One thing I have just thought of is that it appears to be quite tricky to insert tables into posts. For example, there is a poster who runs a few comps who doesn't use a tabular format therefore it is tricky to work out how you are doing.

So, there either needs to be a set of 'how to' pages or a simple way to insert a table.

I know that various posters use various methods but perhaps some kind of standard would be nice. If the table is inserted as an image could it be uploaded (hosted) by FISO rather than a 3rd party?
That is actually an excellent post

This thread seems to be moving on nicely.

Some very positive ideas and suggestions we can investigate further.

My solitary brain cell nearly exploded trying to work that out.

A few suitable placed Stickies on "How to...." might be a good idea?
Yes, I second that.

Separately, I can see posters explaining how it is possible to customise views to see just recent posts in forums (fora? fori?) that I'm interested in. I also used to like the ability to see recent posts irrespective of what forum they were posted to. It occasionally threw up topics or discussions I was interested in, but would not normally be actively browsing for. The "go into a pub and see what people are chatting about today" facility.

There are also some private forums - I'm curious to know why they are private?

I mean the "list of hidden forums available to join". I don't understand why they are hidden - seen as less popular? Little used? There are one or two I might be interested in joining but, as they are hidden, I don't know whether I do or not.

And, apologies, I've just found "View Latest: 1 Day" in the top left of the screen. This maybe highlights the fact that I am stupid or short-sighted, or that the appearance/indexing could be improved (as several people have suggested, in different ways).

Some bits I use...

Top Left there is "Quick Links", which drops down to "Latest Posts" and "Your Posts", among others which I use.

I have recently discovered the joys of the Downward Triangle next to the Spanner, next to the Post Reply button. Bookmarking means that you get a Notification, when there is a post in that Thread. (I haven't a clue what Subscribing does though  )

I don't know if the hidden stuff gets used much anymore, but then I don;t know if I am accessing them. I think they were set up for Privacy and\or Legal reasons for them not being Public, but it was a fair while ago.....

The hidden forums have a number of origins I think, some were to keep "niche" non-FF topics from taking over the main board for those who weren't interested (for example when we had a thriving online poker community at the height of the boom a decade or so ago) or for private competitions where non-entrants wouldn't be very interested.

Others came from attempts to ghettoise groups of troublemakers, or allow "controversial" topics to be discussed without being ruined by a handful of trolls who for some reason the admins/mods didn't have the balls to ban for good - that's well in the past now though, and I suspect those forums are just gathering dust.

There was also one for people who had met FISO's founder at golf days I believe, though that probably disappeared with the Pipsuite board (cue blank looks from post-2005 joiners...)

I used to like the feature where you could customise latest 1/7 days so that you only saw forums that you were interested in.

Bringing that back would be great. Apart from that its all good :D
It seems that the settings you entered when that feature was active are still maintained, ie I still don't see any posts from SDT or TFF in my latest feed and there's no way to re-enable them if I were to start playing those games. And you can't even log out to see those posts because you need to be logged in to use the latest posts function!

New posts uses the old filter settings (unless a new forum is added then this will also show)

Unread post shows all forums, but filters out the posts you have read.

I've never tried 'view latest : 1 day' so not sure what this shows!

It's a shame you can't edit the 'new posts' filter as since I set it up, then the ability to edit it was removed, I've started to play FPL as well as TFF.

Not a poll, but for those that have mentioned the previous ability to edit your Home Page (that is an incredible mess if you go through a couple of links to find it again), would you like the functionality restored or completely removed? As with all things, no idea what Rob can actually do or have time to do, but no reason not to provide him with a 'wish list'.

I never found the "home page" useful, as it was cluttered, didn't show that much and you could specify very few forums to include. Good concept if it could be made to work though.

More random question - the "FISO Injury Search". Doesn't seem to work at all, if that's the case for everyone why is it still there?

Another thing, the swear filter... always felt there's inconsistency there as it censors some pretty mild words and allows some stronger ones. Also some mildly insulting words, team nicknames, even names of banned users etc. were blocked due to their use in personal disputes.

My view is that the only things that really need to be censored are the F-word, C-word and the obvious racial slurs that hopefully nobody would attempt to use anyway... any mods agree/disagree?

Oh, and for the Class of '05... bring back "wazzock" as a substitute for the F-word

The injury table needs someone (or someones) with the time to update it daily, I haven't had that time for several years now. So yes, if there is no-one with the time to wander around various sites online to pick up the injury news and then update the table it might as well be removed.

Not had any dealings with the swear filter and have no idea what is and isn't blocked beyond the obvious 2 words - okay, I can think of a few others that you would hope that no-one would attempt to post in the first place - a review may be worthwhile.

I meant the "injury search" function next to "View Latest: 1 Day".

It just returns:
Search found 0 matches: injury injured suspended suspension ligament cruciate ankle concussion hamstring strain
Searched query: injury injured suspended suspension ligament cruciate ankle concussion hamstring strain
As far as I'm aware that's always been the case... my guess is it's searching for all these together, rather than any of them! Not sure who set it up and if it has ever worked...

As it hasn't been maintained and sounds like a lot of work to keep up to date it might be best to scrap it as I'm sure people now use other sites like

http://www.fantasyfootballscout.co.uk/f ... -injuries/

or

http://www.physioroom.com/news/english_ ... _table.php

Perhaps FISO needs a useful links page?

Personally I feel that there are a few more words than just those two that it would be nice to keep out of conversations.

I do like the word bustard although my favourite word is poo. :)

With a lot of words it's largely a question of context though, which no filter can ever make a call on (e.g. personal insult vs. humorous comment...)

Another idea -

perhaps we could have a 'back from the game' thread where people who have attended a game
can report on how the players performed, both for their team and the opposition? It's probably easier to gauge how well a player is performing in the flesh rather than on TV (either live or edited highlights) or by stats.

I'm also quite interested in finding out how many people attend live games and if more than one FISOer was at the same match.

My take on this much of which has already been said:

➡️ What works well within FISO?

Most of it. Lot's of folks willing to share knowledge and advice. Lot's of excellent side games. (thanks to all that run them) It's a place to come and discuss fantasy football and other games which in my real world everyone thinks is a bit naff.

➡️ What doesn't work well within FISO?

I think it's possible to miss out on team knowledge and expertise that gets hidden with the various sub forums. The menus are a bit messy and there is some redundant stuff that should go. People arguing rather than discussing is a pain.

➡️ What changes (if any) would you like to make to FISO?

I would like specialist club knowledge and injuries to be more prominent and used as the first port of call with other discussions regarding specialist games linked from there. Would definitely not want to see a dislike button.

➡️ What features have you seen on other forums that you would like to see here?

The only other forums I use are to do with science fiction, politics, music and certain computer games. Not much to learn from them. Apparently they have arguing as well but you don't really see it as the moderation is very harsh indeed.

➡️ What do you think of the homepage, search features, moving between forums?

Needs sorting. Must be a nightmare if you are new.

➡️ What forums are not within FISO that you would like to see?

Don't think we need any new ones.

➡️Anything from here you would like to see in FISO ( if possible) https://www.phpbb.com/customise/db/extensions-36

I'll pass on that one.

➡️ Anything else you would like to add

All in all I think FISO is excellent mainly because of it's participants. It needs tidying up and a bit of a makeover but nothing to radical.

Few more thoughts :

Think this may have been mentioned already but is it possible from within FISO to have calendar reminders as some side games have deadlines so if the forum could somehow generate notifications that would be good (I appreciate Google Calendar provides this as an external solution). Could be managed either by game organiser or individual poster.

How does the Quick Reply box work? It doesn't appear on all threads but should it? Could having to go via the full editor be putting people off of posting?

I think these questionnaire posts are good and I think they should continue with different topics - Why are you a lurker? Why do you play the fantasy games you do (positives for your game, negatives for others - bound to lead to some good discussions)? Etc...

There must be something we can do during the International breaks! We need a killer side game (Taca ran a score prediction one a while ago but it never reappeared) Perhaps a different TV thread for terrestrial programmes (a lot of TV posts are quite Netflix-centric) , or something silly like the 3 word story just to keep people visiting.

Definitely not a killer side game (and you did post on the thread) but some of us did this at the last break:

Maybe some people enjoy the time off. :)

I would think that Google Calender integration would be more straightforward(?) It's a great idea for the games where you need to do something each week.

Thank you very much - I actually didn't carry on with Goal Rush because I didn't think it was a concept with legs to be honest, but I'm pleased someone liked it. 3 word story was hilarious! I'd like to think that new things will come if people venture out, and we just attract new members that are more immediately aware that we are more than just a fantasy forum.

Well, in terms of TV surely anyone's welcome to start a thread or post about any show they like (or hate)... the way the "box set" culture has taken over in recent years has led to such series dominating the discussions, but there are still terrestrial programmes discussed on here, from drama series to Bake Off and beyond! If a show isn't being talked about it's probably because nobody's (admitting to) watching it, but you're still welcome to give it a mention...

I was thinking about digging out the 5 word story thread a while ago! Or going back even further, how about word association, or Fantasy FISO Posters  (The latter was Shrews' warm-up game before he launched FISODAS I think, so it did have a long term legacy, even if it caused chaos on the forum at the time!)
