Back from the celebrations.

Thanks for all the congrats. One of the best days I have had in a long time. Strange proud feeling really - my mum's mum is 100! She is still as sharp as a tack and it was hard to even get a word in with all of her Tuesday club members around her. Good job her 100th fell on a Tuesday, though, otherwise it would have been a pretty empty room!

Family that I haven't seen in many years have come up for the day from Chichester, and after the club closed where the party was held, we all went back to my sisters. We left at 9.45pm and my nan is still there as I type this, apparently!

I didn't get to ask the excellent question you suggested, Flyman. All far too much going on. She had some sad moments though, because she has lost two sons in her lifetime, but has spent most of the day with a really contented smile on her face - and you can't ask much more than that from a 100 year old!

She was absolutely fascinated by watching all her grandchildren and great grandchildren (17 all told I think) playing the Wii which she hadn't seen before. And btw, Tiger Woods is going to win The Masters, according to my nan, with Justin Rose putting in a good finish!

Thanks for your post, uncsimes. Great stuff. She really has seen massive, massive events in her lifetime. Far more than any of us will likely experience in ours.

I need to make more time to go and visit her in the future, which is one of the first things my nan said to me when I greeted her!

Anyway, I hope some of you will see members of your family meet this milestone, especially if they are in the excellent health my nan is. I reckon she has a few years left in her yet!

Just back from a little family get together in the pub. My arms ache, but she will insist on having the bumps every year! You honestly wouldn't know she was 102. She polished off a prawn cocktail starter with French stick, and then salmon and new potatoes, although she didn't think the green beans were cooked well enough. Always something to moan about!
