Hive
Whats the best strategy when playing a 6 person game? Is it best to deploy your starting 12 troops on a spot, as close to a corner as possible and then start your way from there. Or do you put 1 troop on 12 different territories and start picking off the opponent? Not sure best strategy.

settings?
Best practice is usually to try to pick up the smaller bonuses areas early on, get a bigger deployment, get bigger areas. Depends on oppos too, some will continually try to break bonuses, others will allow you to develop if you allow them.

No spoils is good, bonuses or nothing. Unlimited is an absolute pain when it gets down to 3 of you, stacks bouncing around all over the place.stuboy wrote:No spoils, fog, unlimited reinforcements
So, try for the smaller bonus areas, get yourself a corner to work out from. Diplomacy with whoever the strongest player is on your main border. Try to keep 2s and 3s on terits to prevent being run through. Haven't played one on those settings for a while, usually make the last 3 but often have too many singles trying to keep control of too big an area. One of my biggest weaknesses, over-stretching. Winner often has strong bonuses but salts some of his deployment back out of sight (deploys singles so you don't know if 20 have gone on 1 terit or one on each of 20) to use late in the game.
It's a very long haul game!
