copy of admin's post from last season's thread

This thread is intended as a one-stop announcement shop for fantasy football managers to catch up with all official, confirmed news and updates on player absences for the English Premier League. Types of absences include:

* Injury
* Suspension
* Personal Leave
* International Duty
* Ineligible to play against parent club
* Loan to a non-Premiership club
* Retirement from Football

No discussion allowed - just news items, with links if at all possible.
Do not reply to individual posts except to make corrections or post further salient details/links.
You should expect posts breaking these rules to be binned without warning. There is a separate thread for gossip and discussion on player absences. Please post all injury, suspension, etc. discussion and gossip there.

FISO's injury (and other absence) table can be found here: http://www.fiso.co.uk/injurytable.php" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
All FISO members are encouraged to add any missing table entries, for moderator approval. Please include links if at all possible. The more people can do this, the better and more up-to-date the table will be.

FFS' table is also good and can be found here: http://www.fantasyfootballscout.co.uk/f ... -injuries/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Physioroom is also worth checking: http://www.physioroom.com/news/english_ ... _table.php" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Between the three of these, you can pretty much guarantee all absences will be covered, allthough they will likely disagreee on return dates.

Jan Vertonghen - ankle ligament

"He's going to be most likely out of training for two to three weeks," Spurs boss Andre Villas-Boas said. "Hopefully we can have him back sooner."

"Jan is just about on the deadline for the first game of the season," Villas-Boas said. "Hopefully we can see a bigger recovery time with him."

Rendered irrelevant by the fact he got injured and will be out until after the early September international break.

Early news on Liverpool injuries

Rodgers said: "Kolo Toure, we need to assess it. His groin opened up a wee bit. He overstretched his groin and it doesn't look so good, to be honest."

"Cissokho was devastated. He shouldn't be too long. He's got a knock in his ankle. He was distraught to come off in his first start here."

"Joe Allen may well be a hamstring so we'll have a look at that."

On the positive side...

re Skrtel : "Yes, he will be fine. Tonight was too soon for him but he's been back training for a few days."

Brendan Rodgers has delivered a positive assessment of the groin injury Kolo Toure sustained during Liverpool's 4-2 victory over Notts County in the Capital One Cup on Tuesday night.

However, addressing reporters gathered at Melwood today, the boss insisted Toure's injury is not as bad as first thought.

The defender will now be assessed over the coming days to establish if he can feature in Sunday's clash against Manchester United.

"His injury is nowhere near as bad as what we thought," said the manager. "We'll just assess that over the next 24/48 hours.

"I think we were all thinking that he might be out for longer after the game, but he's made an excellent recovery. The diagnosis isn't anywhere near as bad as we thought, so we'll see how he is for this weekend.

"If it's not this weekend, then we would think that after the international break he will not be too far away."

LFC update on Glen Johnson

Liverpool have confirmed that Glen Johnson suffered a high ankle sprain.

After being examined by the club's medical staff at Melwood, Johnson is required to rest his ankle this week.

A further review will then take place to check stability and decide on further management.

Therefore, Liverpool have not put a timeframe on Johnson's return to fitness at this stage.

(A cynic might suggest this is a good excuse to miss the Internationals and then come straight back. Would he be right???)

Andy Carroll to see a specialist after new injury.

Andy Carroll suffered an injury to his right foot during his return to full training today.
Although it is in the same part of his foot as his previous injury, it is a new injury and therefore there will be no prognosis until he has seen a specialist.
whufc.com will provide a further update when the relevant information is available.

David Silva adds to Manchester City injury problems for trip to Stoke

David Silva has suffered a slight thigh injury while on World Cup duty with Spain that could rule him out of Manchester City's trip to Stoke City on Saturday.

While City do not believe the problem is serious, the midfielder joins Matija Nastasic, Micah Richards, Vincent Kompany and Martín Demichelis as a player who has been injured this season. Silva has returned to the club to be assessed by medical staff.

Winger Pablo Hernandez will miss Swansea's first group game in the Europa League at his former club Valencia on Thursday. The Spaniard has been ruled out with a hamstring strain and will also miss Sunday's Premier League match at Crystal Palace.

But the Swans striker Wilfried Bony will be fit to play in Valencia. He suffered a rib injury during the 2-2 draw against Liverpool in the Premier League clash at the Liberty Stadium.

Coutinho shoulder injury rules Brazilian out until late October

Philippe Coutinho, the Liverpool midfielder, could miss up to five Premier League games after the club revealed that the Brazilian requires "surgical stabilisation" on a shoulder injury he picked up during Monday's 2-2 draw with Swansea City.
