Anyone know if Lucas is fit and likely to play? He had an excellent start last season before the injury.

Second friendly in US last night.

Liverpool 1 v 2 Roma

Still all a bit early with lots of kids playing etc to make up numbers and get experience. Roma apparently are fitter after playing several friendlies already. I haven't seen the game but it sounds fairly end to end but was 0-0 for most of game. They got 2 then Charlie Adam pulled one back.

6 England players and Borini may feature v Spurs at weekend as they joined the squad on tuesday.

First game was 1-1 draw with Toronto. Adam Morgan tapping in after good work by Joe Cole and Raheem Sterling.

Was a good game, with some encouraging performances, had sound turned down, so am guessing to an extent, but Pacheco and Shelvey looked good, Stirling seemed to struggle to get into game, but when he did showed potential he has.
The mid and attack side of Rodgers Pool seem to be adapting to new managers tactics, defence still work in progress, but with so many potential starters missing understandable, in my view that will be key to pools season, as (my opinion) Rodgers seems to build most attacks from defence, will players they have be able to do that and as important will it work in prem, at the sharp end of league, for sure they will have a lot of the ball.

I watched the first hour and wondered just what the point was, other than for FSG to make some money from tacky scarves.
Liverpool seemed to play a 4-0-4-1 formation. It looked unfair to the other players to have Spearing giving the ball away in his own half every other time he had it.That position is crucial, so what Rodgers thinks he'll learn from playing Spearing there is beyond me.Surely Spearing was given more than enough rope with which to hang himself last season.

With Lucas (particularly), Gerrard and Adam injured last year Spearing was played more often than we might want. At time he looks like he might be a competent squad player and at other times he looks a bit out of his depth.

I like him but I think I am now resigned to the view that he 'is not Liverpool standard' and should be sold. With the possible excess of midfielders and the links to Joe Allen I would imagine Rodgers agrees with me.

Hence the interest in Joe Allen, with Lucas easing his way back in & the English players (Henderson, Gerrard) only just returning to training Spearing was always going to feature heavily in the first 2 games.

I think Spearing has probably done enough now to be shown the door (either on loan or permanently).

Think he came off injured for them in a friendly the other day. Don't take my word for it though.

For what it is worth, here is ny best guess at what the likely starting XI will be as things stand. Usual caveats about transfers / rotation /possibility of being wrong / shares going up and down:

Reina

Johnson
Skrtel
Agger
Enrique

Lucas
Allen

Downing
Gerrard
Borini

Suarez

Unless they replace Downing, that will be the starting 11 when all fit and fresh.

Pretty much, yes, he's Gerrard's back up & eventually his long term replacement. He could feature heavily from the bench & could cover for Lucas, Allen or Gerrard

Cor bet you racked your brains to come to that hard conclusion.

Stick in A-Nother for Downing if theres a late signing this week though seems a bit late to get Dempsey on board unfortunately.

How's Downing played in pre-season?

He keeps on popping into my thinking. With the player he could be, he's underpriced everywhere.

Scored a great goal in the away leg at Gomel (based on last year he's not due another one until the FA Cup in January  ). He's generally looked bright & inventive & should fit neatly into Rodgers scheme, where he'll be expected to get 6-12 goals & numerous assists. Much depends on whether anyone is signed to play his position. Just under 100 points last year (TFF) he should contribute another 20-30 minimum this year (unless someone is bought/loaned in)

Only got 1 TFF team this year (in a draft league) & someone else picked him. However, I'd hold off selecting him until the transfer window closes, if no-one else comes in & he starts the season well, he could be a good pick.

Given that Dempsey has not featured in a single friendly for Fulham and they lost last friendly before the start of the season to Charlton, then I would hazard a guess that Dempsey will complete his move to Liverpool next week, with possibly Charlie Adam going in the opposite direction.

If Agger stays (Which looks unlikely) especially considering a Liverpool delegation are in Madrid sealing a last minute transfer.
Possibly Godin from Ath Madrid and/or a player from RM on loan possibly Sahin.

With a team as follows

Reina
Johnson
Skrtel
Godin
Enrique
Allen
Lucas
Gerrard
Dempsey
Borini
Suarez

I'm led to believe the defender from Spain we have an interest in is Amorebieta from Bilboa. However, Daniel Agger has no desire to leave, but may be forced out if someone is prepared to pay £20M+. Whether a CB is on the agenda if both Agger & Skrtel stay I don't know, but if Amorebieta/other sign I would anticipate one of them leaving.

Dempsey deal looks to be getting closer (approx. £8Mill) but there is also some interest in Theo Walcott - although this may be Walcott's team trying to get Arsenal to pay the wage he wants.

There are a couple of possibilities for loans, notably Tello & as you say Sahin (interest from Arsenal in Sahin too) - definitely not David Villa

Looks like their is interest in Dorus de Vries to back up Reina (with Jones & Doni on the way out). Although there may be a deal to get Jack Butland & loan him back to Birmingham for a season (after which he would replace/compete with Reina)

I agree with everything you say, most of the info above we have heard from varied sources.
Tello has not been included in the Barca squad for this season and has a year remaining on his contract so could sign for a nominal fee, and would also fit into BR's style of play.

I feel that BR's close connections with Jose will lead to one RM player joining on loan, Mourinho is pushing for Sahin to join us on loan rather than Arsenal due to our not playing in the CL this year and competing with RM and also as a favour to BR.

I'm quite confident about Dempsey joining us, you don't make a **** up like NESV did and announced he joined us without any concrete insider information - I feel we are playing hard ball with Fulham to get him for a cheaper price.

Jack Butland looks a good keeper would have no concerns about that signing, and I feel BR could get a lot more out of Walcott than Wenger can/has (helps that Walcott is a Liverpool fan).

I havent heard much of Amorebieta to be honest but Godin from Ath Madrid has one year left on his contract and Ath Madrid has financial problems so that could be a cheap signing for us.

With the news that Man City owners will give Mancini the money to complete 2 signings next week whatever the cost, I expect Agger to go for approx 25million or 20 million plus Adam Johnson on loan.

You think Borini will definately be in a starting lineup from the start of the season? Haven't seen friendlies and so, but anyway.
