SD Camera card prob?

Post by Spinynorman »

I have a Cannon camera in which there is an sd card.

For the last 5 years I have used various cards and when I want to empty them I insert the card into my computer and either right click and then cut and paste to a folder or I select delete.

Now all of a sudden both cut and delete are unavailable.

I have obviously done one of those things that you do even though you know you haven't done it and something has changed. :?

Any help to resolve this would be greatly appreciated. :)

Is there a little slidey thing on the side of the card which stops you editting it? A bit like knocking the tab out on an old C90 (to compare to proper old school concepts!)

Copy and paste would still work if so or you could just slide it t'other way

Can you still 'copy'?

(Ctrl C will sometimes work even if the copy option doesn't show)

Yes I can still copy. It's just cut, delete and destroy that are now unavailable.

Are you using an external card reader or the built in one?
Sounds like it has gone to read only rather than read/write

It's a built in reader. If that has happened is there somewhere to change it?

I've just asked on Faceworld and all of my photographic friends have said that it is indeed all down to a slidey bit of plastic on the side.

You were well ahead of the pack there murf. 8-)

Many thanks for the help all. :D

I should have been an IT consultant!

Fixed my mum's telly over the phone the other day by getting her to cycle the power. IT genius.
