This week I am mostly listening to....

Not to take anything away from the "Currently drinking/currently playing" thread or the "Albums of the Year" thread, I just thought I'd open a new thread, mainly for new single releases or charting songs that float your boat :)

So, here are three tunes for starters which have made their way onto my exclusive playlist

Class 8-) 8-)

Really like this cover version.

A tad country but a nice chillout tune.

Don't like RW but you're right Achiles, it is catchy. Funnily enough, I didn't find out it was him until recently - thought it was One Direction or someone similar.

I knew it was him but it is so catchy, especially when you start playing it in your head over and over

A return to form for Mr Williams.

I risk being ridiculed in such a bad way when I admit to something.....

The new One Direction Song is REALLY REALLY catchy

A recent discovery for me this and I think it's rather funky.

Kate Lawler played the new Stones song on Kerrang radio this week.
Have to admit very impressed by it.

Singles.... RIP.

99% of new single sales are downloads.

Kids today don't know what they are missing. If they did they wouldn't be downloading the crap that is in the charts.

Made it to number one 8-) 8-)

Hope it hasn't peaked too early - may have to buy a couple of copies to prevent one of Cowell's puppets topping the charts.

Isn't it the soundtrack to the John Lewis Christmas advert? I've never seen it but have heard about it.

I have also stumbled upon this Christmas Cracker.

Think Goldie Lookin Chain meets East 17 meets Hot Chip

Tender. Heart wrenching. Tear jerking. Gulp

One of the good things about the advent of downloads is that it has encouraged companies to release sought after cd's from their back catalogues at bargain prices. Very hard to find Jazz Funk classics are now available for a few £'s whereas the originals would cost you hundreds if not thousands. I purchased a couple of Lonnie Liston Smith Albums recently, one of which ' Loveland / Exotic Mysteries ' has been played over and over again.

Got some more coming for Christmas hopefully. :)

Given that a lot of people will be listening to recent stuff, I thought this was the best place to stick this: The NME lists the 50 best tracks of 2012.

http://www.nme.com/blog/index.php?blog= ... more=1&c=1" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Nice to see Tame Impala in there twice, and I really like the one from Melody's Echo Chamber. When I first heard their no.1 pick, I thought it was likeable enough, but not exciting enough to come out on top over the last 12 months.

Quite a varied list, and lots there I know nowt about.

it is a surprisingly varied list for the NME, although unfortunately I can't get any of the Spotify links to open :? .

Don't know why they're so mad about Palma Violets, it's an OK track but that's about it - I think they're desperate to spot the new Libertines.

The Blur track is an absolute beauty, one of their best (think that photo's a bit old though).

One of my favourite music sites is running a similar list, although tending slightly to the more obscure, loads of good tracks I hadn't heard before:

Ta for the link. More obscure picks than NME, as you say. Was only really already familiar trackwise with DIIV and Beach House. Really like the latter's, but I don't think they've picked the best DIIV track!

And I think Soundcloud was a better option than Spotify.

Great track. Duet with Thom Yorke. Love Kamikaze off that album, probably because its a bit closer to their earlier stuff

Yep, love this album. I don't think Kamikaze was ever released as a single which is weird as its one of the stand out tracks.

New from Mr Kane, a touch of old school indie rock n roll :-

...and a new song from the Phonics, more of a slow burner :-
