A Moon Shaped Pool (new Radiohead Album)

Post by Zimmerman »

A beautiful piece of work. I know radiohead haven't been a lot of peoples cup of tea (post-Bends)... but the latest album (released this evening) is stunning.

If you're not in to Thoms warbling and/or their more melancholic stuff, you might as well avoid this.
But if you do like that, throw in some strings and you are on the right track.

Just ordered the special edition vinyl. A bit steep but seemed to be the only version where you also got a digital download immediately.
Will give it a listen in bed later.

'True Love Waits' finally makes an album appearance.

That's a tad harsh - some of OK Computer was pretty good! :D

Listened to it in the car on the way back just now. Absolutely loving my first listen (despite the driver side door speaker packing in and a poorly soundproofed car). I may be gone for a few days.

Was desperate for some orchestra.

Yes, it's very good.

Had a few listens to Burn the Witch and Daydreaming after they dropped last week. Burn the Witch is an awesome track which seems to get better after every listen; it will be a great one to catch live - loving those strings.

Listened to the rest of it on 6 music last night. Great stuff!

Very jealous of anyone with tickets for their upcoming shows.

Me too :(

Had booked flights to Amsterdam for next weekend optimistically assuming I'd get gig tickets (I didn't).

A few more listens in - remarkable. Thought they were starting to show signs of fading over recent years (KOL was a bit meh for me) but this is right up there with the best they've ever done imo. You can tell Jonny has been writing film scores for a the last decade.

No idea how they'd even start when they try to play all this live.

Fleetingly showed up on Google Play an hour early yesterday, was quickly taken down and hasn't reappeared. Thom Yorke throwing toys out of pram?? Anyway, I've got a fair bit of credit on there so hopefully it'll be back before too long.

True Love Waits on a studio album after all this time is an odd one...but I'm not complaining.

I'm not getting it :?

Loved this band to bits as first gig I ever saw but everything after Kid A, well, it all seems bleeps and blips and Tom wailing. His vocals are both chilling and beautiful at times and the strings have replaced the "bleeps" but it's doing nothing for me :(

Loving the first two tracks (mainly because they've been accessible for few days now) but haven't had the time to really listen to the rest of the album, will reserve judgement until later on in the week...

Not too disappointed, but I had very low expectations. Too many songs have such indistinct vocals they are difficult to get into, and there's a lack of passion and energy in the music itself.

I really need to listen to it with headphones rather than whilst driving.

I ended up listening to The Bends and Pablo Honey again to reminisce on how good they were. That says it all really. :(

Gets better and better, the more you listen to it.

Beautiful, haunting genius.

Can't wait for the vinyl!
