When picking my team I was quite surprised at the long odds on most outsiders in the R1 matches. I went for Haotian as he was relatively low but was still something like 8-5

Could have made a few quid just sticking £1 on each non-seed.

Fu hasn't played this year (or similar) and has eye trouble - which is a bit pf a problem playing Snooker. Lyu should have been favourite, imho.

re Making money: I have done OK, by putting £5 on the outsider then that "profit" minus £5 on the Favourite at odds just high enough to get a £5 profit. I would have made more by doing this before match started and ignoring it - watching doesn't help as I have opted out a few times ie £5 from Higgins was in earlier.... I have done this in previous years, and it is quite a reliable way to make a few quid. (It doesn't work with close matches like Day\McGill, but made a quid or two on Bingham\Jack when he went loads down, and would have been more if I was quicker off the mark). Taking a position isn't really worth the risk, imho.

Trump very fortunate to come through last night. He's got no chance if he continues to play like that, losing position from brown to blue then missing pinks in two 'routine' clearances.

I would love to see Trump win the thing. When he got to the final a few years back, his snooker was quite simply awesome. He hasn't made the leap forward I was expecting. If anything, he's gone slightly backwards. Hope he gets his head right and focuses. It would be great for the game if he won.

Not sure how far his picks will go but polarbear looking good in 4th with his top two still surviving. Other than that, in the entire FISO league only owenclass and darbyand (12th and 13th) still have their top (5*) pick left. I must be one of the better off ones with my 4*, 3* and 2* left.....

Watched Trump yesterday and he's still out of sorts

The game with Walden could go to the wire.

Talking of out of sorts, Rob Milkins is just one of the strangest players ever. Pots some amazing balls then misses some real tiddlers. Williams has had so many chances.

Higgins, annoyingly, has cruised through

I think at the moment only Ding and Allen can match him. Ding is on fire and Allen is supremely confidence.

In view of the above, it'll probably be Barry Hawkins who wins

Annoyingly I had him, Allen and Wilson pencilled in based on season form then got spooked by Selby winning China and them all being top half of the draw. Ah well, maybe next year. Need Walden to come through for any semblance of respectability.

Thought I was scuppered after Selby and Oh Nooh went out in R1.
Be interesting to see how far Allen and Hawkins go.
