UFPL side game (no maps required)

Post by bspittles »

OK, anyone interested in a side game that isn't based on the London Underground map? ;-)

(No minimum number of players required)

It's a football game, in which each "manager" plays a game against another "manager" each week. You score goals depending on the players in your the UFPL squad, and a play in a league format etc etc.

The scoring system is this:

* From your final eleven players at the end of the gameweek, take the lowest score from a defender, a midfielder and a striker. Goalkeepers are included as defenders.

* Compare the score for your defender with your opponent's striker, midfielder against midfielder and striker against defender. Each time your player scores more than your opponent, you score one goal.

* You score an extra goal if two of your players have the same points.

* You guarantee a clean sheet if all three of your scores are the same.

* You fail to score at all if your captain (with points doubled) is one of your three players.

Example:
My lowest defender scores 2, my lowest midfielder scores 3 and my lowest striker scores 2.
For my opponent, his defender scores 6, midfielder scores 1 and striker scores 7.

My defender loses (2 vs 7) so I go 0-1 down.
My midfielder wins (3 vs 2) so I equalise 1-1.
My striker loses (2 vs 6) so I go 1-2 down.
I score an extra goal because my defender and striker both scored 2 points. 2-2

Both manager's gain 1 league point.

Hopefully that's fairly clear!

It would be good to start in GW 6, and maybe have a couple of friendlies in GW 5 to test my spreadsheet. Only those in the FISO league can enter so I can easily find your teams.

3 zeroes = a clean sheet?

Yep, if you decide your season has gone so disasteriously wrong that this side game is the only thing worth fighting for

Why not run it in FPL instead. You will get more interest there I am sure.

I don't get the logic behind getting an extra goal just because two of your players have the same bad score. What if your striker had 3 points and your defender had 4 points, then because the scores aren't the same then you lose the 'match' above 2-1, even though your players had done slightly better from a UFPL perspective?

Please explain.

That was just to make it less likely that the "best" UFPL score was going to win every match. Football being a funny old game, etc.

A little bit of luck means the underdog can sometimes win :-)
