playing Vertigo every game, then come the ist game starts with Gallas and Kabol.

Vertigo on bench Dawson nowhere near it, and now rumours are Dawson is to be sold.

Great management.

And critises Gallas for the Ba goal. With their next few fixtures, Spurs should still go well, but inspite of AVB, not because of. Not a colleague for the trenches methinks. Still, I'm A Vertonghen Believer..is he?

Yes, at long last...Adebayor. 8-)

Reported fee of £5m is an absolute steal - even for a 28 year old with a tricky temperament. Wages are quoted as in the 80-100k per week range - probably the same as Bale makes and the BBC are intimating that City are still funding the oprhange in Toga...
It is understood Spurs refused to break their strict wage structure to accommodate Adebayor. But with the player refusing to accept a big pay-cut, the Premier League champions were forced to accept having to continue to pay the player the difference between his new wage of around £80,000 and his earnings at City in order to complete the deal.

AVB's detractors will be latching on to reports that Huddlestone's potential co-rebel, Dawson, could be sold and the (perfectly correct) criticism of Gallas' poor defending at Newcastle. Sounds like good news for Caulker watchers and it's also pleasing to see that Kyle Naughton has just been awarded a new 4 year contract.

ESPN now reporting that Spurs have accepted QPR's bid for Dawson. Fee is stated to be £7.5 million; which seems reasonable for an injury-prone 28 year old, if Dawson passes the medical.

So...King, Nelsen, Bassong (for £3 million) and Dawson all gone from the central defensive ranks; leaving Vertonghen, Kaboul, Caulker and Gallas.

Now...where's Luka?

That will depend on his fitness - how much training did he do at City and when did he last actually play in a game? From memory, he went straight into the starting line-up (at Wolves) last season - so perhaps he is one of those players who maintains a high level of fitness and doesn't spend the close season on the turps and tiles?

I guess AVB doesn't care much about the backs, this really looks a terrible re-building program. Spurs were never the strongest in this area, they look an accident waiting to happen now...

The transfer fee is only part of the story.
If say 5 year contract then £5 plus £25m. Is £30m an absolute steal for a 28 year old with history of problems?
Could be but also high risk.

Luka is in limbo now, he trains by himself, no games since EURO... He definitely won't play again soon, even if he finds a club (or stays in Tottenham) I don't think he'll reach his max potential up until Christmas (and that's if he starts playing now). I've read that Pjanic refused Spurs' offer, so that's another minus. Now they will try to bring Willian (or similiar name), Brasilian from Shaktar Donjeck. The same source also links a Brasilian striker Damiao with Spurs (I'd provide a link but the text is in Croatian, so no big use...)

Of course the transfer fee is only part of the story - I've been making that point on FISO for years now, mainly to a couple of Arsenal fans who seemed to think that Spurs spent more money on players than their club.

Sky Sports have reported that it's a 4 year contract - although one could argue that last season's loan effectively means 5, in total. So, looking back after one good season, Levy got a top 27 year old striker for £5 million and at a wage lower than any of the top strikers at the Big Four clubs are paid; in fact, one of those 4 clubs is actually still paying him more money than Spurs are, which might be unprecented. If that's not a steal, I don't know what is - certainly not Torres or Carroll.

Meanwhile, Huddlestone joins the old boys club at Stoke - hope that he has a great season there.

The stumbling block with Adebayor was years 3 and 4 of his contract.
For 2 years he'll get his £170,000pw with Man C's £90,000 topping up the Spurs capped £80,000.
What is fascinating is how the wily Levy has finessed Years 3 and 4,since it's potentially £9m as well as driving a bus through the wage scale in 2 years time.

any particular reason why you guys are offloading huddlestone? always liked him as a player  and i thought he looked ok pre-season (ok i only watched one game). i know he's not exactly fpl gold, but i was surprised that he was considered surplus to requirements. is livermore that good?
