Re: Southampton 2013/14 General Chat & Starting XI Thread
So here are the current transfer rumours as summarised in the Echo (local rag) yesterday
Moving to Saints
Not sure of the source of the Daily Mail rumours - from the names on the list I would suspect it owes much to a random name generating machine:
Radja Nainggolan, Frickson Erazo, Gonzalo Bueno, Esteban Granero par example.
•Davide Astori - £10m - Daily Mail
•Scott Sinclair - ? - The Sun
•Jose Enrique - £5m - Liverpool Echo
•Cheikhou Kouyate - ? - Daily Express
•Frickson Erazo - ? - Daily Mail
•Jesus Gamez - ? - Daily Mirror
•Victor Wanyama - £10m - Daily Mirror

•Luca Antonelli - €6m - Calciomercato
•Gonzalo Bueno - £8m - Daily Mail
•Dejan Lovren - £12m - Daily Mail

And just as flakily
The leavers

Re: Saints sack Adkins
Reports up here suggesting Southampton have agreed a £10m deal for Wanyama
Look after Big Vic for us. Tremendous signing if true, thought he would sign for a bigger club but I honestly think Southampton are going places at the moment and it is a good move for him. I'll predict he'll impress down there and within 2 years will be at a top 4 club.
With Boruc and potentially Wanyama down there I'm fast becoming a bit of a Southampton fan next season

Done deal: http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/22969633" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;. £12.5m seems quite a lot lower than predicted which is good (for us).Billy Stark wrote:Reports up here suggesting Southampton have agreed a £10m deal for Wanyama
I'm still trying to find an article about him saying it's a dream to play for Southampton but haven't been able to yet.

Re: Southampton 2013/14 General Chat & Starting XI Thread
Saints pre season kicked off Wednesday I think 21 players played in the match (againsy Spanish 3rd tier side UE Llagostera).
They won 2-1. The only interesting thing to note is that Rodriguez scored both goals.

This is close to my idea- but I'm certain Schneiderlin plays when fit. I think Puncheon is most likely not to play from your XI, but Lallana and Ramirez are also not 100% certs going on the end of last season...Knulpuk wrote:A Boruc

I'd go for the following in a 4-2-3-1 (who plays 4-4-2 these days?!)
Boruc
Shaw
Yoshida
Lovren
Clyne
Wanyama
Schneiderlin
Lallana
Ramirez
Rodriguez
Lambert

Looks nailed on that you'll start with that back 4? Thought you'd bought a new LB?jonesbones wrote:This is close to my idea- but I'm certain Schneiderlin plays when fit. Assuming Lambert isn't gonna find himself with any rotation dangers?

Re: Southampton 2013/14 General Chat & Starting XI Thread
I am not so certain over Schneiderlin - as a defensive midfielder I think he will lose game time to Wanyama who plays in the same position. 2 defensive midfielders in one team - probably not, maybe he will play one of them more expansively.
I think we bought Forren (CB) last year in defence but I think he has moved on without ever donning a shirt. I think the common back 4 will pretty much start eash game but expect Fox to cover for Shaw a bit.

I'm interested to know how the fans think Rodriguez will get on this season. Looks great value for 6.0 in FPL.

I vaguely recall either Shaw or Clyne was injured - was I hallucinating? Will both play the opening games?

Re: Southampton 2013/14 General Chat & Starting XI Thread
Shaw is developing a habit of picking up injuries just before England U21 games. But those at the game said "it looked bad"... However, you must note that Saints fans are instinctively pessimistic & one thing that you can be sure of is that you will not get any info from the club about injuries.Sciolist wrote:I vaguely recall either Shaw or Clyne was injured - was I hallucinating? Clyne is in my current draught, he's rumoured be closer to fitness but not nailed on. Over the season, I think Shaw will outscore Clyne.

Re: Southampton 2013/14 General Chat & Starting XI Thread
I think it will be Cork that will make way for Wanyama and then there is JWP, Davis & Isgroves fighting for a spot/taking minutes in a similar position. I posted the following on another section of fiso...Knulpuk wrote:I am not so certain over Schneiderlin - as a defensive midfielder I think he will lose game time to Wanyama
Lambert is in my team - nailed on, takes pen's, free kicks & some corners. Mr Southampton. Hope the England callup doesn't distract him.westofshannonsaint wrote:
I think Morgan Schneiderlin (£5.5) could be a real bargain. He scored 3 times in the final 13 games last season & he scored (*afaik*) twice in pre season friendlies. Before Pochettino Morgan scored 5 goals for Saints in 133 appearances. He does pick up a few cards but it is very rare when they are red & I think the new Bonus point system could suit him.
...........
In Goal - Boruc, imo, is nailed on to start & good value @ £4.5. He's settledl & Saints have strengthened in defence (only new signings are Lovren & Wanyama). *Surprised that Davis has such a high ownership*.....

Re: Southampton 2013/14 General Chat & Starting XI Thread
Per the official website:
All of the Saints players who departed for international duty are due to link back up with the club ahead of the weekend. Artur Boruc, Rickie Lambert, Steven Davis, Maya Yoshida, Gastón Ramírez and Emmanuel Mayuka are all set to return for the trip north.
Nathaniel Clyne and Luke Shaw have trained this week, with Mauricio Pochettino hopeful of having them involved. Clyne has been out for the last three weeks, while Shaw picked up a knee injury during last Saturday's friendly win over Real Sociedad.
Best guess: I would expect Shaw to be involved as a sub and Clyne to miss the first week.
Ramirez not injured as I understand it.
Wanyama - not set world alight but its his price tag rather than form that will see him turn out.

Re: Southampton 2013/14 General Chat & Starting XI Thread
In my squad ATM (& will start the season - in MY team) = Shaw, Schneiderlin & sir Rickie Lambert. If I had room I would bring in Boruc.fred1266 wrote:ok looking for a player who you all recommmend

I do try not to be biased. Last season I gained many point's captaining/bringing in players that were playing against saints. Clyne was my only season long player & did a very good job (for a cheap defender). Lambert was a mainly in my squad, but transferred out if missing a game. Other players (Puncheon, Lallana, Ramirez) were used as enablers. From an FPL point of view I think there is great value in Saints this year.
Also I am stunned by the amount of players that has K.Davis in their team = madness, with all respect to the man, he'll be fighting for a place on the bench.

Just found this thread.
@Billy stark - Celtic and Saints sounds good to me , I always preferred Celtic to Rangers no idea why.
Osvaldo is a real statement of intent, the Saints are going places! 4 academy players on Sat mixed in with some quality signings, rumour has it MP was pivotal in making transfer happen as he managed him at Espanyol and of course both are Argentinian.
The future is bright the future is red and "a bit of" white.

Played in the Confeds cup, missed most of pre season now has to win back his place, Fonte scoring yesterday to rescue a point won't help. He should be 1st choice alongside Lovren but my advice get rid.Number 9 wrote:any 1 know what's happening with yoshida. Not even on the bench for the first 2 matches. Shaw and Spider had been struggling during the week and were taken off as precautions at HT so aren't considered serious.
And before anyone asks I'm expecting Osvaldo AND Lambert to play together at the expense of J Rod.
