2013 Fantasy World Snooker - Now finished

Post by Shaggy365 »

Greetings fellow FISO-er's. Well it's that time of year again. The qualifying rounds have all finished, so it's full steam ahead to The Crucible, Sheffield for 17 days of snooker.

Have a look at the web-site, have a look at the values, have a look at how much you're allowed to spend ( ), and either drop me an email or pm your 5 player numbers.

Here's the website. Entries to be received by 9:00am BST Saturday 20th April.

Good luck everyone.

Edit : Forgot to say that this is open to everyone, whether or not they are fully paid up members of FISO, and whether or not they have passed the initiation test, so if there are friends or family outside of FISO ( ) that would like to have a go, I'm more than happy to let in as many as I have rows on my scoring spreadsheet.

Was hoping to be able to pick Jimmy.

He got through 2 qualifying rounds but fell at the last :( Why can't they have wildcards like at Wimbledon?

Great to have the comp back though - I'll do some serious studying and researching later in the week and enter a team (selected by pin).

Having given the scoring a certain amount of thought over the past few weeks, I was convinced that what I've done will introduce a certain twist to proceedings. I think the thing to do is to have all your players win, and you'll do OK.

This would have been up & running a few hours earlier than it was, had it not been for a couple of matches taking ages to finish last night.

Should have also said that if you know of other people that are not fully paid-up members of FISO, they can quite happily have a go.

Shaggy can you post last years final positions ? It won't let me copy and paste :(

These will determine the rankings for the knock out cup, courtesy of Wilbert and his amazing Chollonge

Will need 32 participants but no doubt some will not enter.

It has come to my attention that people trying to view the competition web-site on a mobile get a nasty error message.

Here then are the main points of the details.

Budget - 150. Choose 5 players.

Players (player number - player value - player name)
1 - 17 - Alan McManus
2 - 30 - Ali Carter
3 - 31 - Barry Hawkins
4 - 20 - Ben Woollaston
5 - 14 - Dechawat Poomjaeng
6 - 35 - Ding Junhui
7 - 25 - Dominic Dale
8 - 32 - Graeme Dott
9 - 20 - Jack Lisowski
10 - 38 - John Higgins
11 - 48 - Judd Trump
12 - 27 - Marco Fu
13 - 24 - Marcus Campbell
14 - 39 - Mark Allen
15 - 30 - Mark Davis
16 - 23 - Mark King
17 - 50 - Mark Selby
18 - 34 - Mark Williams
19 - 25 - Martin Gould
20 - 17 - Matthew Selt
21 - 32 - Matthew Stevens
22 - 24 - Michael Holt
23 - 19 - Michael White
24 - 49 - Neil Robertson
25 - 22 - Peter Ebdon
26 - 32 - Ricky Walden
27 - 27 - Robert Milkins
28 - 48 - Ronnie O'Sullivan
29 - 10 - Sam Baird
30 - 40 - Shaun Murphy
31 - 40 - Stephen Maguire
32 - 36 - Stuart Bingham

Point scoring : Points are scored depending on match scores & player values. For example if Judd Trump beats Alan McManus in the final 18-10, the points are as follows:

Judd Trump gets 2x18x17 - 1x10x48 = 612 - 480 = 132 points

Alan McManus gets 2x10x48 - 1x18x17 = 960 - 306 = 654 points.

My first attempt comes to 190. How on earth am I going to drop 2 expensive players and be anywhere near mid table mediocrity.

... and therein lies every fantasy competition's dilema.

There are actually 104,916 valid entries. You should be able to find 1, it's just a case of finding the 1 that will win.

Seems a bit odd that the losing player gets nearly 5 times the points of the winning one whilst taking a reasonably hefty beating. If it's 18-17 Trump gets a negative score. This will be won by someone with the most, least, crap underdogs.

Yes, I agree, it is a bit odd, but Judd Trump should be beating Alan McManus by more than 18-17. His ranking points (which the values are based on) massively outweigh Alan McManus's points, and if the 2 of them met in the final, I would expect the score to be of the order of 18-5.

Have to say I preferred last year's system.

Generally in all fantasy games, where you pick a squad or team, players should score equally for doing equal things. You balance it up by their cost and a tight budget which has usually been very good in this game from memory. IMO of course.

The reason I changed it was to try and introduce a bit more points variation in the scores. I can't disagree with what murf has said, but I wanted to do something to say it's better to beat Ronnie 10-9 then Alan McManus 10-9, since it would be seen as a better performance.

If it doesn't work, I'll have a re-think for next year.

9 FISO entries so far. Still a couple of days to go. There really isn't an awful lot of time to get this done and entries in. May have to have a ponder for future. Maybe pick 3 the week before the qualifiers with budget restrictions, and any 2 qualifiers in the final week with no budget restrictions.

One to think about for the next 12 months.

A retort was at the tip of my tongue but I'll giveit a rest.

So does the new scoring system mean that someone coming in massively under budget could scoop the price?

WilBert wrote:So does the new scoring system mean that someone coming in massively under budget could scoop the price?
The person that wins will be the person that gets most points. It's quite likely that the maximum possible score will not be a spend of exactly 150, but rather unlikely that the maximum possible score will be from a spend of less than 80. Everyone has the same entry form, so everyone has a free choice of who they can pick (assuming a spend within the budget).

If you wish to change your entry, you can do so, provided it's before the deadline.
