New telly

Bought a new telly from John Lewis about 16 months ago and it's gone kaput. They've offered me my money back or credit against a new one with them. I'm a lazy git so will probably do the latter.... and a new five year guarantee is a big plus. So I've got £600 to play with which I can obviously top up if I want to upgrade (or go cheaper and get a few quid back). I'm looking at screen size c.48-50 inches and already have a sound bar I'm happy with so in-built sound is not a big issue.

Any advice?

Take it 4 weeks later you're now sorted?

Yep all sorted. Went with a Sony in the end. Can't beat a Sony telly at that price.

Ha ha ironically, my input would have been my relative recent procurement of a Sony telly too!!!

Can install apps on mine (not sure if that's standard now (so Kodi installed). Even has a shortcut button on the remote for Netflix.

I think I might even be able to play play station games (but haven't bothered to try it).

As you say, pretty nifty bit of kit for the money.

I've not been blown away by the UHD though.
Only thing I think I get to use it for is the footy, and I'm not entirely sure I see the difference!

Try some of the 4k sample videos on YouTube. Some of them look amazing.

But yes, not sure it's great for uhd football at this price range, too much fast motion on the screen maybe.

Annoyingly the Android telly keeps dropping the link to my Android phone for stuff like YouTube. A common problem from a quick Google search with no obvious answer.

Is YouTube not installed on the telly already... or you using your phone for wifi purposes?

Doing searches etc. on the pre-installed YouTube is a pain. Letter by letter on the remote control. Much easier to navigate and cast from my phone.
