Any interested in a "FISO APP" for iPhone and Android?
Quite some time ago I managed to persuade admin to install the Tapatalk code on the forum so that we could use the Tapatalk app on iPhone and Android.
tapatalk-for-iphone-android-blackberry- ... 73892.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
The only downside of Tapatalk is that the free version is read only, so basically useless, where as the paid version, which costs us (the end user) a couple of quid allows full access/posting etc.
Another downside of Tapatalk is that you have to fire up the app, then choose the forum that you wish to access. Okay, not overly demanding, but still not silky smooth.
There is another way which tons of popular forums are now using, which is direct access via a dedicated app for iPhone and Android. The App is free and logs you straight into the forum for full access. I use the Talk Photography and AV Forums apps on Android and they work brilliantly.
Unfortunately, the downside of the Apps being free is the cost to us is passed to the forum owner.
http://www.forumrunner.net/?p=branding" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Currently, the costs would be $349 per year for both iPhone and Android apps, which includes writing the app for FISO and publishing it in both the App Store and Android Market.
Admin is worried that there wouldn't be enough demand to make it worthwhile, will he get the £235 back for example in increased revenues?
Would having a dedicated in both App store and Android Market bring new users to the forum?
I'd love to see a dedicated app, what do you think demand would be like?

I dont FISO much on my iPhone, but whenn do its via tapatalk. (I must have bought it because I can post). I agree wih what you are saying about it not being silky smooth though.
I would certainly be interested in aniPhone app, for sure. The unknown factor though is going to be the cost. If we're talking app prices (i.e.59p/99p) per year I dont imagine too many having a problem with that - we seem to pay it for rubbish FPL apps.

The App to us would be FREE, but the cost falls at admin feets I believe.
Being FREE to the end user I suppose is to encourage the user base.

For Android users, here's the list of forums who have a dedicate app in the Android Market:

I've never understood the need for an app
I use my phone. I access this site and others.
I read them and post as normal
What does an app do that i would need to purchase one?

Re: Any interested in a "FISO APP" for iPhone and Android?
Have to say that I'm quite happy with Tapatalk - the latest updates are backing it progressively quicker. The only major con I have with it is that it errors when you try to edit posts.
I would only really see the value in our own app if FISO could make an overall profit through advertising.

No interest at all while Tapatalk is fine. If I could mod using a dedicated app I'd probably be interested.

Re: Any interested in a "FISO APP" for iPhone and Android?
It sizes & optimises everything your landscape CPU screen see's for your phones portrait screen so there is no need for pinching & resizing everything. It is understood 'Safari' or its variants works, but it will not work as well as a dedicated app.kizkiz wrote:I've never understood the need for an app

As has been said, Tapatalk is OK, I can post but not edit posts for some reason.
Page loading has been a bit weird over last couple of days since update. Anybody else?

Still don't get it. Edited a post above and replied very quickly and easily. Didn't even need to pinch as screen auto resized when I selected the reply box

Anyone else using Tapatalk?
Strange thing happening for me... if I post it doesn't appear as the latest post, doesn't make the latest topics screen, and I can't delete it.

There are issues with Tapatalk at the moment being looked into by Fiso's developers.

Did this ever take off?
I'm guessing not, hence I have loaded tapatalk onto my iphone, but it's only showing me yesterdays threads or previous days, how do I get up to date threads?
Ta.

I'm a daily Tapastalk user though, so don't really understand the issue. Some forums are funny if you use the Timeline view, but Unread works well for me.

Yep, unread seems to be the way to go.
Haven't had an issue with it. Would guess 90% of my Fiso use through tapatalk rather than a desktop.

I just use 'unread' too.
Anybody else having the minor problem that Tapatalk now opens onto 'feed' rather than 'forums'? Takes an annoying extra tap to get in and I can't figure out how to get back to the old way!

Re: Any interested in a "FISO APP" for iPhone and Android?
My Feed page has the word Trending at the top
Then first thread is from 17th Aug, next one Yesterday.
If I pull down to refresh, I get other old items instead, 19h ago and next one 15h ago
Settings have
Unread Behaviour = On
Read order = First Unread,
Any ideas?

Mine drops me back wherever I last left it, so that sounds like something in Settings to me.murf wrote:I just use 'unread' too.

Just found it in Settings, changed it under "tab behaviour". No idea what that is all about and pretty sure I never changed it. Weird.....Mystery wrote:Mine drops me back wherever I last left it, so that sounds like something in Settings to me.murf wrote:I just use 'unread' too.

I seem to have got my feed working.
Is there any way to only see the FISO forums that I want like I can on the website?

You could try subscribing to specific forums but I've never really got that to work.

The next phpbb update for fiso's forum (which hopefully should be in the next month or so) will introduce a responsive design so that the forums can be viewed fine on a tablet/smartphone.

Re: Any interested in a "FISO APP" for iPhone and Android?
Excellent. Having tried Tapatalk and found it lacking in the way I prefer to view the forum I'd be very interested in this update. I often use my phone and whilst it's not too bad a responsive design would be much easier.admin wrote:The next phpbb update for fiso's forum (which hopefully should be in the next month or so) will introduce a responsive design so that the forums can be viewed fine on a tablet/smartphone.

Re: Any interested in a "FISO APP" for iPhone and Android?
If this means we can follow specific forums rather than seeing all of them them that would make it useful. Currently seeing posts from all of the comps I am not involved with makes it too hard to use. CheersDrBunker wrote:Excellent. Yep, that is what I use to restrict what I see online and on my phone if I use FISO website, thanksDrBunker wrote:Is this page of any use?
ucp.php?i=prefs&mode=index" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
However, on a phone, FISO website isn't great, so tried tapatalk.
This looks nicer, but shows posts from all forums which is too much noise.

Re: Any interested in a "FISO APP" for iPhone and Android?
I'd imagine the 'managed displayed forums' modification we have on fiso will also work under the next update so you can see the latest topics on your smartphone from just the forums you're interested in. If not then remind us to add it in.jacksosi wrote:Yep, that is what I use to restrict what I see online and on my phone if I use FISO website, thanksDrBunker wrote:Is this page of any use?
