Know what you mean, have watched the odd episode on quieter shifts.
If they won the star prize it was the speedboat, if not it was holiday / car Apparently the producer had bought a shit load of them and needed rid of them.

How long ago was it? I remember watching so must have been 80's I guess.
The clothes are pretty comical but you expect that - fashions change. The biggest difference to today is the contestants though. They were all monosyllabic, shy and looked scared to death.
Jim - 'D'ya play regularly son'
Bob - 'Yes'
Jim - 'D'ya play for a pub, or a club?'
Bob - 'Yes'
Jim - 'lovely, super, smashing, great - sit yerself down in the dart zone son'
Nowadays the contestants all seem to be super confident show off's. Have people changed that much?
Maybe Dexy's were right - 'these people round here, wear beaten down eyes sunk in smoke dried faces, so resigned to what their fate is'

Re: Iiiiiiiiiiiiin one
I heard someone at work talking about watching it recently and being amazed by the casual sexism that would have gone virtually unnoticed back when it was originally broadcast...

Maybe Dexys were right, "with you in that dress, my thoughts I confess, verge on dirty".

Re: Iiiiiiiiiiiiin one
Jim was always dropping in the odd racist comment too.
Cost him his job on radio -
In 1999, Bowen began presenting on BBC Radio Lancashire but in 2002, after working there for three years, he resigned after referring to a guest on his show as a "nig-nog" a word derived from the cant slang "nigmenog" meaning a very silly fellow, but which had been used in more recent times as a racial slur. He said that, even though he had apologised for the remark almost immediately, and afterwards stated "No racial connotation was ever intended".
Of course

Re: Iiiiiiiiiiiiin one
Presumably the said guest was black, but that was just coincidence?
