SPFL

Post by liquidfootball2 »

Just read an article entitled

'SPFL preview: Steven Gerrard's new-look Rangers, resurgent Aberdeen and ambitious Hibs - is it Celtic's to lose?'

In which the commentator then rightly concluded its still a massively one team league with a huge imbalance in finances and resources.

Winning such a league, and 'Brenda' Rodgers' Celtic should dominate all before them, winning for them is no achievement whatsoever, turn up or hardly try and winning is still unavoidable.

There are three (and maybe four) teams competing for second place with everybody else capable of finishing as high as third or as low as relegated. This league is consistently unpredictable below who will win, and they've probably already started inscribing their name on the trophy.

Brendan Rodgers is starting to show signs of frustration with what he can achieve at Celtic, with his team way out in front of domestic rivals but a relative minnow in the European game.

The sheer amount of money they have in reserve and earn every season in comparison to other SPFL teams means Celtic should comfortably win every single domestic competition they enter - but they aren't invincible. Well, they were, going 69 games unbeaten until losing to Hearts in December 2017.

Its just probably why everyone in England recognises their achievements as completely meaningless and why despite the bookies usually having the Celtic manager in the running for jobs down south none of the clubs seriously consider him.

Neill Lennon went to nearly bankrupt second tier side Bolton Wanderers where he understandably struggled, ending up going back up north.

Tierney has been touted up there saying a number of prem clubs are interested, Everton constantly mentioned when I know for a fact they're not remotely interested atm.

Its a different world and Celtic are trapped in it. How can they ever progress?

Long term I think they'll have to have a system where they play domestically August to February, and the top 4 qualify into an Atlantic League with the Dutch and Belgian clubs to play for automatic CL places March to May, because the economies of those countries individually will never match the big 5 or 6.

Rangers are slowly catching up. Their board have backed Gerard. Obviously it will be Celtic by a country mile but the battle for second is usually worth keeping an eye on. Between Aberdeen and Rangers really although the two Edinburgh clubs may be contenders.

It seems ludicrous that any future European super league would completely put aside one of the recent European heavyweights, or even teams who regularly reach the latter stages of the UEFA champions league, or even teams that sometimes dominate the group phases, just to accommodate any team who reasonably often, even fail to make the initial group stages despite virtual automatic entry to the qualifying rounds, and who also participate in one of Europe's very much lesser leagues.

In Britain, both the BBC and other sports channels are national, and therefore obliged to give a certain weighting and coverage to Scotland and its football teams, we hear, are aware and know far more about their fortunes than people from anywhere else in Europe.

The Scottish league won't even be on the radar for the vast majority of European football fans, if it is, it would be far more likely to be recognised as a minor league right on the fringes, and by a minority of more knowledgeable enthusiasts as a one team minor league right on the fringes.

Will any of the aforementioned European teams be left out of any future European super league in favour of a team from such a minor league with such a non existent recent playing record in Europe?

The truth is they won't even be thought about, and the answer is definitely no.
