paisleypark

Post by moonlightdribbler »

Hello, chaps. I'm just dipping back in here to relay the very sad news that long time fisoer paisleypark passed away on Thursday (2nd April), after a short battle with cancer.

PP wasn't the most prolific poster, but he was a regular, over a long period, and I'm sure many on here will have interacted with him at some point. Particularly if you engaged in the various music threads over the years. I had the pleasure of doing so, and quickly learned that, not only what a big player he was in the music industry, but also that we almost certainly crossed paths due to me visiting his record shop (one of five) back in my late teens/early twenties. Even after conversing about a whole load of things on here including his involvement in Record Store Day and his old shops, it was ages before I twigged and connected him (and his name) to the Quirk's shops. Was great to have a little independent place to buy my records, pretty much on my doorstep.

I'll leave a few of tributes here:

And something from the archives:

I'll be raising a glass to Paul tonight.

Another good one gone.

I sadly never met paisleypark (I won't use his real name, you are all your usernames to me). In case you didn't know his username was a nod to Prince and Uncle Bob Paisley, combining his loves of music and football/Liverpool. Not a bad start.

I almost did meet him. Many moons ago he kindly got me a ticket for the Youth Cup Final at Anfield which I was going to with him, with me mixing it with a work trip. Alas, I came down with the flu so had to bail out.

If I remember correctly, he went with his son and they saw his beloved Reds lose but, hey, they won the second leg and Cup at Old Trafford so all's well that ends well.

Shame he never saw Liverpool lift the league title again thanks to fate but they almost did and they were European and World Champions too.

Rest In Peace (bar the tunes) PP.

Sad news.
Paisley was also a fairly keen cyclist. Lived quite near Brad Wiggins I think and remember him once saying that he’d seen Brad whilst out riding in the hills around West Lancs.
Seemed a genuinely nice guy and of course incredibly passionate about music.

I’ll be getting a few of my RSD purchases out later and playing them in memory of him.
RIP paisleypark

As others have said, one of the good guys.

I had no idea about his involvement with record shops and record store day.

Really sad news. Rest in peace :(

Liked this: Quirk came into his own delivering this memorable riposte to Prince’s decision to give away his latest album free with the Mail on Sunday: “The Artist Formerly Known as Prince should know that with behaviour like this he will soon be the Artist Formerly Available in Record Stores.”

RIP PP
