Who is first choice left back for Villa? Warnock or Lichaj? Tough to say with new manager, has anyone seen the pre-season games?

Re: Aston Villa 2012/13 General Chat & Starting X1 Thread
Looks likely to be:
Given
Lowton - Dunne - Clark - Warnock
El Ahmadi
Albrighton/Holman - Ireland - N'Zogbia
Bent - Agbonlahor
If Lambert changes things as much as he did for Norwich however, things could easily change completely.
I'd expect Bent and El Ahmadi to be the only guaranteed starters when fit, though most others are safe options at this stage.
Collins will be off soon and they're actively looking to help him move on.

Cheers Indy. Happy that you've included most of the players I thought would be likely starters.

Dunne now apparently out for 2 months, so things change accordingly.
Assuming that Vlaar has indeed signed (just confirmed I think), then he'll slot straight in alongside Clark with I'm guessing Baker as backup.
Will need to keep an eye on Lowton as well as Hutton could well provide a strong challenge there if Lowton can't adapt to the higher level.

Hutton is finished at Villa. Has been told to find a new club and has been nowhere near the squad since the opening friendly (when Lambert wanted him to prove his fitness for potential buyers).Indy_Bones wrote:Dunne now apparently out for 2 months, so things change accordingly.

Holman? As an Aussie, interested in his chances of regular football ... and goals. CK?

I think he will start like every game with the occasional goal. That said, the players that are safer to start every game would be Given, Vlaar, El Ahmadi, Ireland, and Bent (safest bet to score points!). Just avoid any defender, avoid at all cost.

Re: Aston Villa 2012/13 General Chat & Starting X1 Thread
For tomorrow:
Given
Lowton - Vlaar - Clark - Lichaj
--- El Ahmadi ------ Delph---
N' Zognia - Ireland - Bannan
------------ Bent ------------
When Holman is all fit again, he'll take Bannan's place I think (with Bannan replacing Delph perhaps).

Re: Aston Villa 2012/13 General Chat & Starting X1 Thread
Villa have been linked with a few left backs, namely Martin Olsson of Blackburn. I'd be surprised if we don't sign someone, but if we don't, Baker may keep his spot. FWIW, he really didn't play very well at WH, so I think Lichaj still has a shot.plasticninja wrote:Bit of a shock Baker starting at LB whats the verdict, will he keep his place?

Think he was touching up his bedroom and buying some more guppies for his fishtank.
Then he had an appointment to get a few more feathers added.

Rumoured to be the next Jack Wilshire.
Not sure why Villa would let him join Arsenal though especially as they are a team who gives youth a chance.
