I'll watch the Xmas 'special', probably in January when I have the free time and make my decision then as to whether to continue watching it or not.

Might give the special a go and take it from there. Problem is we always watch it as a family and my daughter is definitely opting out. :(

Both John Simm and Michelle Gomez as the Master and Missy respectively made the episodes that they featured in more interesting than whoever was playing the Doctor at the time did, not sure about anyone else but I wanted them to win!

Not upset (or mediocre  ) about the Doc being a woman per se, as I keep saying it is only a kids show I should have given up on years ago. More upset about the way the world is going with the holier than thou smug guardianistas getting their way again and again.

Why not just start a completely new series about a female time lord??? Plenty of male (super)heroes who didn't change but instead they just created additional female ones, starting with the Bionic Woman of my youth.

Missy/ The Master were great characters, apparently killed off, but not for the first time!

Missy was a great character but didn't need to be the Master reincarnated (other than to tee us up for the Doctor going transgender)

True, she could have been a regeneration of The Rani and still played more or less the same role.

2 episodes in, and I'm enjoying the new series. It looks fantastic, with ep 2 looking as good as the big US shows (Game of thrones etc), and I'm liking the straightforward storytelling which was lost under Moffat.

Anyone else still watching?

I'm still watching but what have they done to the theme tune? It's a rubbish version.

She's better than Capaldi, Eccleston & Smith.

Not quite up to Tennant standards IMO but there's time

I find myself watching it more now that it's switched to the old Songs of Praise slot, which used to be the prompt for me to switch R5Live on for the footie phone in. Some people aren't happy about the switch from Saturday night though.

I like her and she is playing it well so you can forget the male doctor fuss BUT she doesn't have the 'gravitas' of recent doctors (not only due to her sex - though that may be a small part on a subconscious level). I wouldn't follow her and let her assume control which is what most storylines hinge on. "Trust me I'm a Doctor". Naaa...

2 episodes so far have seemed more kiddy than usual. Also 3 assistants is too many. Said it before but I may well give up if it doesn't improve.

I think she is okay and have always liked the other stuff she is in. I'm enjoying the episodes but find myself watching it as if she is another doctor altogether rather than a regeneration of the previous ones. :?

...which is how they should have done it. The Bionic Man didn't have another op and become the Bionic Woman, she was a different person altogether like Supergirl etc.

Just imagining the fuss if a female hero became male...

I like the episodes so far. I think she does a good job of conveying someone trying to find their feet. Her accent makes me think of the Chuckle Brothers at times. Agree, there are too many assistants, big fan of Bradley Walsh though.

I thought Doctor Who really lost it's way with Stephen Moffat at the helm, it was too convoluted and complicated. Doctor Foster pretending to be the TARDIS was a real low point in my opinion, so I should have known what to expect, even though it was critically acclaimed, it wasn't for me. Hopefully this series was have simpler, more entertaining storylines.

I should hate Bradley Walsh but he is a good actor, great in Law and Order UK and liked him in Corrie back in the day when it was alright. Not sure he (or his character) is right for this though. Needs more fleshing out but the other two need it more.

I think he will settle into the role and flesh it out himself once he is comfortable, possibly introduce more of his own personality into it which wouldn't be a bad thing. I agree he is a pretty good actor he was brilliant as the psychotic builder in the Lock, Stock TV series.

No comments for a couple of months, I'm finding this very difficult to get into, the writing and story lines are weak, very much doubt any of her predecessors could have carried this rubbish.

It's taken me 2 or 3 goes on catch up to watch some episodes, tried again today, just can't watch them, boring twaddle. No surprise that there's no Xmas special, people simply wouldn't watch. A nearly 60 years old series is being destroyed by those now in control, can't be financial as it has been a money spinner for the BBC up to now. Whether it's Jodie Whittaker or the way her character has been written, I don't know, but it is not engaging at all, the character is weak and does a disservice to all those that have gone before. Maybe another 15-20 year break before it gets another go as a result?

What he said. More writers fault than Jodie W's. She is the latter day Sylvester McCoy.

Getting more viewers than the previous four seasons and standing up pretty well against any season since it’s relaunch in 2005.

Perhaps it’s target audience isn’t white van men and gammons? Image

And because the story hasn’t a Christmas theme, they’re having a New Years Special instead. Keep up. Image

Groomyd has a point. Would be interesting to see the demographic breakdown. If it is up overall then I bet it is appealling to younger kids, maybe more girls and probably a few Grauniad reading, champagne socialists but down for adults, older kids and anyone with an IQ over 50.
