You think Borini will definately be in a starting lineup from the start of the season? Haven't seen friendlies and so, but anyway.
I reckon so - he played in the main game v Gomel in the Europa League and Rodgers knows him.

That is the same team that I predicted (albeit stupidly in the 11/12 thread.....) and nobody laughed too much at it.

Joes update-

Joe Cole - training again after injury
Joe Allen - in contention to play on saturday (why wouldn't he be :? ) and other thoughts from Brendan Rodgers ahead of the game.

Allen will only have had 2 days training with the rest of the team (today/tomorrow). I expect him to play but it's not a given.

James Pearce ‏@JamesPearceEcho
Jose Enrique missing with a swollen knee so Martin Kelly comes in at full-back

(copied that from elsewhere, presume he is Liverpool Echo journo and all genuine)

Johnson is playing at LB, Kelly RB (commentary live on R5 - On Enrique - "we believe he has a knee problem" )

"Oussama Assaidi is not eligible to play in Liverpool's Europa League play-off matches against Hearts.

The Morocco winger, who became the club's third summer signing on Friday, is cup tied having featured for Heerenveen in the qualifying rounds.

However, he will be available should Liverpool reach the group stages."

Enrique has also tw@ttered something about trying to be fit for sunday so presume he won't play either.

JOSE ENRIQUE has been ruled out of Liverpool FC’s trip to Hearts with a knee injury as boss Brendan Rodgers prepares to ring the changes for tomorrow night’s Europa League clash at Tynecastle.

The Spanish left-back still hasn’t recovered from the knock he picked up in training prior to last weekend’s opening Premier League game at West Brom and will remain at Melwood to receive treatment.

Skipper Steven Gerrard, Luis Suarez, Martin Skrtel and Glen Johnson will also stay behind when the squad travel north of the border today. That quartet will be rested....

Oussama Assaidi is Cup tied until the Group stages (provided Liverpool get there) having played for Heerenveen in the last round.

My guess at the starting XI

Reina
Kelly - Agger - Coates - Robinson
Spearing - Allen
Shelvey
Downing - Borini - Sterling

If Rodgers has aspirations of shipping him out, will he want to risk him getting cup tied (given Newcastle are supposedly one of the interested parties)?

Wouldn't he only be cup-tied for qualifiers like Osama?

Assaidi is only eligible for the group stages onwards because Heerenveen have been eliminated. IF Liverpool play Carroll & progress then he becomes ineligible for another team. IF he plays & Liverpool are knocked out, then he could play for another team in Europe this year.

There's no way imo Carroll was injured.

Still can't fathom why Carragher has not been forced to retire and given maybe a coaching role.

Why did Borini play 91 minutes?? Is Rodgers thinking of playing a 5 man midfield on Sunday with Suarez as a lone striker

I eff hope not.. He better play Carroll with Suarez

Anyone can be made to look good on YouTube.

Except Sahin, seemingly. Hollywood balls and some pretty dubious tackling. And 5 replays of a free header.

This from Marca makes interesting reading, for those who think pool have a buy clause.

"Mourinho has entrusted Rodgers with the task of transforming Sahin into the player he wants and needs him to be. The Portuguese coach's former lieutenant at Chelsea is expected to help forge the Turk's character, give him playing time and send him back a new man"

Do think it is incredibly nice of pool to do that for Real  and to pay for the privilege :D

I reckon Carroll will be gone by next Friday and replaced with Dempsey.

Dempsey as a striker attacking midfielder fits bR system better than Carroll.
As much as I like Carroll his first touch is pathetic for a professional footballer

Amused is closer, to me its just crazy, no question good player and yes would have liked him, but not a chance under circumstances that pool have agreed to, its crazy. Honestly thought new owners would have looked at last seasons spending policy and used a bit of sense, it seems not.

If Sahin is the signing which gets us back to the moneypit which is the CL then the loan is very good money spent.
Either way I still believe we have a option to sign him on a perm deal next summer.

Very few world class playmakers in the world.

Pretty sure that was same response I got last season when I thought they had way overpaid for players.
Agree class playmakers are few (at least available one's) thats what in my view makes it even dafter, at best you are spending £9mil on him, if as you hope he does well, you expect Real to let you buy him :D if as could happen he does not do as well as you hope he will then be let go by Real for around lets say£11 mil, so you could hae a player who is not what you need for £20mil and you think thats good way to run club

As others have expressed Mike, mainly bitter Arsenal followers like yourself.

It was a great signing for Arsenal when it looked done and dusted but now he has gone to Liverpool it's a shit signing for Liverpool.

who wants to go to a eff feeder-club who are trophyless at their new stadidum.

Alonso put him rite. C'mon Stoke lets get stuck in.

And you know all the details and nitty gritty of the finer points of the deal- i didn't know Sahin had so many agents tbh.

At the end of the day who gives a eff... seems every Bitter gooner...

one could dig out a hundred complimentary threads about Sahin when Arsenal thought they had him which is funny as originally Liverpool were always favourites.

Liverpools spending policy last season resulted in 2 cup finals and yet ANOTHER TROPHY.

Arsenals spending policy last season resulted in no cup finals and no trophys AGAIN.

BUT it did result in Arsenal once again losing their Talisman and a decent midfielder because they want to win something in their careers.

There are stories that Sahin is viewed as Xabi Alonso's replacement at RM, Mourinho has sent him to England to 'toughen up' & adapt to a more physical game. Next Summer he'll go back to RM & Alonso (with 1 year left on his contract) will return to Liverpool (for a cut price fee).
