Re: Liverpool General Chat & Starting XI Thread
Good workout yesterday at Wigan with the youngsters playing to impress and the regulars gaining some match fitness. Coutinho hit the woodwork twice in the first 15 minutes and 2 second half goals by Ings and the 16 year old Woodburn wrapped the game up for the Reds.
One thing that continues to amaze me is the amount of fans who congregate in the bar area under the stands while the match is on. Drinking, singing and letting off flares rather than watching the match.
The flares continues in the East stand throughout the second half and it scared a few kids and choked a lot of other supporters! I just don't get it!

What do Liverpool fans think of the Georginio Wijnaldum signing?
Good player, but a bit like Arsenal, do you need yet another [wide] attacking mid??

The Welsh Xavi has finally gone for £ 13 million. Just Milner, Henderson and Llalana to go.Subsonic wrote:Reported in the Metro and Daily Star that Swansea are keen on resigning Joe Allen for £8 million. Re: Liverpool General Chat & Starting XI Thread
Just thought I'd throw in my predicted starting line up.
I've watched most of the friendlies and reckon we will line up something like this.
Mignolet
Clyne-Klavan-Lovren-Moreno
Can-Winjaldum
Mane-Firmino-Coutinho
Sturridge
Other players;
Karius - Injured, will be first choice when back
Matip - Will partner Lovren when back from Injury
Moreno's replacement - There should be a new left back signing, whether its Willems, De Sciglio (insert rumour here)
Henderson - Doesn't look to be a favourite for Klopp, can't seem him starting when Winjaldum does his job better.
Lallana - Linked fairly well in some of the friendlies, can't seem him starting but definitely super sub material, few stray passes etc in recent games
Milner - A possibility to start when more experience and defensive responsibility is needed
Ojo + Markovic - Both looking sharp and up for it, quite a lot of darts into box.
Brannagan - Looking confident on the ball and been good with set pieces, unlikely to feature but one to keep and eye on.
Origi - Will be playing second fiddle to Sturridge, until the inevitable injuries set in.
Ings - Playing positive football, but better options out there (firimino/mane false 9's)

Origi not in the squad for this morning's friendly, and Benteke was an unused sub.

Only thing I would say is, could play 4-3-3 with Henderson coming in for some games.

Re: RE: Re: Liverpool General Chat & Starting XI Thread
Not much to be read into the actual team as there were 10 changes at HT. Only Wijno staying on. Lost 2-1. Ojo scored a header from Lovren knock down from Milner corner. Not seen game yet so can't say any more.bspittles wrote:Origi not in the squad for this morning's friendly, and Benteke was an unused sub.
Moreno picked up a dead leg but Klopp said all ok. Tour over. 2 friendlies left back at home now. Barce and Mainz.

Re: Liverpool General Chat & Starting XI Thread
So coming to the end of the 16/17 season & the mighty reds are 2 wins from CL football next season.
The fact is that qualifying in the top 4 should be a given every season for a team of liverpools stature but ultimatatly in recent seasons that has not been the case.
Really we should be pushing to the wire to be champions & its about time we had a team capable of doing that
Below is how i would like to see us line up next season (17/18) to have a chance of doing just that....time to splash the cash Jurgen.
......................................Butland
..........Clyne.........Matip........Van Dijk........Sessegnon
........................Henderson.......Casimeiro
................Mane...........Coutinho...........Firmino
.................................Aubamayang
Optimistic i know & yes i know Sessegnon is only 17 but if your good enough, your old enough & this kids class, but if not the above there is room for tweaks....instead of Casimiero....William Carvalho
................instead of Aubamayang....Lacazzette or Icardi
& possibly Lallana in Hendersons place(if that fits the system??)
Here's hoping anyway

Re: Liverpool General Chat & Starting XI Thread
Think young Sessegnon is a bit young to be a starter in a championship challenging side, don't not too much about him other than reputation but he is young and inexperienced. Don't know enough about Aubawotsit either but I think Jurgen's 433 has proven, ultimately, to be a failure against bus parkers and we do really need to play with a real striker who suits Jurgen's style (Sturridge clearly doesn't (unfortunately - great player) and Origi is just not quite good enough).
but that all looks a bit too attacking to me. Not sure what formation we should play but I can't see much wrong with trying 3 CBs and wing backs if playing with attackers like Coutinho/Mane/Firmino who aren't really wide men and no Lucas-style defensive midfielder.
Bit harsh on Lallana to leave him out, maybe Milner and Can too. Also think Wijnaldum has done OK but maybe not good enough to be a starter.
All depends on whether we get CL and can attract the biggest names (/finally get the yank cheque book dusted down).

Re: Liverpool General Chat & Starting XI Thread
Casimiero plays DM for Real Madrid & been quoted as possibly their most important player this season for the way he breaks up play (like Ngolo Kante has for Chelsea)& at the same time could still be up for sale this summer?? if not,William Carvalho plays same position & again has been quoted as being one of the major reasons why Portugal won euro 2016.murf wrote: no Lucas-style defensive midfielder.

Re: Liverpool General Chat & Starting XI Thread
Not sure Jurgen would agree but I think we need a reliable DM or 3 CBs. I agree with your Dick Van Dyke call though. I know we are raiding Saints again(!) and he will be highly priced but he really looks the business and seems to have a calm dominance. Matip is calm and solid but doesn't seem to dominate a defence like, say, Hyypia or John Terry did.lfc71 wrote:Casimiero plays DM for Real Madrid & been quoted as possibly their most important player this season for the way he breaks up play (like Ngolo Kante has for Chelsea)& at the same time could still be up for sale this summer?? if not,William Carvalho plays same position & again has been quoted as being one of the major reasons why Portugal won euro 2016.murf wrote: no Lucas-style defensive midfielder.
CB - Van Dike
LB - Not sure who, maybe keep Milner there while developing Sessegnon??
DM - Carvalho, Casimiero??
CF - left field pick of Aguero!!
There you go, need just 4 top buys. Simples!!
(I'd like to think Karius will come good but happy to let him go for big money if Jurgen sees that as best. Not sure Butland is that good or even the linked Pickford. I know Hart has been dismissed but I rate him as an imposing keeper and shot stopper even if his decision making can be dodgy, ie, palming shots back out into danger zones. I'd buy him if selling Karius or Mignolet)

2 weeks after my last post & of course linked with more players(as is always gonna be the case over the next 2/3 months)although apparently klopp not now after a keeper??
Given the latest possible recruits we've been linked with....gotta say i very much like this team .... (even though i'm not keen on Henderson,i'd rather have Can,but gotta have some english).... however unlikley it may be....
.....................................Mignolet
.............Clyne.......Matip........Van Dijk.......Mendy

..........................Keita................Coutinho
..................Salah........Aubamayang........Mane
Gives a strong bench of...
Karius,Lovren,Can,Milner,Winaljdum,Lallana,Firmino (don't think Sturridge will be with us??)
