I'd settle for a few CS's and a predictable defence to pick from

QPR seem to be assembling a pretty stellar line-up for the start of the 2005-06 season.

Impressive line up for you Jon.
I think Fabio is safer if midfield :D I quite like Traore on the left.

Dawson deal looking dodgy now, and not even finalised the deal for Carvalho. Looking at Cesar as a prod to Robert Green, too. I don't enjoy these last minute signings - not this season when it was all supposed to be sorted. Would be very disappointed if we miss out on Dawson. A much better longer term bet.

QPR are finally ridding themselves of that joke of a keeper R.Green and possibly getting a faaaarrr better one in Julio Cesar from Inter... that if the deal is finalised properly! (unlike the caravalho deal...)

Hmm not sure I am getting the point of this. It won't help Green's confidence. We signed him, obviously on a top salary, knowing he is prone to the odd gaff. Cerny is plenty good enough to keep Green on his toes. Of course I would have taken Cesar over Green before we had signed either, but not now. Money being wasted here.

It would certainly seem as though this is going to happen now. I can only think that Green will eventually be ousted and spend the rest of the season on the bench. I can't believe Cesar would be coming if he wasn't assured of playing - similar situation to Friedel and Gomez at Spurs last season.

I suppose Hughes needed to sign a keeper after it was clear Kenny considered QPR a "tin pot club" before leaving for Leeds, but Green could have stayed at West Ham, Cerny could have stepped up and then we could take things from there.

Cesar quote:
"It all started during my summer vacation, when Inter suggested that I reduce my salary.
"No player in my situation would have done that - I am not a hypocrite and I can talk openly about this.
"It became a tough situation for both parties. I then spoke to my representative and I thought this was a good choice."

Was gonna ask how the Sun arrived at giving Green MOTM with Walsall having 2 shots on target.

^ funny that. :)

dont know much about QPR... but i would think that green will be on the bench and then shipped out to Championship in January. Cesar will surely be #1...
Cant see green giving him any competion..

The official word is that it is to create competition for Green. But in reality, you don't really need competition there. Get a good GK and play him. We now have four keepers.

QPR are looking more & more like Portsmouth each signing they make.

I think the Granero deal could be pretty decent on its own merit, but along with all the other big money moves id be seriously worried.

Financially I am not worried, but the signings seem as messy as they were last season with no real cohesion. One thing is for sure, if we aren't climbing the table well by Christmas, Sparky could be Sparko'd the door. After all, Cesar is expecting us to win the title within his time at the club.

Clearly, Fernandes is banking a lot on a new stadium very soon, too.

Perhaps he didn't drop either (which would be a first for Green)

“There’s been a lot written in the press in the last few weeks and this is as good a time as any to set the record straight. We’re not panic-buying; we’re not spending beyond our means; and we’re certainly not throwing money away like some are reporting. We’ve got a very strict and precise business plan in place at this club and any deal we do for a player is well within our budget. We’ve sold or released 14 players this summer and Julio is our ninth arrival. This summer was always going to see a big overhaul in terms of players, but we’ve been very prudent with the deals we’ve done and we’re building for the future. We are clear and forthright in our strategy. We want players who give their everything to the team; want to excel; and want to be part of this venture with us.” - Tony Fernandes

Sorry but I also see QPR as a new Portsmouth. It's a mess and it will stay like that for a while, there is simply no team, just old random "proven" individuals who never played with each other. Just buy available players who have no affinity to QPR in the hope to form a team.

You can't be serious that Cesar was planned already. Surely Green had signed for QPR if he was told he would be their first choice keeper. If Swansea hadn't beaten you guys with 0-5, this transfer wouldn't have happened. Why Granero? I can imagine that the players at present feel that there is no confidence in them with new players coming in so fast. Getting new players is good, but what QPR have done lately is pushing it. What for? It's not like you're playing many games in Europe, right? Don't get me wrong, you guys have made some cracking signings. But to me, this is not building towards a team. I even wonder if Hughes has anything to say about these signings.

Apart from that, QPR spending way too much money in too little time. Perhaps I'll be proven wrong but to me it will be QPR's downfall again. Who knows QPR will buy two more players come tomorrow's deadline. How big is your fanbase? Surely QPR is overdoing it, and I imagine it will backfire and implode. Time will tell, I hope the best for you Jonathan :)

Very well constructed and thought out post, From4corners. However, it doesn't explain the crap comment about my quote from the chairman, but the rest is good stuff.

Regarding the signings. I too agree that the ages of the players signed doesn't smack of "future". However, we do have "future" players already at the club. Taarabt, Faurlin, Onohua, Mackie, Diakite, Ephraim etc etc. Those, together with the experienced existing players and new signings (young and old) can take the first steps of securing a permanent spot in the Premier League.

I have already commented on Cesar. It doesn't make much sense to me, but then would many Premier League clubs have turned him down, whoever they may have just signed? Maybe they are admitting a mistake with Green, or just taking the opportunity to sign a keeper who wasn't available at the time and just biting the bullet?

Every one of these is a Hughes signing - I have no doubt about that, but I have also said there seems no cohesion and, from the outside looking in, it looks haphazard and messy and it will be hard to put together a consistent team for a good few months. I don't necessarily like it, but I would rather be in this position than the one we were in a few years ago, and I don't hold the worry that this will all end in a Portsmouth.

But who knows?

I did also mean to mention that fan base is a proper worry, though. Fernandes has gone on record of wanting a new stadium (Loftus Road capacity is c18,000) of 30,000 or more, but we won't ever get those numbers attending, and if he is basing future revenue on that.....

He is being economical with the truth I think. Was a bit longer ago than that. Think I have read you could eventually get up to £5m based on appearances etc.
