Re: Swansea 2013/14 General Chat & Starting XI Thread
Apparently Jamie Redknapp is tipping Swansea to finish in the top 6 and thinks they are an outside bet for the top 4.
Does Redknapp read FISO ?, i reported on this very thread at the beginning of July that ''Some people are asking can the Swans make top 6 ?'', now top 4 is being mentioned....hmm....

1, Redknapp is a numpty.
2, You have the EL to contend with, and Laudrup appears to want to take this seriously.
I would say top half and a run in the EL would be a step up; anything more would be very impressive.

Sounds like he might have checked the odds actually because he talks about a points bet on the Swans and to make a comment like that you would need to know how many points the bookies think the Swans will get, so who knows.Achiles74 wrote:trampie wrote:Apparently Jamie Redknapp is tipping Swansea to finish in the top 6 and thinks they are an outside bet for the top 4.

Re: Swansea 2013/14 General Chat & Starting XI Thread
given Swansea's Europe playoff 2nd leg on 30th August, I assume their Prem match vs WBA on 31st August will be rescheduled.
Where is the best place to get definitive and quick updates on schedule changes? BBC? Barclays Premiership website? I'm sure they're both accurate, but are they the quickest source?

Once they are confirmed they will be on those sites. A club's own website is usually pretty prompt if you are after details on a specific match.AgentGinger wrote:given Swansea's Europe playoff 2nd leg on 30th August, I assume their Prem match vs WBA on 31st August will be rescheduled.

As soon as any game gets moved it is usually spotted promptly by FISO and noted here.
PS Are you sure it is the 30th, that is a Friday. Most Europa games are Thursday meaning the league games get shifted to sunday(/Monday)
EDIT UEFA say it is Thursday 29th

Re: Swansea 2013/14 General Chat & Starting XI Thread
I think it was Clarke Carlisle summarising for ITV sport on the Malmo v Swansea game last night, whoever the summariser was talked about the expectations of a top 6 finish for swansea won't be too far of the mark.
There are a lot of people in and around the game seem to be expecting quite big things from the Swans in the Premier League this season.

I reckon you should do well - when researching yesterday I noticed you can get 2/1 on you finishing top 10. Seems like great value to me.trampie wrote:I think it was Clarke Carlisle summarising for ITV sport on the Malmo v Swansea game last night, who ever the summariser was talked about the expectations of a top 6 finish for swansea won't be too far of the mark.

Re: Swansea 2013/14 General Chat & Starting XI Thread
I'm just about to check the odds myself, that does seem good odds, no guarantee of course for a variety of reasons but all things being equal that seems a value bet, i was told yesterday that at one point Swansea was 100-1 for a top 6 finish, the person checked when talking to me on their phone and they were down to 20-1 with the same bookie that had previously offered 100-1.murf wrote:I reckon you should do well - when researching yesterday I noticed you can get 2/1 on you finishing top 10. People are starting to realise that Swansea have not got a bad team [at this point in time at least].

Re: Swansea 2013/14 General Chat & Starting XI Thread
The big 6 clubs are almost guaranteed to finish top 10 (probably 1-6 or near enough but almost certainly not 11th or lower - Liverpool had a poor season but still cruised to 7th, miles ahead of 8th (and hence 11th)).
It basically means 14 teams are fighting for the 4 remaining top 10 spots. 4 in 14 is slightly bigger odds than 2/1 but you have to take other stuff into account and Swansea are as good as any IMO. OK, the likes of Everton will be favourites but at the other end Hull and Palace are unlikely to be up there.

Re: Swansea 2013/14 General Chat & Starting XI Thread
Swansea clearly have a pretty good squad this season, and notwithstanding the fact that it has greater depth than last year, I wouldn't dream of putting any money on them this season. It seems to me that the current prices available already factor in the higher expectations, but more importantly, the first year in the Europa League historically has a significantly adverse effect on Premiership performance. Most people say that they recognise this, but then go and bet on them at a price similar to the one which would have been available if they hadn't qualified for Europe.
I'd actually be more interested in having a Premiership bet on them if they were to be eliminated early from the Europa. That combined with a limited haul of points from their difficult early fixtures, might make them a more attractive punt. If on the other hand they get off to a blinding start, which is not impossible, they will become a boat which I will have missed and which will remain missed.

No de Guzman?
I only caught the end of the first half, and the second. Did you have a wide right forward before Dyer(?) came on?
Who would be your FF pick: Dyer or Hernandez?

Re: Swansea 2013/14 General Chat & Starting XI Thread
Pre season Shelvey has been far more effective that JDG so I think he will start. Therei s only 1 CM place available as Britton and Michu will definitely start.
Pablo has been injured for last 2 games but if fit will start and I fancy him to have a good season. Decent FF option imo.
Dyer and Routledge competing for the other wide berth although Pozuelo played there last night-at least nominally but he kept drifting inside taking Michu's space. In my view he is not a real wide option and is competing with Michu so probably Pozueol will mainly be used from the bench.

I would personally probably have Dyer in for Routledge and De Guzman in for Britton at this stage, but that's my guess for the Swans team against Man Utd [watch out for any late injuries].

Re: Swansea 2013/14 General Chat & Starting XI Thread
I only saw the first 15 mins of Swansea v Man Utd on tv due to work commitments and then heard the next 15 mins on the radio, that period was totally dominated by the Swans who played really well during that time, if they has scored first then i'm sure the result would have been different, even at the end of the match Swansea had more shots, more possession and more corners than Man Utd, footballs a funny game as they say.

Re: Swansea 2013/14 General Chat & Starting XI Thread
I was asked weeks ago what i thought he was worth at this point in time and said 25million, so i will have to stick to that, i would not look to sell him at this stage as the Swans are trying to improve and build a team, Swansea would be unlikely to replace him with another player even with a potential 25 million to spend, so no sale for me, but 25million would be very tempting and i would understand if he was sold for that price.Achiles74 wrote:Trampie - Is Michu worth more than the rumoured 24million Arsenal are planning to bid for him in your opinion?
