Well as Frank said, the players had no part in his dismissal, he played his cards and they didn’t work, maybe he was too young and maybe the job was too soon for him.

That sounds harsh, I mean who’s going to take the job needing to make up 12 points in 10 games, and have a better chance of taking them back up next season?

Pulis might still have a house in the city I guess ;)

Trying to think who’s done that before - Wolves and Sunderland I think? The former sacked your mate Mick McCarthy as a knee-jerk reaction without a plan, and it took them a fair while to recover.

Norwich got 2 promotions in the bounce.

Did Leeds? Wigan? I think it was relatively common for a number of years....

Cambridge United got 2 promotions on the bounce, would have been 3 (never done?) but they lost in the play offs.
Also got to FA Cup QFs in both those years (only time ever done for lower league team).

I don’t know, was a long time ago... but think Wolves went down three seasons running in the 1980s.

It appears the three teams to suffer back-to-back relegations from the Premier League (post-1992) to third tier are Swindon (93-95), Wolves again (12-14) and Sunderland (16-18). Luton had three consecutive relegations from the Championship to the Conference in the ‘00s.

Wasn't the Wolves double in early\mid 70s when Dougan and Richards quit?

Huddersfield may have been in the Northampton class; and I'd be far from shocked if Carlisle managed it from whichever season they topped the top flight in the 70s.

With my quizmasters hat on - between 1960 and 1969 Northampton went from divison 4 up to division 1 (as was) and back again - here's a c and p of the relevant stats thianks to wikipedia ...

Swansea did almost exactly the same from 1977-86. They actually managed two seasons in the top flight, finishing 6th the first time before starting their spectacular decline!

A nice freeroll caretaker job for someone next weekend. Who’s the best available Pep kryptonite?

Maybe it's partly to do with politics, and Mourinho didn't want to tow the line re the greedy league proposals? He could turn this to his advantage and say that was why he got the push.

Love him or loathe him, he is the only manager that’s beaten Guardiola in a final.

It’s the Carabao Cup final in six days. Bonkers timing.
