Or Shelvey gone on a free to Swansea and Ashley Williams to us for 4million in the next few days.

Preston 0 v 4 Liverpool

First friendly of the year won comfortably. Pretty much a different side each half (Mignolet played 77 mins). I haven't seen much of the game so can't comment properly.

1st half: Mignolet, Flannagan(LB), Agger(c), Toure, Spearing(RB), Henderson, Allen, Assaidi, Borini, Ibe, Coutinho.
2nd half: Mignolet (Ward 77), Johnson, Skrtel, Wisdom, Robinson (Kelly 81), Lucas(c), Alberto, Pacheco, Aspas, Sterling, Downing.

13 GOAL! Philippe Coutinho: Coutinho rolls the ball home from 12 yards. Liverpool deservedly lead here and it's the Brazilian schemer who puts them ahead. He was fouled in the box for the penalty - and he grabbed the ball immediately to take the shot
36 GOAL! Jordon Ibe: Ibe cuts in from the left and hammers a low shot past Rudd for 2-0
64 GOAL! Raheem Sterling: The youngster breaks clear of the Preston defence, rounds the 'keeper and rolls the ball home - beautiful through ball by Aspas.
75 GOAL! Iago Aspas: The Reds' new forward fires one in from the edge of the box - what a strike!

Missing-
1. Jones
3. Enrique
7. Suarez
8. Gerrard
15. Sturridge
16. Coates
25. Reina
35. Coady
36. Yesil
43. McLaughlin
45. Sama
48. Sinclair
50. Morgan
51. Jones

27 man touring squad:

Jones, Mignolet, Reina/Ward
Johnson, Enrique, Toure, Agger, Kelly, Skrtel, Flanagan, Wisdom, Robinson, Coates.
Alberto, Gerrard, Coutinho, Assaidi, Henderson, Downing, Spearing, Lucas, Allen, Ibe, Sterling.
Aspas, Borini, Suarez.

(slightly confused as some, inc our Uruguayans, are still on holiday, must be joining up mid tour)

Pacheco was originally named in a 28 man squad but has since been pulled and tweeted semi-mysteriously about his future being sorted out (I presume he is being sold)

Only big name missing is Sturridge who is still recovering from injury. Surprising lack of kids, only Ibe being taken.

EDIT - Ward replaced Reina following discussions with Napoli

Apparently Suarez has a £40m Release Clause according to Auntie's gossip page, quoting The Bun.

Been said for a while but others sources have also denied it for a while. That rag always loves to stir re Liverpool so is best ignored.

Left back.

Haven't seen the game yet but he lined up there in a fairly strong (verging on 'first choice') starting XI today.

Apols for the confusing around Pacheco, I had seen a report stating he'd been released (which has since mysteriously vanished - pulled by Liverpool maybe?).

Looks now like a loan to Celta Vigo is on the cards with a view to a perm move if the loan is a success.

Indonesia XI 0 v 2 Liverpool

Second friendly of the year, again won with a CS. Seemed a near 'first choice' team in first half, many playing for 65 mins but those newer back only playing 45. Mignolet playing 90. I only saw about 10 minutes near end, super second goal on counter attack.

Mignolet,
Johnson (Kelly 65), Enrique (Robinson 45), Agger (Skrtel 65), Toure (Wisdom 65),
Lucas (Henderson 65), Gerrard (Allen 45)
Alberto (Sterling 65), Downing (Ibe 65), Coutinho (Assaidi 65),
Aspas (Borini 65).

Unused subs: Jones (slight injury), Spearing, Flanagan.

9 GOAL! Philippe Coutinho: The Brazilian bursts into the penalty area and rolls the ball home for 1-0
87 GOAL! Raheem Sterling: The youngster taps home the Reds' second after great work from Ibe (superb bursting run) and Assaidi (selfless pass)

Only missing Suarez and Coates from travelling squad and they have just joined up in Oz and could play tomorrow (Weds). Ward has now travelled out as 3rd keeper replacing Reina.

Melbourne Victory XI 0 v 2 Liverpool

Another friendly, another win, another CS.

Most starters played for 72 minutes. Gerrard went off after 63 and the remaining 10 all swapped at 72.

Liverpool (0-72 mins): Jones, Johnson, Skrtel, Wisdom, Enrique, Gerrard (Lucas 63), Allen, Henderson, Ibe, Sterling, Borini.

Liverpool (72-92 mins): Mignolet, Kelly, Coates, Agger, Flanagan, Spearing, Lucas, Downing, Alberto, Aspas, Suarez.

Subs not used: Robinson, Assaidi.

AWOLS: "Kolo Toure is out with a tight calf; Philippe Coutinho with a training ground knock. Neither serious"
(also no Ward)

31 GOAL! Steven Gerrard: The skipper caps a fantastic move from the Reds to open the scoring. Sterling work in defence, Gerrard steps over a ball out wide, Allen fires it backs across and Gerrard hits it first time form 12 yards. Nice finish.
92 GOAL! Iago Aspas: The Spaniard taps home after fine work from Suarez. Usual Suarez move along the goal line of knocking it past defender into box then passing it across.

Goal tally:
Coutinho 2
Sterling 2
Aspas 2
Ibe 1
Gerrard 1

Has anyone got any thoughts on who is going to partner Agger in central defence? Kolo Toure or Skrtel? I know Skrtel was out of favour towards the back end of last season but was that due to Carragher's good form or Skrtel's bad form?

True, but he was free. The fantasy premierleague site seem to disagree as they've got Skrtel at 5.5 and Toure at 5 mil. They could well be wrong though and if they are it makes Toure very appealing.

Against Thailand Toure is again favoured before Skrtel in what looks like a settled back 4. Couthino gifted the ball but a superb individual goal from him for the first. A nice steady stream if anyone's interested.

Thailand 0 v 3 Liverpool

Yet another friendly, yet another win, yet another CS. P4 W4 D0 L0 F11 A0. Not bad.

Some now playing for 90 minutes, all the new signings getting game time and some 'favourites' starting to appear

Liverpool: Mignolet, Enrique, Agger, Toure (Skrtel 68), Johnson, Lucas, Allen (Alberto 79), Gerrard, Coutinho (Henderson 68), Aspas (Suarez 61), Borini (Ibe 61).

Not used: Jones, Kelly, Flanagan, Spearing, Wisdom, Robinson, Downing, Sterling, Coates, Assaidi, Ward.

16 GOAL! Philippe Coutinho: The Brazilian skips through multiple challenges before calmly tucking the ball into the corner of the net. It was a nice goal.
49 GOAL! Iago Aspas: The Spaniard side-foots past Thailand's 'keeper after a pinpoint pass by Coutinho.
59 GOAL! Steven Gerrard: The skipper cleverly chips the ball over the Thailand 'keeper after Aspas drew the custodian out of his net and teed the Reds captain up.
Article with videos of goals

Goal tally:
Coutinho 3
Aspas 3
Sterling 2
Gerrard 2
Ibe 1

Jack Robinson is the latest youngster to go out on long term loan. Think that makes it more likely we will be getting in senior LB cover for Enrique (several linked).
