Lots of institutions use health and safety as a convenient cover for the real reason as they know the general public will always swallow it without exception. Real reason is often fear of litigation or just laziness.

Asked if the Pope was aware of the trend, a Vatican spokeswoman said: "I don't know if he's conscious of that. I imagine he has more important things to think about."

Decent blogs pointed out the insurance side when the story first came out so maybe idiotic-cant-be-arsed-to-research reporting should also laughed at.Mystery wrote:Nope it's definitely for the rubbish one as it's triggered by the US health systemcrispybits wrote:Not sure I shouldn't move the last two posts to the "good" thread now as she got laughed out of court in mere minutes

Against all odds Face Value has been remastered and "re-sleeved"
The man unfortunate enough to have been at his pop peak sporting a receding mullet and shoulder pad jackets, however, if you think he wasn't cool, then all of today's hipster kids look strangely like his beardy Genesis era image, around the mid 70s

I would guess the person responsible for kick starting this campaign probably smugly rode their bicycle home from work, with headphones on, listening to some tripe like Little Mix, One Direction, or Olly Murs and not realising the irony.

might as well take the words 'tackling in' out of the headline.
Improve coaching, don't ban tackling right up to the age of 18. It would kill the game off completely.

Touch rugby is a huge sport in Australia and New Zealand and hasn't done them any harm. It certainly hasn't killed the game off there.

Well Cricket, Swimming and Rugby League are popular as well - they've not killed the game off either. Different sports are able to co-exist.Surprised wrote:unc.si. wrote:http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/education-35696238

They're not trying to ban Rugby Union in Schools in Australia and New Zealand though.

Re: Modern life is rubbish - the evidence thread
Not being banned in UK either.
Touch rugby is still rugby and teaches awareness, speed. passing. It teaches kids to exploit and also to defend gaps in defence. They can learn to tackle later

Banned in schools though (effectively) which is much the same thing for most kids.Surprised wrote:Not being banned in UK either.

Re: Modern life is rubbish - the evidence thread
Touch is a very different game. You'd pick up maybe 20% of the skills needed to play RU.Surprised wrote:Not being banned in UK either.

RL is a lot closer to Union than touch is and there aren't many people who can make a successful transition.
Schools are the breeding ground for rugby players, Stop playing union in Schools and it will kill the game.
'They can learn to tackle later' - The proposal is to ban tackling in School Rugby until the age of 18. People are playing senior club rugby and even international rugby at that age. Its far too late to learn one of the most fundamental skills of the game.

Re: Modern life is rubbish - the evidence thread
Ok...banning tackling until 18 is a step too far. I thought it was only until they were 14 or so which I would fully support. This is only a proposal so can be amended.unc.si. wrote:Touch is a very different game. You'd pick up maybe 20% of the skills needed to play RU.Surprised wrote:Not being banned in UK either.

Very few state schools play rugby anyway and I'm not sure any change would be applicable to public schools
