World Darts
Nothing says Christmas in a sporting sense like the start of action at Ally Pally... can MVG retain his title or Taylor claim a 17th? Then again Lewis, Wade, Barney, Anderson and a few others might have a say as well.
One former champion in John Part has already fallen, he's well off the pace these days though. Two Dutch BDO winners in action now in Klaasen and Kist, and fellow BDO graduate Stephen Bunting is tipped as an outside chance to possibly be the first to hold both titles at once!

Warming up. Great session tonight. Hope Bunting wins this one.
MVG V Taylor final would be nice, though.

This is as high quality as anything we've seen... both players averaging 103 at last count. Two future champions?

I had a decent bet on Smith when 2-0 down and thought he was going to do it again, tough to lose with that average

Re: World Darts
The standard gets higher every year. Pretty much everyone left has a shot at winning it, though Taylor's experience at the business end probably shades it if everything else is equal.
Good to see a player can still move across from the BDO and make an instant impact as well. Getting some big match experience over there probably makes it easier than trying to come through the PDC ranks from day one, even if Wolfie Adams doesn't like people using it as a stepping stone, that's the way it is nowadays apart from him and a few other old stagers.

Love it when he says things like that. Hoping nobody brings up the fact that he crossed over himself... sucked and went back.forestfan wrote: even if Wolfie Adams doesn't like people using it as a stepping stone, that's the way it is nowadays apart from him and a few other old stagers.

He never went over, are you thinking of Hankey? Adams has always been the most committed BDO man who had no interest in moving to the other side.Karrde wrote:Love it when he says things like that. Re: World Darts
Adams has played in three major PDC television events, which were the 2000 World Matchplay (losing to Shayne Burgess in the first round), the 2001 World Matchplay (losing to Phil Taylor in the semi finals), and the 2001 World Grand Prix (losing to John Lowe in the quarter finals). Adams also won a non-televised Players Championship tournament, the 1999 Scania Open, where he beat Phil Taylor in the final.
When eligibility rules for entry into PDC television tournaments changed at the start of 2002, Adams was unable to compete in them as he decided to remain a BDO player. After the 2001 World Matchplay, it would be over five years before Adams faced Taylor in a match again, in the final of the 2006 World Darts Trophy (a BDO major), where Adams lost 2-7 in the final of the Dutch competition which invited five PDC players that year.

Re: World Darts
Im not sure committed is the right word - more like he wanted to stay a Big Fish in a small pond - having said that id say at his peak he would have been in top 6 in the PDCforestfan wrote:He never went over, are you thinking of Hankey? Re: World Darts
Well, Adams does practically run the BDO these days I think. Obviously the earning potential and glamour of the PDC was never an attraction for him. Probably would have been a solid Premier League player along with the likes of King, Whitlock etc. who were part of his generation but transferred across, and just a level or so below Barney at his peak.
I think Hankey was the player who resisted for years, then went over for a couple of years and "sucked" as Karrde put it, though health issues were a factor with him. He never took to the PDC crowds so was surprising he went in the first place.

Re: World Darts
Yeah Hankley moved over too late when he was past his peak - agree about Adams being King,Whitlock level. Im surprised players like Fitton and OShea didnt move over about 10 years ago (too late now past their best). Scott Waites would seem the most likely but having won the BDO in 2013 and not moved then, maybe it isnt for him.

I think its since I asked him if it was true that when he used to come onto the stage in a ridiculous cape with the words COUNT written on the back , that I informed him somebody has stolen the 0 . True story at the Lakeside few years back. He aint worn it since.

Re: World Darts
Anyway, Taylor v Barney and MVG v Anderson, two great semi-finals in prospect.
The Power is doing just enough in each round at the moment but he's such a competitor that it will take something really special to beat him. He hasn't really got worse, just others have caught up in terms of scoring power and it's probably too much to ask of him to raise the bar yet again as he's been doing for 25 years!

Re: World Darts
Taylor v Anderson it is then... Anderson has the scoring power to match Phil but would be surprised if he gets the better of him over 13 sets.
Taylor now has a 20-0 career record in World Championship semis

Re: World Darts
What a recovery from Anderson to turn the set around after that - it effectively cost him the first throw at the very start of the set, then he missed a single 1 to set up a double in the next leg after a shout out in the crowd, but somehow came back to win it 3-2.

Re: World Darts
What a performance, didn't give him much hope when Taylor pulled it back to 6-6... to pull that last set out under pressure was remarkable.
The standard just increases every year, there's at least 4 or 5 players at this sort of level now.

Good call, bit annoyed I didn't back him as intended to but never got round to it until I saw he was 4/1 which I thought a little tight.golden bear wrote:He knows his biscuits.....golden bear wrote:Gary Anderson is the man according to my darts fanatic mate.
