World T20 Cricket
England Squad announced today, looks a decent 15 to me. No KP or Luke Wright, no Broad or Woakes. The 3-0 win against Pakistan, whilst rotating squad, bodes well and helps to dismiss calls for the two in form guys from Big Bash.
England seem happy to go with just the 5 bowlers, so possible best XI looks like:
1. Roy
2. Vince
3. Hales
4. Root
5. Morgan [c]
6. Buttler [wk] ....ready to be pushed up order if strong start
7. Stokes
8. Moeen Ali
9. Willey
10. Rashid
11. Finn
Other squad guys: Topley, Jordan, Liam Dawson, Billings

Re: World T20 Cricket
Well, a KP recall was never a realistic possibility, especially with the firepower in the one-day/T20 top six these days. And Wright had more than enough opportunities and proved not good enough, we've moved on now.
Bowling is the weakness, with a lack of pace and cutting edge. Finn will help in that regard, though he can go around the park on occasions, but Jordan is lucky to be included, he's bowling more like his namesake Katie Price at the moment. I suspect we're a strike bowler short of being real contenders.

Jordan must have been picked for his fielding I presume, can't think what else he's good at

Re: World T20 Cricket
Yes, agree with that.
I'm pleased to see Luke Wright do well in Oz, but his timing is eff atrocious, he thrashes at the ball like some lower order village slogger. Obviously has some ability in terms of hand eye coordination, but lacks the real class at the top level.
And definitely short of a genuine strike bowler, wickets in first 6 overs vital. Good to see Willey do well at international level in both T20 and ODI so far, but unsure how he will go. He and Finn would need decent tournaments for England to reach final. If likes of Rashid, Ali and Stokes can bowl when opposition slightly on back foot, 2 or 3 down, would make a huge difference to how they'll go.
Jordan's the Yorker specialist isn't he, last over, though not sure how he fits in side when you're just going 5 bowlers. His first over likely to go for plenty, immediately puts skipper in a bit of bother.

Re: RE: Re: World T20 Cricket
Jordan and Stokes are first class death bowlers now and so that ability to bowl yorkers to order has proved absolutely crucial. I've been amazed and delighted to see just how well the one-day cricket has come on under firstly Paul Farbrace and then Trevor Bayliss. They're even batting in tests as if they want to move the game on at speed. A young side too that can only get better playing without baggage or fear.Edmondson wrote:Yes, agree with that.

West Indies through to play England, toss proved crucial. Captain Darren Sammy has won five tosses on the trot, what a player. Morgan needs to step-up and win what looks like another crucial toss on Sunday.

Well that was both very entertaining and extremely disappointing all at the same time. Better than watching Newcastle lose again though!
