Europe's Best 11 so far this season...

Post by Oulala »

Based on the points matrix at http://www.oulala.com which has a total of 275 action criteria and is sourced directly from Opta here is the best team in Europe's top five leagues (EPL, La Liga, Bundesliga, Serie A and Ligue 1) so far this season...

Image

The team boasts four La Liga players, three Premier League players, three Ligue 1 players, just one Bundesliga player and no Serie A players.
Chelsea are the only side that is represented by more than one of their players.

Here is a little about each player and how well they've performed this season so far...

Goalkeeper: Alphonse Areola (Bastia) Profile
Image
The young twenty-one year old Frenchman currently on loan from PSG is having an outstanding season for Bastia and must have his parent club keeping a close eye on his progress.
His two cleansheets from eight games does not tell the full story. Twenty saves, eighteen defensive clearances, eighteen catches, eleven punches and a penalty save have propelled him to the very top of the goalkeeping charts.

Right Back: Branislav Ivanovic (Chelsea) Profile
Image
Since arriving from Lokomotiv Moscow in 2008 the big, versatile Serbian has progressed to being an ever present in the Chelsea team. Ever reliable to put a shift in for his team. This season he has already scored two goals in his opening six games and created eleven chances for his teammates, remember, this guy is a defender... with excellent displays of strength he has won thirty-eight 50/50 balls, made twenty-three defensive clearances and completed twelve successful tackles.

Centre Back: Vitorino Hilton Da Silva (Montpellier) Profile
Image
The veteran defender, now thirty-seven, is enjoying his seventeenth season as a professional and judging by the stats he is Brazil's answer to Andrea Pirlo, he gets better with age. Are you sitting down as his figures are going to shock you... Hilton has completed eighty-four defensive clearances in eight games, has won fifty-two 50/50 battles and made twenty-six interceptions, wow!! The incredible fact however is that he has never played for his country.

Centre Back: Raul Albentosa (SD Eibar) Profile
Image
After helping Eibar achieve promotion last season, the twenty-six year old Spaniard is enjoying life in La Liga. Winning thirty-six 50/50 battles, completing thirty-four defensive clearances and making twenty-one interceptions he appears to have stepped up to the top tier in Spanish football with ease. Albentosa has also played his part offensively this season wading in with a goal and an assist for his club.

Left Back: Ricardo Rodriguez (VfL Wolfsburg) Profile
Image
Still just twenty-two years of age, the young Swiss international has racked up many appearances for club and country, a set piece specialist he truly is a player that will make it to the very top, you can quote me on that. From six games so far he has scored three goals, made one assist and assist twelve shots. A very modern day full back with his attacking attributes yet he knows his responsibilities defensively racking up fifty-one 50/50 battles won, sixteen interceptions and sixteen defensive clearances.

Midfielder: Mile Jedinak (Crystal Palace) Profile
Image
The most underrated footballer in the Premier League, arguably in Europe, fact. The Australian international has been the English League's best defensive midfielder since Crystal Palace gained promotion in 2013. This season he is going from strength to strength, so far in his six games he has won a total of sixty-three 50/50 battles, made twenty-five tackles and completed twenty-three interceptions. Not to mention his two goals and one assist.

Midfielder: Dimitri Payet (Marseille) Image
Image
The twenty-seven year old French winger has had a terrific start to the campaign primarily playing centrally behind the striker for Marseille this season. His attacking stats of three goals, three assists, nineteen shot assists, fourteen dribbles and eleven successful crosses have highlighted his danger as Europe's top play-maker thus far.

Midfielder: Ander Iturraspe (Athletic Club) Profile
Image
The twenty-five year old Athletic defensive midfielder has been La Liga's standout midfield enforcer so far this season. Winning fifty-two 50/50 battles, making twenty-four interceptions and thirteen clearances he has stepped up his game and made major improvements since last season, the test will be whether he can continue his upward climb.

Striker: Lionel Messi (Barcelona) Profile
Image
It is no surprise that the little Argentine appears in this team. His season has begun as many do with goals and assists aplenty. Five goals and six assists from his opening six games is frightening. Add twenty-four successful dribbles, eighteen shot assists for teammates and forty-seven 50/50 battles won and it is obvious why he gets the plaudits he does, what a player.

Striker: Diego Costa (Chelsea) Profile
Image
What a start the Spaniard has made to his Premier League career. Eight goals in six games along with twenty-nine 50/50 battles won, fifteen shots on target and ten shot assists for teammates, he appears to already feel at home in England. If he can even come close to his performances for Atletico Madrid last season then Chelsea will be a very scary opponent for all of their opponents.

Striker: Cristiano Ronaldo (Real Madrid) Profile
Image
It's impossible to imagine any 'best 11' without CR7 so this one doesn't disappoint and here's why. Ten goals in his opening five games including two hat-tricks should do the trick we think, but that's not all. Twenty-two 50/50 balls won, eighteen shots on target, twelve shot assists and two penalties won. The world's best player? It's an interesting debate for sure.

Are there any surprises for you? Any players you'd have included or some that you wouldn't have? Let us know.

84 clearances by Hilton?! That's insane!! And at his age!

Love that Oulala brings new players I had never heard of to my attention, Hilton and Rodriguez especially!
