Fair enough pre season point take

Oxlaide chamberlain was out this universe

And I would rather this than drawing with a Singapore select 11 or losing 4-2 to a bunch of yanks...

A fair bit of hyperbole was flying around this time last year when we beat Benfica 5-1, a striker called Sanago scored 4 and had comparisons with Anelka.
So good to see its mostly a cooler reaction to todays game.
We did hit a really good patch though, no denying that.
Watching the Wolfsburg game in club level tomorrow, hobnobbing it for a change.
Ticket cost £45 with a programme and a beer thrown in (I think) only £16 more than upper level so not too bad.
Compare that £45 price (for 2 games) with £189 for the exact same seat (half way line) for the West Ham PL game. Not a chance in hell I would pay that much to watch my beloved team.

Monreal has improved so must be first choice, Gibbs is still prone to getting caught out of position though neither are high on their international coaches agendas.
I was particularly interested in how Walcott played yesterday, as its fantasy football time again.
Despite scoring I was not too overawed with his contribution, still looks out of position playing central, lacks the physique and presence of even Giroud let alone a potential Benzema. There was one decent chance he had in the first half, almost away from the defender but didn't do the basic skill of getting himself between defender and ball and the tackle duly arrived.
He took his goal well, as Wolfsburg got caught on a break, but generally teams facing us sit back and don't easily get caught pushing up.
He may not get that amount of time and space in a competitive game, and where was the blistering pace he was once famous for?
If it was a choice for our current best option for central striker its Giroud, simply because he can hold and shield the ball better, if its for playing on the right its AOC, he uses his pace well and takes on fullbacks, injuries permitting.

Is Bellerin likely to be in the starting XI?

Walcott, will he be first choice? Seen a lot choosing him but surely the likes of Ozil and Ramsey are ahead of him?

Do think it a stretch for any to claim they know that Wallcott , Ramsey, Ox or Wilshere are nailed on at this time, to me you can make a case for any 2 to start season, this from Afc site

"Arsène Wenger says Jack Wilshere will show his “top-class potential” with a consistent run of games.
The England international has been in fine form during an exciting pre-season campaign in which the Gunners have won all four of their matches."

Reading that sounds that Jack will start, but just my view think Ramsey more likely, Ozil will start and to me Wallcott could take other spot, but Ox has looked a better bet based on form and just dont see Walcott getting games in front of Giroud.
Did think Monreal would go back to Spain, but now looks to be staying so would be surprised if Fb's are not him and Bellarin, most see Mert and Kos as sure, still think Mert is under pressure expect w/e game to show our back line and probably mid for first game

You can discount Arteta and Flamini, unless we get ravaged by training injuries.
Coquelin is nailed on being the only true capable defensive midfielder.
Wilshere is doubtful, so for now its probably from left to right, Ozil, Carzola, Ramsey, Coquelin (all bankers), and the right side, Ox.
The problem is Walcott, he thinks he is a striker, but if Wenger wants to start with the better physical presence of Giroud, he may well get on the right side replacing Ox.
When Jack is fit he can really only be the cover for Ramsey.
Carzola, Ramsey, and Coquelin usually play the whole game.
Ozil, Giroud, Ox are the regulars for coming off on 65-70 mins.
Luckily, we don't need to consider Alexis just yet.

I think most would agree Ox was impressive at Wembley, and on the Sunday of the Emirates cup, that was playing in Walcott's 'old' position.
Only a personal opinion but if a team are sitting deep and marking tight, as I expect West Ham to be, Walcott, if playing central will be missing in action.
Giroud knows how to hold the ball up, hold off defenders, and bring players like Ozil & Ramsey into the game.

Lots of talk about Arsenal winning the Premiership - even in this neck of the woods, where our regional paper syndicate has them on top after an extensive preview!

Given above-average luck with injuries (Wiltshire, not a good start) and a dedicated strategy, this might be achievable. However, to my mind, that would probably mean de-prioritizing the unwinnable Champions League - which might not be popular with everyone. What do the Gooners on here think?

Agree with most, but do think Walcott will start on left, with Ramsey on right. Lot of papers and some on here see Ramsey playing with Coquelin, dont see that at all only time can remember him doing that in first half against Lyon when Caz was not on pitch, for sure did not do it in any of last 10 games last season, that Lyon 45 min was only time can think of him playing that role for a fair while, why would Wenger change something that works, our width comes from FB's not conventional wingers.

Don't say I didn't warn you about Walcott.
Bellerin injury has caught me out though, but still think he will be ahead of Debuchy, unless he bags a hat trick today.

Lost the title on day 1. Bunch of highly talented good time charlies who thought they could stroll through the game at 80%. See you in the top four in May as usual after usual AW post Christmas motivation. Shame he didn't start before this game.

Walcott is still considered by some to be a striker, Welbeck may be around 2 weeks from training, and if push comes to shove Wenger would have no hesitation in sticking Alexis up top.
History tells you we will not be desperate for a 4th striker, when our system requires just one at the most.

Brilliant put down of Le Ditherer from Anthony Martial's agent, Philippe Lamboley
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/footba ... n-him.html
"I am surprised by the analysis of Arsene Wenger, who has apparently been following him since he was a teenager. Anthony is a true modern centre-forward who can play a part. If the analysis Arsene Wenger has made is in order to justify not having signed Anthony, I accept he is a winger. But in football, there are those who follow players and those who buy them,"

Can't believe this thread went through transfer deadline day without the much quoted stat Arsenal were the only team in the major European leagues not to sign a first team outfield player. So have corrected that!

I sometimes wish Groomy was still here to hear his ever shifting justifications.

Disappointing to see demented Gooners vandalizing WHL after Arsenal won what was, with the odd exception, a reserve team game in the week. Maybe they're just Jack Wilshire's relatives?

Couldn't agree more, it was disgraceful behaviour. Letting down a great club (manager excepted), and in the process probably earning themselves a lengthy football ban.
With CCTV everywhere, police surveillance cameras, and Sky having a dozen cameras did they imagine they could get away with it? or they would be looked on as a few larrikins having a bit of good natured mischief.
