Snow watch - what's it doing in your area ?

Post by bluenosey »

I can't believe how much snow we've had in Solihull and it seems to be all over the Midlands. Too much snow even for Arthur Shelby!

No way I'm driving in this. The M40 has already been closed quite close to where I live and the other side - Bham Airport - has also been closed.

It does look Christmas Card breathtaking though.

Anyone else been hit hard ? I gather Wales has had it bad too.

You got the snow the Northwest was supposed to get. Always hits an area hard when not used to it.

Stay in, grab a brew and watch the footy.

Going back to Inverness tonight, very cold just now! Had quite a bit of snow the last couple of days, nothing we're not used to though.

I imagine the rush hour commute tomorrow will be pretty bad but yes, will take your "brew and footy" advice :D Have a safe journey back to Inverness :)

They're used to it up there, so main roads will be well gritted?

I remember seeing Snow Ploughs on the pavement in Aberdeen. They thought I was mad as I stared at it for ages

I think the local motorways are down to one lane but at least they are moving. The smaller and side roads are the problem though. Plus you will always get some idiot haring along like it's a dry sunny day ! As Latic says, best to stay put.

They do a good job keeping main routes like the A9 & A96 open.

Gorgeous here in Cumbria. The snow covered top of Skiddaw is beautifully illuminated by sunshine as I gaze upon it through the window of my house which is a tad warmer.

Enjoy your snowball fights southerners! I'm happy here.

Trying to gauge snowfall in other areas these days is very difficult for me since we went metric. I still can't visualise these new fangled measurements. :?

Well over six inches here with some serious drifts. Still snowing as well.

Didn't get to work on Friday, won't bother trying tomorrow. Even Tuesday is at risk. (Shropshire)

Still not had any proper snow at ground level.

Had a fantastic day on the fells on Monday though. Lots of snow up there, gorgeous sunshine and only a little wind(chill).

First time in a while that we have had a significant covering of snow for a full week.

I love it but Mrs Spiny is not so keen. Her journey took a full 20 minutes this morning and that was just getting to the car and uncovering it.

Go high, get snow!
Looking back from the Old Man Of Coniston last monday (apologies for Faye's grumpy look in the first pic - she loves it up there really!)

Opened the curtains this morning to our first covering of snow this winter!

Went out in the car and the localised snow was gone after a few miles but the conditions were treacherous with ice (saw the remnants of 4 accidents) and closed roads.

Good job we don't have Premier league football anywhere near here - presume there is no chance of any cancellations elsewhere??
