Predict the Draws for the Quarter Finals

If you can be bothered :)

Champions League

Barca v Monaco
Borussia Dortmund v Juventus
Bayern München v Real Madrid
Atlético de Madrid v Leicester

Europa League

Man United v Celta Vigo
Anderlecht v Lyon
Ajax v Genk
Beşiktaş v Schalke

Incase anyone's wondering why I've included diacritical marks in team names rather than using standard lettering, it's because it makes me feel superior to the average beer drinking Englishmen :D

Excuse my ignorance, but is there any kind of seeding with the draw at this stage ? It's certain that Barcelona won't draw Real Madrid, either way. I always feel these draws are a bit dubious.

Regards the Euro game, i'm out of it having 8 players eliminated. I'd need to pick the 5 highest point scorers in the next phase & for them to go through, to even remotely get back into it.

I would go with :

Barca v Monaco
Real Madrid v Leicester
Juventus v A. Madrid
Bayern v B. Dortmund

I don't really care about the Europa draw, other than Man U draw & hope they get knocked out.

1. "In case" is two words.
2. For an average, it would be Englishman (singular).
3. You should put a full stop at the end of a sentence.
4. Team names should be in full if you are being grammatically correct.
5. Why use a mish mash of foreign spellings for most foreign teams and tabloid style abbreviations for English teams and some foreign ones ("Lyon")? Pick a style and stick to it.

All rather more important than any absence of accents that the English language doesn't really use. ;)

How names of overseas clubs are used is always an interesting debate... often the city name is included even if not in the club's official name, unless the stand-alone name is really iconic and non-ambiguous (e.g. "Juventus"). Some of the official names are confusingly generic, e.g. "Athletic Club" may have a clear meaning if you're in Spain but otherwise it's much easier to refer to them as "Bilbao"... similarly "Sporting Lisbon" is disliked but it's just clearer than any alternative (though "Sporting CP" is increasingly used in written media). Once people get used to a certain version it's hard to change (as with mispronunciations of foreign player names!)

It's probably the same for English clubs when referred to abroad... I think simply "Manchester" was in common usage for the red half before their rivals also came to international prominence.

Leicester & Monaco haven't come out too badly. They've go every chance of progressing.

The other ties too difficult to call.
