If there's any star who really couldn't care less about someone stealing the show from him it's Chris Martin...

Re: Glastonbury 2016
Both very safe bookings. Predictable after Kanye's media fuss and backlash last year.
Muse's star is waning, must have been an early booking. Can't recall their latest album last year doing anything of interest. No Brit Award nominations. Foals or Biffy Clyro would have been more deserved for this slot.
Might try and see Coldplay but i'll probably be elsewhere at another stage on site as normal for headliner time.
Adele for Saturday? Could be Radiohead though.

Not this year.
Emily Eavis said it's 3 UK headliners this year.

Yeah, she actually said "3 British bands". Adele is not a band whichever way you look at her. This gives me more hope for Radiohead.kingcurtley wrote:Emily Eavis said it's 3 UK headliners this year.

Re: Glastonbury 2016
Final headliner announced last night: Adele
So it's another year I have zero interest in the pyramid headliners. Looking forward to the full line-up being released in the next week or two.
I think there is still hope for Radiohead doing something over the weekend. They played a secret set in 2011 - I reckon they could do something similiar this year. Seems strange them not playing any UK festivals this summer.

Re: Glastonbury 2016
Well they're headliners because they have mass appeal. If you want something more "alternative", well there's lots of other stages (and festivals).
That said I'm surprised there's no headliner from the older generation of bands this year, they usually mix up the eras a bit.

It's middle of the road, corporate whore, chart shite.
They might as well go the whole hog and have The X Factor winner headlining.
Is Glastonbury full of middle aged sales reps these days?

Re: Glastonbury 2016
I think tour and album sales figures would suggest these acts wouldn't negatively impact ticket sales if they were announced beforehand! Quite the opposite.murf wrote:I always wondered why they sold tickets before announcing headliners. Absolutely awful selections.
If you were hoping to see pre-2000 rock legends then obviously you'd be disappointed. But I suspect the average age of ticket applicants is lower than that of the average member of Coldplay or Muse, never mind "veteran" acts. Not quite the age profile to call for Bieber et al (that appears to be V Festival) but expectations are probably slightly different to a lot of those on here. They've clearly gone for the safe bets this year after the Kanye disaster, and perhaps the "classic" headline act they might have wanted wasn't available.

Re: Glastonbury 2016
Safe and dull, dull, dull. Even Muse as the most 'alternative' headliners are fairly dull (IMO). I liked early Coldplay but even that was quite 'dull' musically. Adele is immensely talented but does nothing for me.
These are all just:

I thought Glastonbury had/wanted an edgier and musically credible vibe - I don't get it because they could sell out dozens of times over without 'selling out'.Maldini wrote:middle of the road, corporate whore, chart shite.

Re: Glastonbury 2016
No, it's not. It's three of the biggest acts in music right now. Glastonbury have done what Glastonbury always do: secured three of the biggest names around for their headline acts. Not much to my liking, but there is no denying their mass appeal. Adele is currently killing it - there isn't a bigger name around at the moment.Maldini wrote:It's middle of the road, corporate whore, chart shite
I would be interested to know who you think would be worthy of a Glastonbury headline slot in 2016?

Re: Glastonbury 2016
They don't really "sell" the tickets before announcing headliners. I have paid a deposit, the rest is due in two weeks time. If I don't want to go, I can get my deposit back and my ticket will go back in the pot for the April re-sale.murf wrote:I always wondered why they sold tickets before announcing headliners. There won't be many tickets going back in the pot.

Glastonbury 2016
All three bands are mass marketed, no?
Muse - the very definition of Dad rock.
Adele - undoubtedly talented but has so far brought out the same album three times.
Coldplay - dreary, chart friendly garbage.
I think it's safe to say that Glastonbury has well and truly sold out. Just glad I didn't get hoodwinked into paying an arm and leg for a ticket before that dirge was announced.

I know it's a long time ago but I'm positive I was there was in 1992 & 1994. Must've imagined it.

Re: Glastonbury 2016
Then surely you understand that Glastonbury is so much more than the 3 bands that headline the pyramid stage?

Waiting for the 2017 headliner to come on.
Shouldn't be long now. Just got to wait til this busker has wrapped up.
He's not bad. Keeps repeating the same 3 songs though

In a huge stroke of luck I realised the rv had been paused so I could skip to the end.
Nothing against the guy. He's written some good songs. That was a bit shit though.
Might watch Chic again to cheer myself up, although quite enjoying Boy Better Know.

Yeah, the rocky one, the rappy one and the ballad... brings to mind the old joke about Bryan Adams, "his fast song and his slow song are very good, but why does he have to release them both so many times?"unc.si. wrote:Waiting for the 2017 headliner to come on.

It is impressive for one man and an acoustic guitar to be able to carry off a headline slot in this setting though, they can't just have 40- and 50-something rock bands headlining every night.
Anyway next year is a gap year, so two years to plan the next line-up. Long enough for the Gallaghers to sort things out?

Mind you the headliners are often the worst bit of Glastonbury.

Re: Glastonbury 2016
Seems to be plenty of media outlets suggesting that Sheeran was brilliant, so maybe its just me.
I actually do like his songs - I'm not one of these music snobs that sneers at the popular. It just didn't really feel like much of a performance. I guess if the people watching came away having had a good night then who cares whether I liked it
So where is Glastonbury going to be in 2019? Weston Park or Donington would be nice as that should pretty much guarantee me getting tickets.
Will Glastonbury be Glastonbury if its not at Glastonbury though??
I went to Royal Ascot the year it was held in York. It was a good event, but it wasn't really Ascot (not that I'm a regular at Ascot. Basically I'm just a corporate entertainment whore. If someone else is paying for it I'll go to anything )
edit: not that Glastonbury would be corporate entertainment. I know its got a bit trendy to go there these days but I don't think its quite strayed into Premiership football territory yet,
