Bournemouth - Expected Line-Ups 14 August 2016

Post by FootballWriter2 »

Report below written 2 August. Further updates to come in the run-up to Bournemouth's opening match at home to Man Utd on Sunday 14 August at 1:30pm.

Last Season Stats

A typical first season for the newly promoted club. Full of ups and downs. But eventually Premier League Safety was achieved. They finished the season with 42 points. The manager Eddie Howe tried to combine attacking flair with a doughty never say die attitude last season.

Manager

This is Eddie Howes second stint in charge of the Cherries and we expect more of the same in the forthcoming season from him. A resilient team that will attack fluidly and has the potential to score goals at will. Combined with a pressing game to win the ball back quickly and a packed midfield where the full backs add extra passing options and width to the team by overlapping the wingers who tuck into the midfield. We should expect a 4-4-2 lineup from Bournemouth again this season but expect pretty fluid changes when defending or attacking.

Defence

Firstly, the goal keepers.

Artur Boruc – The veteran Goalkeeper was first choice for most of last season. But could find this season a bit more of a battle with Adam Federici who has started all of the preseason games. Made 32 appearances last season.

Adam Federici – Played in all the preseason games and I would full expect them to be first choice come the first game of the season. Made 12 appearances in all competitions last season.

The Defenders include.

Charlie Daniels – The attacking full back will be looking to carry on where he left off last season. Last season notched up 39 appearances and 3 goals.

Simon Francis – The club captain is another certainty for the new campaign. He played in every games for the club last season and will be looking to repeat that again this year.

Steve Cook – The highly rated defender will be looking to continue his good form at the heart of the defence. Played in 38 games last season scoring 4 goals.

Tyrone Mings – Unfortunately will miss the start of the season due to long term knee injury. Once back to full fitness I’m sure he’ll be looking to add more playing time to his record with the club.

Adam Smith – Has recently come back from a lengthy injury and will be looking to establish himself in the first team again. Last season he made 36 appearances and scored 2 goals.

Nathan Ake – The on-loan under 21 Dutch international defender will be looking to gain further first experience this season.

Bradley Smith – The Ex-Liverpool Left back will be looking to make a strong impression on his new team this season and push for a regular starting birth in the back four. Last season he played in 10 games for Liverpool scoring 1 goal.

Midfielders

Dan Gosling – The journeyman midfielder will be looking to cement a place in the club’s midfield now that Matt Ritchie has moved on. Made 37 appearances last season scoring 4 goals.

Andre Surman – The defensive midfield player will look to again be a pivotal part of the club’s midfield in the forthcoming season. Made 38 appearances last season.

Marc Pugh – The winger will have stiff competition again with the arrival of Jordan Ibe. But in a busy schedule and a busy midfield area he is still likely to get some game time this year. Last season he made 30 appearances scoring 5 goals.

Harry Arter – Looked to be a certainty to partner Andre Surman in central midfield but has picked up a hamstring injury and doesn’t look to be back until the start of the season. Last season made 22 appearances scoring 1 goal.

Max Gradel – The diminutive Ivory coast midfield player will be looking to increase his game time this year and might just do that given the injury to Harry Arter and Matt Ritchie’s absence. Last season he made 14 appearances scoring 1 goal.

Shaun MacDonald – The central midfield player tends to be played in a deep role by Eddie Howe. But as that role is usually taken up by Andre Surman it can mean the opportunities in the starting eleven might be slim again this season. Played 9 games and scored 1 goal last season.

Junior Stanislas – The winger would have thought that he might push on for more games this season but he had a hernia operation in the summer and is not expected back until after the start of the season. Last season played in 25 games scoring 5 goals.

Eunan O’Kane – The Irish Midfielder will be looking to gain a starting birth in what looks like a very competitive midfield area for the club. Last season made 20 appearances.

Joshua King – Due to the injury to Callum Wilson last season Joshua King found himself playing in far more advanced positions. The versatile attacking midfielder come forward will be looking to carry on from last season. He made 35 appearances scoring 7 goals.

Jordan Ibe – The Ex-Liverpool winger will be looking to make sure of a place in the starting lineup of his new side. Last season he made 41 appearances scoring 4 goals for Liverpool until his transfer July 2016.

Emerson Hyndman – The young American midfielder has an ankle injury that will keep him out until the start of the season. He will be looking for first team experience this season.

Lewis Cook – Signed in July the diminutive England under-21 midfielder will be trying to gain as much experience as possible this season. Last season played for Leeds in the Championship 34 times and scored 2 goals.

Forwards

Callum Wilson – Last season started very brightly but after a serious leg injury he missed 7 months of last season. But with his previous track record I would still expect him to be the clubs first choice striker. Made 13 appearances scoring 5 goals last season.

Benik Afobe – After his transfer from Wolves, Benik Afobe made 15 appearances scoring 4 goals. Will provide competition with Callum Wilson.

Lewis Grabban –I think will start the season with Callum Wilson as the withdrawn forward. After signing from Norwich in January went onto to make 16 appearances.

Tokelo Rantie – Might find appearances hard to come by this season with other forwards ahead of him in the pecking order and the return to fitness of Callum Wilson.

Lys Mousset – The young French forward bought from Le Havre in June will be hoping to make an impact at his new club. Last season he played in 29 games scoring 14 goals for Le Havre.

Expected Line-ups

They have lost a couple of key players since last season in Tommy Elphick and especially Matt Ritchie. But equally we think that they have also expanded their team with some quality new additions that will be looking to make a name for themselves. I would expect a team similar to the below to start the season (Possible alternative player marked in brackets):

4-4-2 formation:

Goal Keeper: Adam Federici (Artur Boruc)

Defence: Simon Francis, Steve Cook, Charlie Daniels, Bradley Smith

Midfield: Andre Surman, Max Gradel (Joshua King), Marc Pugh (Dan Gosling), Jordan Ibe

Forward: Callum Wilson, Lewis Grabban (Lys Mousset)

In certain games we could see Joshua King drafted in as the link between midfield and attack. But I think most of the time we will see two forwards start. My bet is on fans' favourite Lewis Grabban to play with Callum Wilson.

Summary

It will be interesting to see if Callum Wilson can start the new season as he did last season. As a cut price option in an attack minded team he should get plenty of opportunities to score if he can take them. Jordan Ibe is another one to watch. Already he has scored a couple of goals in preseason and looks to have settled in to the team quickly. Also last season Simon Francis and Charlie Daniels caught the eye of many fantasy manager. If they can repeat that form in the new season that would add further options for the rotation in fantasy managers' defences this year.
